This cleaner is designated as a pressure side cleaner which means:Pressure Pool Cleaners most pressure cleaners require a booster pump which is typically a ¾ horse power pump that is dedicated for use with the cleaner alone. The booster pump allows you to operate the pressure cleaner without taking any suction away from your main pool pump. The addition of the booster pump does mean pressure cleaners require a more involved installation than either suction or robotic cleaners. The booster pump is installed in tandem with your pool pump.

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Hi Joseph, If you have a Letro or Pentair LA01N Booster Pump then we would suggest replacing the Letro Booster Pump Shaft Seal and the Letro Booster Pump Body O-Ring. We also carry All of the Replacement Parts for the Letro LA01N Booster Pump.

The motor worked perfect yesterday. Today it hums for about 5 seconds and the rotor does not turn over, then it stops humming. sn 1-21-h08 What is the round box on top of the motor?

The round box on top of the motor is a start capacitor. If the motor hums and then trips, more than likely that capacitor has gone bad. To get the correct one, we would need the numbers off of the specific capacitor inside that cover.

How do I check to see if the start capacitor on top of the motor is bad. I opened the cover and everything looks OK, (not burnt). Motor trips when turned on. You can here it hum for a couple of seconds without turning the motor shaft, then trips. I have a multi-meter, but not sure how to test the start capacitor.

If all it's doing is humming than it's the capacitor that needs to be replaced.

My booster pump just hums and won't start, it will stay like that and will become hot. The shaft will spin if I turn it with my hand. What do you suggest to check/replace?

Please suggest a replacement booster pump for my Pentair Platinum Legend. The current pump nameplate show part no. 7-187400-20; is 3450 rpm; 3/4 HP; 240/110v. I don't have the capacity nor discharge pressure.

MY 10 year old Pentair LAO1N single speen pressure side pool cleaner (legend platinum pool clener) booster pump, 3/4 HP, 115/230 volt just burnt up and I need to replace.
Shouls I consider upgrading to the Pentair LA-MS05 Boost-Rite ?

Hi, Pat. You can replace the LA01N pump with the Boost-RitE® Booster Pump - BOOST-RITE. It's a more efficient pump.

I just bought the LA01N Universal booster pump and had it installed. It stated that the motor is premiered for 230 high voltage and needed to be modified by a certified electrician to low voltage. Did that but when we ran it it started smoking. What could be the problem.

Robert, If the motor started smoking, it may have been wired incorrectly. Please check the wiring diagram on the motor label and compare it to how the wires are connected to the wiring terminal.

These do not come saltwater friendly from the factory as most pumps in the industry come, but you can always change the main shaft seal to a heavy duty version and make the pump salt friendly. That shaft seal would be part number 5250-225.

My pump motor is missing the plastic shaft end cover located near the electrical cover. Are these sold separately?

Hi Eugene, unfortunately not for this version motor. These are more of a special application type of a motor for a pool cleaner booster pump.

1) is this booster pump a necessity if you aren't using the cleaner? Or does it need to boost the regular pump during normal times?
2) is there a reason it just stopped working without any noise? The impeller in the back can turn by manually turning it.

The booster pump is used for the pool cleaner. If you do not have a pool cleaner you will not need this pump.My guess without seeing what you are talking about is that the motor is no longer working on the booster pump, but it will be hard for us to troubleshoot the issue over the Internet.

Is your LA01N booster pump new or refurbished? Can the homeowner install without requiring a pool professional for the warranty to be in effect?

As long as the pump is installed properly then yes the warranty will be intact if a homeowner installs the pump.
