Dual Speed Means Low Operational Costs - up to 70% less
This pump is a dual speed pump meaning that it has super low operational costs. Dual speed pumps have a switch that allows you to run the pump at a high speed of 1 HP or you can switch the pump to the low speed to operate at .28 HP. Normally you can run the pump at the low speed for your general filtration and when doing so this costs about 70% less than running at the high speed of 1 HP. The great thing is you have the high speed for things like vacuuming or if you get into a demanding algae situation.
California Title 20 Compliant
This pump is compliant with the California Title 20 energy efficiency laws.

How many hours per day should I run my pump?
Reply
There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

brand new in april.......all it does is humm ineither speed

Hello, I would confirm that you have the pump wired correctly-- the motor likely came factory set for 240v, but if you only have 120 running to it, that hum is the sound of the unit not having enough power to turn. If you have the motor wired to the correct voltage, it could also be a faulty start capacitor-- I would perform a multimeter test on the capacitor to confirm, but if the start capacitor is faulty, then it will also hum and cause the motor to not turn. Because the pump was a recent purchase, you should be able to get a replacement under warranty by calling our customer service number at 407-834-2200.

For a PL1506 pump, how hot should the motor case get during low and high speed operation? I'm seeing 134 degrees F on low speed and 130 degrees F at 77 degrees outdoor temperature, partially shielded from the sun. I know this pump is UL1081 certified and thermally protected, but this seems to be running rather hot at a fairly low outside temperature. I'm using the pump with a Waterway 22" sand filter, seeing 12 PSI at the multi-port valve gauge which is considered normal.

Chris, there is no "set temperature" for the high and low speeds. While the outdoor temperature can affect the motor's temperature, the main source of heat comes from the motor's inner windings. Normal motor temperatures over 140 degrees are common.
