What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
Reply
The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

Where can my heater be installed?

There are specific venting requirements and clearance distances that must be met to ensure proper operation. Consult the owner’s manual for exact specifications for your model of heater.NOTE: Gas fired heaters should be diagnosed and repaired by trained personnel.

I would like to use the propane heater for off the grid application and I see it has a 120v plug. So is this for a circulating pump or ignition purpose and does it use a lot of power.
Reply
Murguy, You will need approx. 70 gpm through the heater for it to run. The "electric" on the heater is used to create spark ignition. Electric costs will vary depending on usage and cost (kwh) but can range from $75-$500. per month.

Hi Brittney, The best bet would be to contact a local propane company and they will be able to size the best tank for you and do the hooking up of the propane lines.

Why do some of heaters have an altitude rating. We are at 5500ft outside of Denver & that is reason for heater. Having hard time heating pool even tho closer to sun, but have cool nights.
Reply
Judy, You can read about why some heaters have altitude ratings at our blog titled, Do I Need a High Elevation Heater? The Hayward A/G Pool Heater 100000 BTU LP is only rated for up to 2000 ft, you will need the RayPak 106A Analog Control - 105K BTUs - Propane, ELE (4000-6999 FT)

CAN YOU GIVE ME A ESTIMATE ON THE TIME FRAME OF HOW LONG A
100LB. PROPANE TANK WILL LAST HEATING A 27FT ABOVE GROUND POOL?
Reply
Hi Terry, A 100 lb propane tank holds about 23.6 gallons of propane, and this unit can use about 1 gallon an hour to heat your pool. That that will provide you with 23 hours of heating time.
Reply
Wow...So your saying you could use a 100lb propane tank every 24hrs to heat a 24 foot round pool? That's like $70-$80 per day usage? Am I correct? Obviously when it gets up to temp it will cost less but we r thinking of going to a propane heater but might try a different solutionafter hearing these numbers. Thanks for the information though.

Hi Tim, everything you stated is correct and yes this can be an expensive option. You might consider a Swimming Pool Heat Pump. We have also put together and article on Which is Best a Gas Pool Heater or Swimming Pool Heat Pump which you may find helpful.

That a good heater just as long as it the correct size for your pool. If it's undersized then it will appear like it's not working very good.

Will the H100IDP1 work with a standard 100# propane cylinder? I have a small 16' x 4' pool that I'll take down in the fall. I want to locate the heater close to the pool. What would I need to do for the propane hookup?
Reply
Yes Mark, that will work with your current set up.

Hi Dennis. Once the plumbing connections are removed from the unit, tilt the unit forward to drain the water out of the heat exchanger.

21,000 gal pool what size propane heater would I need? do you still keep it plugged in once the propane is lit.aproximately how long to heat the water..
Reply
For that size of pool I would not recommend a heater smaller than the 300,000 BTU model, H300FDP, but for a pool I usually recommend a heat pump because it is more cost efficient. The heat pump I would recommend for your pool size would be part number HP21404T.

Looking into buying this heater. we have a 18ft above ground x 54". our pool is in a shady area and rarely sees sun. will this heater work to warm up the pool? and how long will it take to warm up? and how long does a 100lb or 23 gallon propane tank last for this size pool?
Reply
Hello, The H100IDP1 would be good to heat your above ground pool, I would recommend a solar blanket to lock in more heat so you don't have to run your heater that long. How long would it take to heat up your pool? That is depending on what temperature you would like it, anywhere from 12-24 hours if you are running that whole time GPM (gallons per minute) on this heater is 20-70 so for an 8hour turnover rate should be good in about 12 hours. We cannot determine how long that would last.

Considering getting heater for 10,000 gal 15x30 oval AG pool, not sure what the proper amount of BTU'S would be needed and what would be more cost effective propane or heat pump ?

Sarah, A 100k btu heater would be fine for a 15x30 abg pool. The cost efficiency would depend on what propane costs vs what electric costs in your area.

Is a 120v plug 110 or 240 plug in? and Do you need to run the heater continuously to maintain an even temp? Can you put it on a timer?

I am getting a 18' x 52" round pool installed in a couple weeks. I live in Minnesota so I feel a heater is necessary to extend our swim season. They are very expensive from the pool store I purchased the pool from and it does not include any installation. Should I get a propane or run a gas line and do you have a suggestion for the best size heater for the pool. Is propane easy to fill? Thank you for any help.
Reply
Julie, A 100k btu heater will be fine for an 18' round solid wall abg pool. The choice between natural gas and propane will depend on what will be easier to install. Keep in mind that you will have to have a propane tank installed on your property for the propane heater.

100 lb propane costs $80 and the cost of electricity is .40 cents a kilowatt hour.

Michael, This is an electronic ignition propane heater. You will need a propane tank in addition to this heater. We do not have electric heaters. We do carry electric heat pumps.

Hi, Tom. With this unit, you should only hear one click. If ignition does not happen within 10 seconds of the gas valve opening, then unit's module will lock. Then you will have to reset it.

Found this heater with the pool at a house I just purchased. I'm concerned I don't have the correct propane connector/hose. The propane hose inlet appears to have a female fitting, meaning the hose from the propane tank needs a male end? I'm finding most propane hoses have a female end connector. Is there a special hose or connector that fits into the heating unit? Thanks!

We highly recommend contacting an HVAC or Gas professional on this.
