what is the shortest length this can be adjusted to? My pool is only 14' wide x 38' long....

Hi Reubin, The Commercial Solar Reel I/G Pools 14'-18' Wide can be used on a pool as small a 14' wide. It can also work for your 14'x38' size pool.

Can this reel support 16mil cover for pool 18-35'? Without sagging? And can I insert my old 3 1/4" tube into 3 1/2" to store them away and make your tubes stronger?

Hello Ana, This solar Reel features an extra heavy gauge powder-coated aluminum frame. This reel can easily support up to a 60-ft. long solar blanket so this should be no problem for your 35 ft blanket. This frame is lightweight, yet strong, and will never rust or corrode. The big 3-1/2"-diameter anodized aluminum tubing is reinforced and will not sag or bind like reels of lesser quality. This solar reel cannot be modified to fit a 3 1/4" tube as it is designed for the tube that comes with it.

I have an 18' wide pool. Which of your commercial in ground reels should I order. Two models cover 18' and I cannot see any difference between the two so I am guessing price is the only consideration?

Hello, There are 2 types that would fit, Commercial Solar Reel I/G Pools 14'-18' Wide - NS980 is only for 14'-18' wide. Commercial Solar Reel I/G Pools 18'-20' Wide - NS983 is only specifically for 18'-20', both reels are for 18' so either one would work for you. To have a little more space I would recommend 18'-20' only because if you wanted to extend to have a little more room around your pool you have the room to extend.

Does this come with all the hardware to set up and use, like all the straps, and do the wheels lock?

Hi. Yes, all of the hardware is included. The caster does have a wheel lock feature.
