Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
Reply
Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
Reply
The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

Can I use this Raypak heater (266,000 BTU's) with my existing 3/4" gas line.
I am replacing my old Teledyne Laars 175,000 BTU heater that has worked well with 3/4" gas line.
Reply
Hi Ella, As long as the distance of gas line from your gas valve to the heater did not exceed 15' than a 3/4" gas line would be fine for the Raypak 266K BTU. If your distance is longer than 15' then email me back with the details and I can make a reccomendation.

What is the high wind stack that goes with this heater? Is it PART# 6238-125 (009835)?

Hi Michael, The Raypak High Wind Stack 266/267 (009835) would be the correct item.

How far must the Raypak 266000 BTU Heater be from a building. No openings doors, vents or windows near the heater. I assume 6 inches would be OK?

Hi William, A clearance of 6" from the building is okay. For additional info you can review the Raypak Owners/Instructions Manual.

Does this machine come with a regulator? Or do you have to purchase that separately?
Reply
The heater does come with a gas valve which is inside the heater, however the regulator that is within the gas line is not supplied with the heater that would be supplied by the gas company.

I have a thirteen year old 16x 32 ft in ground pool, 15,000 gallons. We need to replace our RayPac 2100 Digital heater. What would be the recommended replacement heater?
Reply
Hello, Do you know what size BTU heater you are replacing? You will want to replace it with the same BTU saize unless you are having new gas lines installed.

I purchased a Raypak 266000 NG ELE from you on 7/14/15 (installed 10/15). It is dripping water out of the tubing above the burners, saturating the unit with salt water. Is less than 2 years the life expectancy of this unit?

Usually, the units last longer. These are both packaged and stocked directly from Raypak who is one of the leading manufacturers of pool heaters. There are a number of variables that can cause these parts to go bad including chemistry that was not balanced.

Hello,
We are installing an inground hot tub. The pool installer plans to use this heater. I will have a new gas service installed just for the heater. My question is, the drawings they supplied show this unit mounted INSIDE my new pump house. Ive never seen a pool heater mounted inside, they say that's the only way they have ever installed them. Ideas?

My current heater (Jandy Lxi 400k BTU) burned out the heater box after 9 yrs. The original install has only a 1.25 in gas supply pipe in a 130-140 ft run.
Is that too small for a 400k BTU unit?
Is there a problem with having too big a heater for the gas available?
What size will work?
Thanks,
David - Dallas

Hello, the maximum length of piping that you can have with this unit using natural gas is 95 feet.

Want to make certain this is the correct unit to replace an old Raypak P-R265B for a salt water pool. From the Raypak document archives, looks like the current unit is 265k BTU and that the 266K would be a suitable replacement. Just want to make sure before placing the order.
Reply
Ken, Yes, Raypak heater 014939 is the replacement for your 265k BTU unit and is also compatible with salt pools.

do I need to install a by-pass valve with this heater?
Reply
Hi. Yes, I would recommend installing a manual bypass. It will allow you to regulate the water flow for maximum efficiency, and service the heater while running your pool.

When installing the cupro nickel heater with a salt pool, is a check valve needed? I don't have a lot of room with the way the pool installer hooked the equipment up. I think it will be extremely difficult to add one.

Hi, Dave. Yes, a Check Valve is still required.

Hi George, these carry a Ray Pak 1 year warranty and must be installed by a licensed technician in order to guarantee the warranty.

Looking to replace my 13 year old Raypak 288 BTU natural gas heater. The pool is salt water. Looks like the replacement might be the P-R266A EN X (014939). Water continually runs through our heater regardless of if the pool is on or off. The dynode is on the inlet side of the water heater. Just wanted to confirm that the 266 BTU is the appropriate size before I place the order because we can't find the 288. Thank you!
Reply
If it was me I would jump up to the 336 BTU. It will just heat your swimming pool faster then your current 288 BTU. If you jump down to a 266 BTU it will heat your pool slower. I do not know the full story. Maybe you are already happy with the way your heater was performing and are ok with a drop in BTU.
