How do I backwash my Hayward Vertical Grid DE filter?
Reply
When the filter pressure rises 8-10 PSI over the clean starting pressure, the filter must be backwashed. Turn off the pool pump. Rotate the multiport valve to backwash position or slide the slide valve up. When the pump is turned on, the dirty DE and water will flow out to waste. Once the water runs clear, turn off the pump. With a slide valve, push the handle down and start the pump. Once the pump is primed, add the required DE. If using a multiport valve, rotate the handle to rinse. Turn on the pump and let water flow for 20-30 seconds, cleaning out the plumbing lines. Turn off the pump and rotate the valve back to filter. Turn on the pump and once primed add required DE.

All I need for this filter is the SP0410X502S valve to have a complete installation? The grids are included with the filter, right?
Reply
Yes the Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter 60 Sq Ft is a complete filter, including the grids, but you will need a backwash valve. The Hayward 2" Slide Valve for DE Filter is the correct valve that connects to the Pro Grid Series of Hayward D.E. Filters. You would not need anything additional for a complete installation, with the exception of possible re-plumbing of your existing pipe work.

Will valve SP0710XR50 work on the Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter 60 Sq Ft?
Reply
Hi Nancy, Yes this valve does work on the Hayward DE6020 or DE6000 DE filter, this would be the correct valve if you have 1.5" plumbing going into the valve. If you have 2" plumbing then we would suggest the SP0715XR50 2" Backwash Valve

Hi, Im new homeowner. I have a pool 18x36 size. It has 36sq ft hayward 3620 DE filter. That filter is death a few days ago. I need a new filter but i could not decide what kind of filter do i need. somebody says sand filter, somebody says de filter. When i check the de filters it contains vertical cartridge, but my deat filter had 8 pcs grids. So, do you have any recommendation? thank you.

Hello you can go either way, but D.E is the best filter system for pools. We have "how to" guides so you can see the D.E cleans/replacing grids/etc. Now with sand it is less maintenance, you could get as long as 5-15 years before the sand is needing to be replaced depending on what sand media you use. With D.E. normally its about every 6 months a normal grid cleaning (taking grid out, spraying grids and inspecting for any holes or breaks).

Does the Hayward Pro-Grid D.E. Filter DE6020 com complete with the vale as shown on you picture?

Unfortunately, No it doesn't come with. It does state that in the title. If you want I can provide the part number for the valve and pricing.

My pool has a DE filter DE6000 and VariFlo valve P0710XR50.
I have noticed that DE is entering the pool when filtering. I understand that the DE6000 is no longer made (replaced by DE6020). I read that the grid is the same, but I am not sure if the DE6020 is exactly interchangeable with my DE6000. Can I simply swap them out? Are the sizes of the units the same (I have a height restriction in my crawl space)? Lastly, are the in/out ports at the same location so no plumbing changes are required?

Ash. The DE6020 uses the same valve as the DE6000 and will be a drop in replacement. It will require little to no plumbing changes.

Hi, I currently have a DE6000 and the bottom part of the tub has a crack. Can I buy just the bottom or do you think I have to replace the whole filter? If so will this one fit all the parts I have now with the DE6000? Thanks!

Hi, The DE6000 Tank Bottom is no longer available, you'll have to replace the entire unit. The DE6020 model can be used as a replacement.

I have a DE6020 FILTER.Is there a replacement part for the clamp bolt Kit DEX2420jk or the clamp assembly DEX2429J and O Ring
Reply
Hello Ted- If you have the DE6020 you would need the Clamp Assembly (dex2420j) - DEX2421JKIT.

We bought a house that came with a 12000 gal pool, a 2 hp motor and 48 sf de filter. The pump is obviously way too much for what we need. The filter top just blew up. Would going to a 60 sf filter solve the problem or do we need to downsize the pump?

Hi, Ron. I'd recommend that you either calculate if you need a 2 hp pump using our How to Size a Pool Pump, or How To Measure Total Dynamic Head With Gauges guides. Going to a larger filter will be better if you need a pump that size.

Can I use this with an SP0710X32 sand filter vari-flo valve? I'd rather not have to re-plumb.

Unfortunately, no, you will require the Vari-Flo Valve 2" for DE - SP0715XR50

I have a hairline crack in the bottom of my DE6000. It appears the lower section is no longer available. Does the lower body of the DE6020 fit the DE6000?
Reply
Unfortunately no. The obsolete Hayward Micro-Clear D.E.filter parts are not replaced with any Hayward Pro-Grid D.E. filter parts.

...followup question to replacement of the DE6000. Would my existing clamp and o-ring, etc. still be compatible?
Thanks
Reply
The DE6000 Micro Clear clamp assembly is not compatible with any other filter and the Pro Grid clamp is not compatible with the Micro Clear.

I have the Hayward 60 sq ft stainless steel filter. Does its 8 grid assembly fit the DE 6020 ?
Reply
Yes, as long as you have the Hayward stainless steel D.E. filter and are getting the same square footage new style Hayward D.E. Pro Grid/PermaGrid then those grids will work.

I have a hayward de2420 and the bottom tank cracked. I would like to replace it with the 6020. Would that be an easy replacement just screw in place? Would I be able to use my existing multiport valve and plumbing? Thanks

Hi, DD. Yes, you can replace your DE2420 with this DE6020 model filter. You can use your existing valve and would be a drop-in replacement.

I have replaced the filter and you were right, it dropped right in, thank you. Now my pump motor is on the fritz. Do you have a recommendation on a new motor that would be suitable for this de6020 filter? It is much larger than my old filter so I think maybe I should size up the pump. My current motor is a CATB229SE 1.5h.p. cx y56j amps 7.2/14.4., 230/115 volt. Thank you!!

I can't seem to locate a model number on my existing filter. Based on the dimentions in your diagram. The shell size, and piping connections. Everything seems to be the same. Would this be a safe assumtion ?

It very well could be but in these instances we recommend taking the extra step and email us pictures to upload@inyopools.com so we can review to confirm.

I am replacing a Jandy DEL60 I assume this will match up to that.
Reply
Hello Deanna. The Hayward Pro Grid DE 60 sq ft Filter model W3DE6020 does match your Jandy DE Filter model DEL60 in only 1 specification, they are both 60 sq ft filters. That is where the similarity ends. The Jandy Inlet/Outlet heights do not match the Hayward Inlet/Outlet heights. The Jandy backwash valve is not compatible with the Hayward DE Filter. Replacing the Jandy DE Filter with a Hayward DE Filter (or any other manufacturer) will require additional plumbing and the purchase of a backwash valve specific to the manufacturer of the new filter. Attached please find information regarding backwash valves that are compatible with the Hayward Pro Grid Filter currently available. What multi port valve would I need for the Hayward DE6020 filter
Reply
Hi Debra, We would suggest this Slide Backwash Valve for Hayward DE Filters to be used in conjunction with the W3DE6020 filter.

my pool is a 20 by 40. will this filter be large enough?
Reply
Yes this would be the correct sized filter for a 20' x 40' pool. You will also require this Hayward DE Filter Slide Valve when installing this filter.

Is the top filter housing on the de6000 (DEX6000dc) obsolete (I stripped the threads on the pressure relief valve)? Does the newer DE6020 require piping work, different inlet and outlet heights, or can the two be changed out seamlessly? Thank you.

Hello Vernon, yes the newer Pro Grid series does make an even swap at the multiport valve ports with your older Micro Clear series. These are in stock with an approximate 3-7 business day lead time to be delivered. Once shipped tracking will be emailed as well. I have also emailed you an estimate that you can convert to an order if you choose.
