When should I change the sand in my filter?
Reply
You should change the sand in your filter every 5-7 years. You can generally tell that it is time if your pool water is not as clear as it normally is or when you notice the interval between backwashes is shorter. You can use > this guide to walk you through it.

could you please send me a top view of the handle showing dial settings mine has worn out and cant read setting positions? Thanks in advance.

What is the model number for the multiport valve that comes with this?
Reply
Charles, The Pentair 262506 multiport valve comes with the Pentair Teagelus TA60D filter.

Can you get the clear site glass for 6way valves
Reply
Hi Curtis, Yes we do carry the Sight Glass For the Pentair Tagelus 6 Way Valve.
Reply
On the pentair TA 60 tagelus does it matter which way the openings in the fingers face. I changed the sand and when I backed washed half a bag of sand came out.. Thank you
Reply
Hi Mark, The laterals within your filter should be positioned as shown in this guide here on How to Replace Pool Filter Laterals. You will want to inspect that there are no cracks in any of your laterals and yes the openings on the laterals should be faced up.

after i backwash , water comes out when i put it in the filter slot ?? a friend said my spider gasket was bad ??
Reply
Bill- That is correct, it would be a spider gasket issue. If you can find the model of the valve we can get you the right spider gasket.

Ta60d bought 1999 top mount ,clamp on . I think the diverter is 262506? How can I confirm?
Reply
Hi Bill, Yes the Pentair 262506 Valve is the correct replacement valve for tagelus filter which uses the clamp on valve.

Is there a difference between a TA 60 and a TA 60D, if there is what is it
Reply
Hi Wayne, The TA60 is called the Tagelus and the TA60D is called the Tagelus Deluxe. From what I can tell the only difference between the two filters is the valve as the TA60 used a screw on valve and the TA60D uses a clamp on valve. All of the internal components of the filter are the same.

There are threads on the inside and outside of the ports. What type of connector would you use for the outside threads?
Reply
Hi Chuck, The outside thread is used for union hose included with the Pentair Tagelus & Pump System. If you do not have the matching pump you will have to use the Tapered Hose Adapter (711066) with clamps.

I have a pacfab tagelus TA60/60D pool filter system and it is leaking water around the topclamp of the fiberglass tank . I tried to tighten the clamp screws but this did not stop the leak. What parts do I need to stop this leak?
Reply
Hi Dean, You will probably need to replace the Valve Body O-ring (350) and or the Valve Adapter O-ring (154494).

I would like to know is there a overflow value on the TA-60 D so that my pool will not overflow?
Reply
Hello Dio - There is not an overflow valve on the TA-60D. If the water level rises you can put the multiport valve in the waste position and run the system to drain water from the pool.
Reply
We have a tangelos ta 40. The scewscrews to the multi port valve at not tightening down. The wire springs have come out. What can we do?
Reply
Hi, I would recommend replacing the entire valve, rebuilding it can cost just as much.

Can you use the ZeoSand as an alternative for this filter?

Just purchased the TA 60D, and need to replace my 3/4 hp pump as well. Have been told I need a 1.5 hp pump for this filter. Is this true, or can I go lower hp? I have an inground pool, about 18,000 gallons, with pump running 12 hours a day. I look forward to your reply, and thanks in advance. Craig
Reply
Hi Craig, You do not necessarily need a 1.5 hp pump with this filter, a 3/4 hp pump can also be used depending on the flow rate. You can review our How To: Size a Pool Pump guide for information that can assist you with matching the correct size pump for your pool.

Hi,
I would like to order this product without the 6 Way Valve. Is that possible?
Thanks,
Reply
You might be able to somewhere else, but unfortunately, we don't offer the Tagelus without the top valve.
Reply
would 1 hp. power pump motor be capable of operating this filter.
Reply
It's going to depend on the flow rate. That filter is able to handle 60 gpm. I would need to know the total resistance, the distance from your pump to the main drain, to figure out the flow rate to see if your pump will work with that filter.

my ta-60/60d 7 positions, is this a 6way valve ?
Reply
Hello Walt, Some have 6 and one that has 7 positions which is 1 1/2" Top Mount Valve Flanged (262506) - 4600-2506. depending on what your looking for please go to parts to see if this is your correct filter and what size plumbing do you have.

The hand lever that turns the filter positions broke off,my valves are working fine I just need the top portion only is it replaceable like this
Reply
Hi. The Top Valve Assembly - 272531 will fit the OEM valve that comes with the filter. If you do not have the original valve you will need to provide the valve model number so that we can locate the correct top valve assembly.

My current filter is an older (not sure how old.....) Tagelus Deluxe TA-60D. According to the label on my filter, it takes 250 lbs of #20 silica sand. The specs on the current model advertised on your website says it takes 325 lbs. That's a pretty big difference. Any explanation?
Reply
Hi RK, I'm not sure of why the difference but I would stick to the amount of sand listed on your label.
Reply
The safety collar will not fit correctly after we changed the sand Any ideas? It will not meet and seems to have a gap around the back side

MY, i would recommend making sure that the lateral assembly is properly seated inside of the tank. That may be your issue.

The Pentair TA 60D Filter literature says it comes with a 1 1/2" or 2" Valve.
I would like to know what the Model with the 2" Valve costs.
Thank You,

Hi, Dennis. The Pentair Filter TA-60D(2) - 145385 is the model with the 2" valve.

I have a Pentair Sand dollar SD60. It has developed a small pin hole leak in the seam. This filter is 6 years old. This is my second sand dollar filter in 22 years. This first one only had to be change out due to the pool crew dropped it and broke the shell while changing out the sand.. I have had great success with this type of filter. I was thinking about up grading to th Pentair Tagelus TA 60 If I did should I expect a cleaner pool?
Reply
Hi, Alex. The TA-60D filter has a higher filtration surface area than the SD60 filter which will hold more debris allowing you backwash less. Your pool can stay cleaner longer.

How can I tell if I have Tagelus 60 or 60D. The top vlave has 7 positions.
On the lable it also says Purex Triton

Hi, John. The D models has a clamp style valve all other model has a threaded style valve.

Which side of the MP valve does the pump connect? Is it reversible? My pump is on the right side and I done want ro reconfigure the plumbing.

Hi, Joe P. The pump port on the valve is perpendicular to the Waste and Return ports.

What is the difference between this filter (TA-60D) and the Hayward top mount 24" S244T. Filtration areas and flow rates appear similar but Pentair is priced a $100 more
Reply
Mark, there is not much of a difference between the TA-60D and the S244T other than the company that makes them. Like you pointed out they have a near identical flow rate and filtration area.

I am currently in the process of changing out my 24yr old pentair ta60 tank. I'm sticking with Pentair and NOT purchasing the Hayward brand. Most of the research I've done on the Hayward shows that the plastic tank splits at a seam just under the multi port valve after only a few years of use. Hope this helps.
Reply
Good choice! I have a two-year-old Hayward that is split exactly where you mentioned. Second tank with the same problem. I will be installing a Pentair TA-60D.

Do you have used Pentair sand filters Part no. 145241. If so what is the cost. Do the new ones come with sand or is that separate.

Hi, Nancy. We do not sell any used sand filters. The sand is not included with any filters.

I have a TA-60/60D (see pics). The return line sprung a leak right where the 1-1/2" coupling threaded into the valve. When trying to remove the coupling to repair, it snapped and now i cannot get the threaded male portion out of the valve. I thought I could just put a 2" Female Thread onto the outside of the valve but found out it is a non-typical thread pattern. What kind of adaptor or thread pattern can I use to get from the outer threaded portion back to 2" PVC Pipe?
Reply
What thread pattern is used on the outside of a Pentair Tagelus TA-60/60D? my PVC coupling snapped and the male thread cannot be extracted from the valve. I was hoping to put the 2" threaded coupling over the valve and call it good. I found that it is not a standard pipe thread. How do I get from this 2" thread to a PVC pipe on the Return Port?

I have a Pentair Tagelus TA 60D w/6way valve and we are going to change out the sand in it. I was looking at the ZeoSand alternative to regular pool sand, and it says that 50 lb. of ZeoSand is equivalent to 100 lb. of regular pool sand. My filter calls for 325 lb. of regular sand, but if I use ZeoSand, how much do I need to use? Is it half of the normal 325 lb (163 lb.)?
Reply
Hi, Karen. You will need to use 163 lbs of Zeo Sand for your model sand filter.

I have a 30,000 gallon in-ground vinyl pool with a salt system and a variable speed Pentair Intelliflow VS-AU pump with 1 1/2" plumbing to/from the pool. I currently have a Hayward DE filter tank, but it seems to slowly leak DE back into the pool. I would like to replace the DE filter with a sand filter. I am not sure if the Pentair TA-60D model is adequate for proper cleaning, or if I need the larger model TA-100D (which I think may be overkill). Recommendations?

This is the filter you want.

I have a 15,000 gallon inground pool. Is the Tagelus TA-60D the right size filter? Thanks

Hi, Mark. This filter can be used with a 15,000 gallon pool. The flow rate of your pump cannot exceed 60 GPM. Check out our How To Size a Pool Filter guide.

I have what I believe is a TA-60D filter was given to me. The tag on the side of the filter is P/N 145242. The top valve is P/N 272523 which is 6 position 1-1/2 fitting valve. Can I use 262506(2) 2" top valve on the TA-60D. I also notice that the down pipe on the lateral is scratched up where it is inserted into the valve, it looks like from sand. Is this crucial to a good fit so that no sand is pushed back into the pool. if photos are needed i will provide. Thank you.
Reply
HI Michael, Yes the 26-2506 Valve can be used as a replacement for the 272523 Valve or the Generic PL0700 Valve can be used. If they are just surface scratches that are minimal and not huge grooves then I would start off by just replacing the valve.

My pool is 25k gallon gunite. Can I upgrade to a 2" Multi Valve, my pump is a 2hp 2 speed?
Reply
If you have the TA60 yes, you can. If you have a different filter, please provide the model name or provide an image of the label on the filter, we will check the valve options. The majority of filters offer 1.5 or 2.0" valve options.

I have an old filter from Pac-Fab it looks like a TA-60D. I have a 45,000 gallon pool. Is this big enough? Also does your filter for $500 come with laterals and valve? I attached pics of my old one. Let me know what to order from you guys. thanks
Hi Steve, Yes it looks like you have the TA-60D and this filter here would be the proper replacement and it comes with the laterals and valve. If your pocket-book can afford it we would suggest going up to the TA-100D as you will get much more filtering capacity and it will put less stress on your pump. However the TA-60D would be suitable and the TA-100D would be an upgrade.

I have a TA-60D which we replaced with same model. Is there a trick into getting the valve in place and putting the clamps on? We cannot get this to position right in order for the clamp to fit. Without the O-ring, it slips right now, with the O-ring we are putting a ton of pressure on top fo the valve in order to fit. Please advise.
Reply
Hi Liz, sometimes there is air pressure inside of the filter tank creating resistance against the valve when you are trying to seal it to the filter top so it might help to open the drain cap at the bottom of the filter while you are installing the multiport valve.

How long should a Tagelus Fliter last? How often does the sand need to be changed?
Reply
A sand filter should last a decade or more. The sand is usually replaced every 3 to 5 years; bather load, location of the pool, and stable water chemistry will affect how often sand needs to be changed.

I have the Tagelus Top Mount Filter TA60D Almond W/Valve - EC-145241 which has 1 1/2" plumbing. My pool plumbing is 2" Can I adapt the valve to work with my existing pool plumbing or do I need to get a 2" compatible valve for the TA60D?
Reply
Hi Ric, You can use plumbing adapters to reduce down to 1.5" however this will impact your flow rate. Ideally you would change the valve to this valve here 2" Tagelus Valve
