I currently have a Jacuzzi Earthworks EW100 DE filter. Parts are becoming VERY expensive, if even available, so I'm thinking of replacing it. This Pentair looks very similar in form, fit, and function, but I don't have specs for the EW100 to compare. I do know the EW100 is 45 sq ft of filter with 90 GPM (from the label), and it has done a good job on our approx 35,000 gal built-in.
Would the Pentair 4048 would be a good replacement for the EW100?
Any other thoughts you'd like to chime in with?

Hi Dan, The Pentair Filter - 4000 Series SMBW4048 D.E Filter 48 Sq. Ft. W/ Valve will be very close to the one you currently have. This current Pentair is a 48 sq ft and rated for 94 GPM.

Is this system quieter than my 15 year old Pyrex 4000 series DE 48 lb

Hi, Filtration systems does not have any moving parts so whatever sound that comes from the filter will be the sound of water flowing through the unit.

Hello Ernie, It is very likely that one of your grids are damaged and is in need of replacement. It is also possible that your manifold, that the grids fit into, is damaged. You can view the Purex 4000 Series Molded D.E. Parts list by clicking on the link. The available parts are listed below the diagram and can be ordered directly off of our website. How to remove the bottom monifold to clean the dirt at the bottom inside of SMBW 4048?. I tried very hard to pull the manifold, but it did not moved at all. Maybe there is a screw to remove or a twisting motion to be done, or anything else?
Reply
Hi, Joe. Before the Bottom Manifold can be removed, the center rod will first have to be removed.

I have a SMBW 4048 pentair filter and the rotary valve on the bottom is extremely hard to open and close. Is this replaceable or would it be better to order a new one?
Thanks

Hi Ted, this will depend on the model multiport valve that is there. Could you send us a few photos of it or provide the model number? To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos or quickest provide this information using our live online chat feature. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation.

This is the filter. I replaced the valve before and the gasket was a real tight fit and I'm not sure the gasket was moved during the installation. It was very hard to get the valve and the gasket to push down in the hole of the filter.
Hello, i have a Purex 4000 SM filter, i only have an item number on the bottom of the tank which is 197126. I would like to know how much DE should i add to my filter on a complete wash. Thank you!

Hello Harma, unfortunately, we cannot confirm the sq. ft. model that you have based on the base part number however if you measure the height of the unit and use this datasheet then you will be able to confirm the amount of D.E. the filter will need total.
