What is the Pentair Intellichlor Dummy Cell used for?
Reply
The Dummy cell is basically a cell with no internal parts, this cell is used during cleaning of the real cell. So when you remove the real cell for cleaning you would put the dummy cell in place of the real cell. After you have finished cleaning the real cell you would remove the dummy cell from the plumbing and place the real cell back in place. You may view or purchase the Dummy Cell here >http://www.inyopools.com/Products/03500001032551.htm

Hello, I just replaced my salt chlorinator with a replacement and I discovered that the scale in front has been installed upside down. So now if I want to read what the green and red lights mean I have to read it upside down, and that doesn't make sence . why did they change this set-up .for this kind of money I would expect a better quality.

Edward, Unfortunately that a common problem that customers have with this system. Other than having to read the control panel upside down customers are very happy with this unit.

We have had our salt chlorine generator for about 6 months now, for some reason it isn't producing chlorine, it has been cleaned regularly by our pool company and the last (2) weeks hasn't produced chlorine. CAN YOU HELP

Hi Samuel, You would need to find out why the system isn't generating chlorine. If there is any indicator light on the system you can find out what it means by using the troubleshooting guide in the Intellichlor Owner's Manual.

What is the ratio of acid to water to clean the cell? Also do submerge the whole cell into the solution or do you seal off one end and only put the solution inside? Thanks
Reply
Hi Joe, You will need to mix one (1) quart of muriatic acid with one (1) gallon of tap water in a plastic bucket, using the Intellichlor Acid Cleaning Kit - Salt (520670) to cap one side of the cell. The Intellichlor Owner's Manual has more detailed instructions.

The pool man has said my salt generator is bad and must be replaced. Is replacement the only solution? It is about three years old. It is an IC 20.

Hello Bill! Unfortunately there is no way to repair these units. You would have to replace the entire cell with the Intellichlor IC20 Replacement Cell part # 520554.

My pentair intellichlor system was professionally installed. I just need to change the cell. Is there a warranty on the cell if purchased here?
Reply
Hi Christie, The Intellichlor IC20 Replacement Cell comes with a one year manufacturer's warranty.

I purchased a replacement IC20 Cell from my local pool supplier and had it professionally installed by them. The original cell had been in use for 6 years and was installed in the opposite direction of this one. I was told by the service guy they must be installed with the flow going in the correct direction or will not produce chlorine. The words FLOW on the white collar are now at the bottom of the cell instead of the top.Flow indicator is green so which way is correct?Worked ok before.
Reply
Hi Breda, When the "Flow" indicator is green that means that water is flowing so the cell is installed correctly.

After cleaning the unit with acid and reinstaling it,the unit will not light up. Please advise

Ronald, I would recommend checking the breaker and making sure that the cell is properly plugged in.

I have an Intellichlor IC20 Cell which is coming up on 2 years old. My pool is showing ZERO chlorine. I've cleaned the cell with acid, all lights are green, I am running it at 100% for 9-10 hours a day in AZ, I drained my pool this past fall and filled it with water which I used a filter on the hose, I've even added salt to my pool and it is at about 3500ppm. Its less than 20K gallon pool. Pool store said all my water levels look good. I am at WITS END with this thing.
Reply
Hi MM, You may need to check the CYA level of the pool make sure it's high enough. If that level is within range then the cell might not be working.

Pool is operating since 2008. IC20 was replaced after 6 years in 2014. Current IC20 shows green lights but water testing at pool supply store shows no chlorine. Possible dead cell, don't know. How can it be tested to determine if it's still good or if another replacement IC20 is needed?

Hello, Chuck. The Intellichlor IC20 Replacement Cell - 520554 is based on 10,000 hours of cell life. If you operate a salt cell at 100% for 24-hours a day for two years, that would equate to 10,000 hours. Ideally, we do not operate our salt systems that way. Depending on your swimming pool gallons and the % output you have set the generator at you may have surpassed the 10,000 hours of cell life. The replacement Intellichlor IC20 Replacement Cell - 520554 (20k gallons) is shown here. You may also, view our How To Know When a Salt Cell is Bad - General by clicking here.

I have an IC-15 installed by a pool company 6 years ago and needs to be replaced. Can my power supply work with the IC-20 cell?
Reply
Yes, your power supply will work with all of the Intellichor cells so if you want to move up to a stronger cell you can.

Thanks for your answer.

What's the best way to clean the cell?
Reply
Mix one quart of muriatic acid with one gallon of tap water in a plastic five (5) gallon bucket. Always add acid to the water, never add water to the acid. Always wear eye protection and use rubber gloves. Always work in a well-ventilated areaPlace the cell vertically in the bucket with the cap end down, as shown in right side illustration. Carefully pour the acid solution (as described above) into the cell until the blades are just covered. Allow the acid solution to bubble, and to clean the blades. The acid should only be contained in the cell and not around it. A foaming action will begin, which is caused by scale being dissolved from the plates. If rigorous foaming action does not begin, the cell does not need to be cleaned.

My pool is just under 20k gallons. Would the IC20 be recommended or would it be more efficient to go with the 40K version?
Reply
Hi Monte, yes we would recommend going with the 40k model instead of having the 20k model working at its maximum capacity in order to keep up with the swimming pool.

We have a Intellichlor 30. Can we replace with an Intellichlor 20? Our pool holds 12000 gallons. We only need the cell itself, not the power unit. Want to be able to use the same unions as a direct replacement, if possible.

Hello Teri. According to Pentair Technical Service, the available system designations for the Pentair IntelliChlor Salt Chlorine Generator Systems are the IC20, IC40, and IC60. The available system designations for the Pentair iChlor Salt Chlorine Generator Systems are the iChlor15 and iChlor30. The IntelliChlor and iChlor Systems have identical Power Centers. The cell dimensions are not identical. The IntelliChlor Cell is longer than the iChlor Cell. It is possible to replace an iChlor30 Cell with an IntelliChlor IC20 Cell with the appropriate plumbing changes.
