How often should this filter be replaced, if in use roughly four to five months out of each year?

Hi Laura, Normally we see the life span being 3 years or so. To determine when it is time to replace your DE grid you will want to note your initial clean starting PSI from your pressure gauge, when you install your new clean DE grid. You will know it is time to replace your grid when after you clean your grid the pressure does not drop below 10 PSI above your initial clean starting PSI. For example if the initial clean pressure reading is 10 PSI and 3 years from now you clean your grid and it does not drop below 20 PSI then it is time to replace your grid.

I am having a problem holding pressure in my filter. Normally start up is 8 psi. The psi won't reach 5 psi. I cleaned my filter about a month ago and saw a crack on top of the filter. Would this cause the pump not to build up pressure in the tank?

If you have damage, a crack or leak to the filter housing, this can absolutely cause the filter to not hold pressure.

Does modular refer to the ability to use either to 60 or the 72 with the setup? If so, what factors determine the use of either the 60 vs 72?
...and, if I'm noticing my returns are blowing DE into the pool intermittently, as in 5 minutes it blows clean, and then 5 minutes dirty, and so on. Have you noticed that to be indicative of something specific orrrrrr.....??
Thanks.

Hi, Koala. You can use either the 60 or 72 replacement module in the same tank. DE blowing back into the pool could be signs of a bad module, o-ring, or air bleed assembly.

I've noticed that happening to me before. I found the source of the problem was the backwash gaskets did not seat correctly when I turn the back wash off. I just had to reopen the backwash and reclose it. Your problem may be the seating of your O-Ring, if you see the Filter pressure is not at normal running levels. Good luck with your seatings on both.

For my Sta-Rite S7MD60 Lower Tank Shell:
1) Do the Baffle Screws 4ea (PN 37027-7028) come with the Relalcement Module (PN 25023-0160S)?
