I am replacing my old Sta-Rite filter, what else besides the quad filter do I need to buy?

The only piece of equipment necessary for installation is the purchase of a valve. The valve options for the Quad D.E. Filter are listed by port size, measure your pipes to determine the best fit for you. 261173 - 1.5" Threaded Multiport Valve 261055 - 2" Threaded Multiport Valve

I want to replace a DE grid filter (has old push-pull valve) with a Pentair Quad 60 DE filter and include a multiport backwash. I am handy (installed a replacement pump before with challenging pvc runs and turns). Assuming the instructions are clear and I have all easy to connect connectors (whisperflo-intelliflo??) is this a DIY project? I live in mountains and installation charges are outrageous due to travel.

Hello Ron - The installation of the filter is not difficult. If you can cut and glue pipe, you can install this filter.

I have 20x40 pool, 30,000 gallon. What size filter do I need?
Reply
I would suggest the Quad DE 80 Filter for your sized pool.

I have a 16x36 pool, It's a NSF 60 now and the upper have is cracked and needs to be either fixed or replace the whole filter. Is that sufficient for my size or should I get a bigger filter?
Reply
Yes, as far as square footage needed for filtration for this size pool, it is plenty. Just be sure that based on the feet of head at your pool and the gallons per minute rating on the pump, that they are compatible with this filter.

I currently have a Nautilus N-36 DE Filter. Which Pentair filter would I replace it with. Thanks, Donna

Hi Donna, You can replace it with the Pentair FNS Plus 36 Sq Ft Filter w/o Valve (180007).

I have a Hayward super pump 1.5 HP Is that compatible with the Pentair FNS Plus DE 36 sq ft without valve? Thanks, Donna

Hi Donna, I would recommend going to the Pentair FNS Plus 48 sq ft D.E. Filter w/o Valve (180008) with a 1.5 HP Super Pump.

I have the Quad/ DE Filter 60. I need to open the drain plug but it doesn't seem to give easily and I don't want to break it. Are there any instructions and cautions I need to know. ie does it open clockwise or CC
Reply
Unfortunately there are no instructions to loosen the drain plug for this filter. The end should be able to use a wrench or ratchet to loosen as well. It is a standard left turn to loosen. If it breaks then it is likely due to the parts being brittle from sun or chemicals.

I have a very old Sta-Rite DES36 filter. I am starting to have problems getting part. I am wondering if a Pentair FNS48 is to much. I have a 1 or 1.5 horsepower pump.
Reply
Hi, The FNS Plus 48-180008is not too much, a bigger filter is always better for longevity.

IS THE HEIGHT OF VERTICAL CLEARANCE HOW TALL THE FILTER IS OR HOW MUCH ROOM IS NEEDED TO REMOVE TO THE TOP OF THE FILTER TO CLEAN AND SERVICE?
Reply
Hi David, The vertical clearance is the height required to remove cover and filter elements.

I have an old American Products Titan model # 56623200 Filter area is 60 sq ft w/o slurry and 150 Flow Rate. Circular in 36 and vertical in 55. The bottom housing has burst and I need to replace the entire unit. Will this Pentair unit work or can you recommend what to buy to replace the entire unit?
Reply
Hi Mitch, This Pentair Quad Cartridge / DE Filter 60 or the FNS Plus 60 (180009) can be used as a replacement for your current Titan filter.

I have a new tristar pool pump with a 8 year old tr60 pool filter that has new sand. Getting poor filtration. Thinking of buying a quad cartridge de 60. What do you think?
Reply
Hi Omer, The Pentair Quad Cartridge 60 is a good replacement for the TR60 sand filter.

I have a Starite filter and system around 18 years old. Large black tank with tall narrow filter and one very large filter surrounding the smaller filter. Pressure stick in the middle of both filters. I appears I can just unscrew it and add this Pentair filter to the system. I can send a picture if you like.
My question is do I need new valves when I already have them. It appears an easy changeout. 1.5 hp pump. Pool size is 16000 gal. 12 x 15 pool.
Thanks James 458-215-9607

Good morning James, This may work but you may have to change up the plumbing a little.

Looking to replace my Hayward Pro Grid DE filter with a Pentair cartridge DE filter. Not a big fan of backwash valves and would prefer not to install one if I don't have to. Currently use a Hayward slide valve that requires periodic maintenance to prevent it from leaking. Can I just plumb the filter without a a backwash valve and simply remove the cartridges and clean them individually when they need to be cleaned?
Thanks.

Good afternoon Paul, It is possible but getting the D.E out of the tank will be hard. There is a drain plug at the bottom but could be done. It would be like doing an annual breakdown every time you clean your filter.

I have a 36000 gallon pool with a Pentair Intelliflo pump. Is the 80 or 100 sq ft filter the better choice...and why?
Reply
Hi, The Quad 80 or 100 will be better because it has a higher filtration capacity which will allow you to go longer between filter cleans and lower head pressure maximizing water flow.

I am limited to a 1hp. 1 speed pump withe 1.5" pipe for my in ground pool. Would there be any point in my buying a back flush valve for this filter as my flow rate is way below what they call for?
Reply
For this filter to operate properly you would need a backwash valve and for your set up if using the Quad DE Filter we do suggest a backwash valve.
Reply
Is this an in ground filter and will it be sufficient for a 20 x 40 pool?
Reply
Hi. This filter is for an inground pool and will be sufficient for a 20'x40' pool. You'll have to be sure that your pump flow rate does not exceed 120 GPM.

I recently bought all new filters and they ruptured after two weeks. The starting psi is 10 and rises to 11. I don't understand why the filters would rupture at such a low pressure.
My setup is simple. Pump 3/4hp > Pentair 261152 multiport > Quad 60 filter (top inlet) > filtration > Quad 60 filter (bottom outlet) > pool.
Do not backwash ever and I added 6lbs of DE when new filters are added.

There may be a number of reasons that these could have ruptured prematurely. Just as an example, some systems may have pressure fluctuations due to a number of system settings which can cause damage to filters. We recommend getting with the retailer that you purchased them through and run a warranty claim to see if your instance would be covered.

I have limited space. What are the dimensions of the 60 filter?
Reply
The Quad DE 60 Filter measures 21.5" in diameter and requires 62" of vertical clearance so you can remove the cartridges for cleaning.
Reply
Do I need need to use a hi flow valve with this filter or can I can I plumb straight into it and remove the filters to clean
Reply
Hi. A Multi-Port or Slide valve is not required, you can plumb the filter directly so that you can remove and clean off like a traditional cartridge.

I was about to set this up with a salt water system and noticed in big print for fresh water only! Guessing I should get another filter. Or is there another way?
Reply
Hi, Ben. Your saltwater pool is also considered a freshwater pool. You're just adding salt to generate chlorine. This filter is okay to use with saltwater pools.

I am interested in replacing my Hayward 4800 de filter with the Pentair Quad Cartridge / DE Filter 60. Wil my Hayward backflush valve fit on this?
Reply
Hi, John. Your existing Hayward valve will not be compatible with this Pentair Quad Filter. You will need to use a Pentair valve.

Someone told me that i needed to order a larger filter if I was going with the Pentair Quad. I currently have a 60, so they said I needed an 80 quad. I think my pool is 10,000 gallons. Can I use a 60 ?
Reply
Allen, the Pentair Pool Products Pentair Quad Cartridge / DE Filter 60, will be sufficient for your 10,000 gallon pool. You can go with the Pentair Quad Cartridge / DE Filter 80 - 188593, but the 60 is ample. The 80 has a higher filtration capacity which will allow you to go longer between filter cleans and lower head pressure maximizing water flow. You can read more about the advantages of over-sizing your filter in our blog post, "Can a Filter Be Too Oversized?".

I am looking into replacing an old Nautilus FRP model fns48. Will this model fit or will I need to completely replumb with new valves?
Reply
Hi, Craig. You will need to replumb this filter and get a new valve if you want to replace your existing filter with this unit.
