Can the light be changed without draining the pool?
Reply
Yes you can replace the bulb in your pool light with this LED bulb without needing to drain your pool water. You will first need to turn off power to the pool light at your breaker then go to the pool light and remove the pilot screw which is located on the face ring of your light. Once the pilot screw is removed this will allow you to bring your entire light fixture up on to your pool deck where you can then replace the bulb. The replacing of the bulb is as simple as unscrewing the old bulb and screwing in the new bulb. I would also suggest replacing your lights lens gasket when replacing the bulb, the two most popular would be the Hayward Astrolite Lens Gasket and the Pentair Amerlite Lens Gasket. We also have a great Video on How to Replace a Swimming Pool Light Bulb which will walk you through the process.
Reply
is there a remote control to stop the changing colors or does it cycle the different colors constantly?
Reply
The light would be controlled through a standard light switch or your pool control system. Flipping your light switch on and off relatively quickly will cycle the light to the next color or next light show. There are 16 modes, 7 modes are fixed colors and 9 modes are rotating color shows.
Reply
Can the light be stopped on one particular color? I tried downloading the owners manual and there seems to be a bad link
Reply
Yes the light can be stopped on a color there are 7 fixed colors white, red, green, blue, gold, cyan and violet. You would cycle to the fixed colors by flipping your pool light switch relatively quickly. In addition to the fixed colors there are 9 color shows..... Evening Sea (slow animation of blue and red), Evening rivers (slow animation of green and red), Riviera (slow animation of blue and green, Rainbow (slow animation of all colors), River of Colors (slow animation of all colors followed by Four Seasons), Disco (fast animation followed by Rainbow) and Party (Fast animation followed by River of Colors).

What is the correct wattage for lighting equivelent to the existing 12V 300W bulb?
Reply
Hi Dane, I would suggest the 12V 35 Watt Pure Colors LED Pool Bulb as an equivalent replacement to a 12V 300 Watt Bulb.
Reply
What size is the base ? I need a replacement for a halogen mini candelabra style
bulb.
Reply
Hi Steve, This bulb has an R40 base. Unfortunately there is no LED bulb that can work with a fixture that uses a mini candelabra style bulb.

Well my pool light stopped turning on a few months ago. I really hoped it was due to the light being burned out and not a bad wire from the fixture back to the switch, but I wouldn’t know until spring when it got a little warmer.
Spring came and I ventured to figure out the problem. I was able to remove the single screw holding my pool light fixture in by just laying on my pool deck and reaching in. Once I had the fixture out of the water and taken apart, I out a household bulb I had in and flipped the switch. It worked! This meant my pool bulb was bad.
I ordered a new bulb, opting to go for the color changing LED one. Shipping was quick and it arrived in a few days. I also ordered a new gasket, because I’d read that you should replace it when doing this repair.
That weekend I got into the pool and screwed the fixture back in. The new color changing bulb is awesome. The whole family loves it, and it should last a heck of a lot longer than the old style of bulbs did, while using a lot less electricity too!

Took the old fixture out, unscrewed the old bulb matched the model number of the fixture with Inyopools cross-reference and ordered the new bulb.
This was as seamless as changing a light bulb. The correct bulb was sent that I matched with model number, it came incredibly fast and InyoPools even got the order out the same day and I ordered after the 1:00 cut off time.
They went over and above with customer service!~ Thank you InyoPools!

If you are handy with DIY projects, this is one you can do. Having LED lights in the pool and spa is a huge energy $$$ saver. We have our pool lights on every morning and evening now. Prior to this, we rarely used the lights.
NOTE: This light should NOT be used with a dimmer. This important information is not very obvious in the documentation.
1. Turn off power to pool lights at the breaker.
2. Layout tools on towel along the deck above the light niche.
3. Get in the pool (I will use any excuse to get in the water).
4. Unscrew single pilot screw at top of light niche.
5. Pull out light fixture and lay on towel.
7. Note location of screw and clamp holding lens in place (You'll want to reassemble it in the same position).
8. Use a socket set to loosen clamp holding lens and ring to fixture. Remove clamp, ring, and lens.
9. Remove old gasket, clean rim of fixture, replace with a new gasket.
10. Remove 500 watt bulb and replace with 35 watt color changing LED bulb.
11. Clean lens.
12. Turn power on at breaker, test bulb, turn power off at breaker.
13. Reassemble lens, ring, and clamp to fixture. Securely tighten clamp with socket wrench. Use pliers to take out some slack in the clamp ring, if necessary.
14. Set light fixture in water and test for air leaks. If a steady stream of bubbles appear, quickly remove the fixture and check the assembly around the gasket.
15. Wind cord around fixture and you return the fixture to the niche.
16. Align the fixture to the niche and replace the pilot screw to hold it in place.
17. Turn the power on at the breaker.
18. Test the light (See the directions for selecting the desired color setting or syncing with a color changing LED spa light).

Removed screw holding light fixture to niche and removed the assembly from pool
Removed lens retaining ring and old gasket
Removed old bulb
Cleaned gasket residue from housing and lens
Left assembly to dry overnight as there was a small amount of moisture inside
Reassembled with new LED bulb and gasket.
Assembled retaining ring then attached to lens and gasket to housing (you will need to pry ring onto 1 or 2 of the retainer hooks then fully tighten).
Replace light assembly into the niche.

So first I turned off all the power by cutting the breaker to the switch for the pool light. Then I used a phillips head screw driver to remove the pool light retaining ring from the pool wall releasing the light fixture to the surface of the pool. Then I removed the lens tension ring and removed the lens gasket and and lens. Then cleaned up the surface wall of stainless housing, replaced the old gasket on the lens and, inserted the new light bulb following the directions carefully and reassembled. Total time about 30-45 mins for someone that has done it before.

I removed the pool light with one Phillips head screw. Removed the light from the water. Used screwdriver and wrench to remove the light retaining clips. Took old bulb out and replaced with led bulb and out everything back on. Took 15 minutes total and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Highly recommend.

This year the pool light was not working. I turned off the circuit breaker for the pool light. I got in the water with a phillips screwdriver. There is 1 screw at the top of the light ring. The light then comes out at the top and you just lift up on it a little and it comes out. You can then lay it on the pool deck as the cord is a few feet long and is just stuffed into the fixture area. I recommend taking a few photos of it before taking it apart, especially the way the tightening ring is installed as I tried to put mine back on incorrect. Once I removed the fixture I loosened up the retaining ring and removed it. The light/glass cover and gasket may be a little stuck. I gently used a putty knife to pry them apart from the aluminum fixture. I cleaned up the glass and rubber gasket. The gasket was still in good condition so I didn't replace it but if it is not in perfect shape I would replace it. I then tested my old bulb in a regular light fixture to verify it was the bulb and not the fixture that was bad. I ordered the new bulb and it arrived in a few days. I installed the bulb in the new fixture. I then installed the clamp ring which took extra time due to not taking photos at dis-assembly. Once it was all tight I got in the pool with my screwdriver sitting on the pool deck. You have to insert the cord and kind of hold it in there while you get the bottom of the fixture hooked into the ring. The you can raise or swing the fixture into position. It is a little difficult to hold yourself there while trying to get the screw started. The moving around disrupts your vision into the water. You have to try to be very still above water and get your face close to the water to see it well enough to start the screw. once it starts you are good to go and tighten it up. I then tested the light and all works great just as advertised.

Decided to repair by replacing with 35w LED color bulb. I had never performed this before, but with aid of INYO Pools online video, I ordered the appropriate LED bulb and the replacement gasket (a necessity) and carefully followed the instructions. The result was striking! We are thrilled with the effect of the 16 different color choices! I'm sure I could do it again in less than half the time, but I was careful and methodical to avoid problems this first time.

I needed to replace my pool light and wanted the benefits of LED. Two quotes from pool services put the deal at over $500. I purchased the bulb for a DIY effort. A single screw released the light fixture (though it was hard to unscrew while holding my breath underwater and pushing on the screwdriver pushed me away from the wall). Once I uncoiled the cord and opened the fixture, it was easy to replace the bulb. Carefully clean all surfaces. I replaced the gasket and retightened. Reinstalling the fixture was harder than removing, but not too difficult. Unfortunately, I didn't tighten the bolt enough and developed a small leak that damaged the bulb. Be sure to tighten the bolt all the way.

The change out should have been faster but one detail that we weren't aware of caused us to open the fixture twice rather than once.
1. turn off power to light
2. remove light fixture by unscrewing the one and only screw located on the top of the niche ring
3. place light fixture on deck of pool
4. loosen ring
5. pry off rubber gasket
6. clean glass and ring well to remove gunk
7. install new rubber gasket
This next step is crucial, but nowhere do you find instructions or mention of this. If you have the Pentair/Amerilite glass lens cover, make sure that when you put it back together that you assembly it so that the "grid" patern on the glass lens cover is vertical and horizontal. Make sure that it is not slanted. The reason being is that you will get one ugly shadow in your pool that makes the pool look like it's got lots of dirt on the bottom. Husband wanted to leave it as is, but I fixed it because it was just wrong!
8. Line up glass lens so that the writing is centered on the top and that the patterned glass is vertical and horitontal and not slanted.
9. Tighten up the screw that holds the lens on light fixture
10. Wrap extra cord around fixture and place in niche
11. Place light fixture in niche while lining up the tabs and install using screw on top
10. Turn power on and watch the light show

We were flipping a house with an older pool that needed a new light - we knew we wanted an LED - and while there are tons of options out there and we couldn't find anything in stock at local but national franchise vendor ... In fact, in our entire area of North Texas/DFW they had nothing in stock - not even a plain-jane white one so we went on-line and liked the price. We had to get the pool refilled quickly so we had a very short time window. Also, your on-line chat gave us guidance on what information they needed to confirm what we needed would work The house has great ambient lighting to the pool deck/area. We were looking for something that would use less energy but offer some color options. This was a perfect choice and we are very pleased with the results. We only took one picture with the blue on but it fit perfectly and was easy to install as the pool had been drained.

(5 out of 5 stars) The Light Show is Wonderful to Watch
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
Pool size - 28' x 15.5" Pool finish - Diamond Bright Marlin Blue One single light at the deep end of the pool We love the versatility of the light and 16 programs you can choose from. The light show is wonderful to watch. The LEDs throw light very well to the other end of the pool, with the exception of the red LEDs, which I believe has to do with the red colour wavelength. I would recommend buying up to the 35-watt bulb for a little more money for better overall lighting. Along with the energy saving Led bulbs, which will reduce substantially my operational costs, I feel much better about leaving the pool light on longer. This bulb was installed in an American Products pool light, Model R-100 BC, replacing an old GE 12v 100 watt pool bulb. I would recommend an extra hand compressing down the new gasket as you re-screw in the clips along the rim to prevent cross threading the screws at a slight angle. Other than that I would consider this an easy install for someone who would like to save a little money and DIY. At the local pool supply store, a similar Led Pool bulb would cost me about $300.00, not including the cost of install. Thank you Inyopools.com for all your helpful information and product pricing to make my project possible.

(5 out of 5 stars) We Prefer White or Steady Blue
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
I have posted on Facebook and have a number of folks ask me about them. I did have an issue that I posted on tech but didn’t get a response. It seems that on one of the settings one of the lights would turn off for about 10-15 minutes and then would come back on. After that, it seems to stay on until timer shuts all off. The surface color (I assume you mean the liner) is a mixture of blue and tan colors. Our pool is approximately 40,000 gallons, 40 feet on long end by about 24 feet on one end. We have 2 lights and we prefer white or steady blue. The red really just looks like a shark attack about five feet from light so that one is not that great. The other lights are pretty cool, but the disco action is a bit much. My wife doesn’t care too much for the green (mainly because it reminds her of when we first got this place and had to really reclaim the pool). So far our rating is 5.

(4 out of 5 stars) PureColors Light Hit the Right Marks
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
We recently resurfaced our pool with Caribbean Blue mini pebble, and that seemed like the perfect time to replace/upgrade our old standard light. The PureColors light hit the right marks... It was well-priced, didn't require fancy extra automation equipment to get the full benefits, and it worked perfectly right out of the box. Our pool is 15,000 gallons, approximately 35 feet long by 12 feet wide, free-form shape. We have one light and it does the job just fine. Full red does not illuminate the entire pool, but that's the nature of red LEDs. The other colors light the entire pool very well, and the light shows/animations are a fun touch, especially to add some atmosphere to evening outdoor entertaining! I give the PureColors a 4/5. Why not 5/5? Well, it's simple. This is 2018, and I feel that pool technology is in the stone ages. I don't want to (nor do I feel like I should have to) spend thousands of dollars on pool automation systems to get functions that are simple and commonplace outside of pools. The ubiquity of smart home solutions and products on the market should be embraced by the makers of pool equipment, and I look to a brand like PureLine to disrupt the market and maybe take the opportunity to really deal a punch to the juggernauts Hayward and Pentair, who still want to charge exorbitant amounts of money for simple smart solutions or features. What would have made this LED light a 5/5? Simple - a very simple controller unit that I could connect to with Bluetooth or Wifi from my phone and integrate into my smart home solution. I know it's possible, and not even that difficult, because I'm building it myself with about $40 worth of parts. If I can do it, they can, and they should.

28' x 12' pool (12k gallon) pool with white gunite surface. Single 35w LED light in pool. It snugly fit into my Hayward light housing and had an excellent layout of LEDs to evenly distribute the colors and does not pixelate like other LED bulbs do which keeps the bulb from looking like a disco party light when viewed from head-on. I like that I can leave the light on without concern of early burnout or higher electricity bills. The 16 different color patterns are more than enough. My favorite currently is the blue to purple color fade. All colors are bright with exception to red which is dimmer, but that was expected as red lumens are lower naturally. The color fades are smooth and without glitching providing a top-notch experience. Unlike most LEDs pool bulbs, this one does have 2 white colored options, which is nice if you want to find your wife's earring :)... but I like the colors the most. I bought this unit instead of the other brands that come with remotes which appear to always have problems. To remote control, I replaced the exterior power switch that normally controls the pool light with a Leviton ZWave Plus light switch and connected to my smart home hub to control the light from my cell phone including changing the color programming and running the light on a schedule. I would like to add a like bulb to my spa and see the synchronized lighting work with these cool bulbs. Remember to always replace the gasket each time you open the light housing, so order one with the bulb. You can chat with their support and they can quickly confirm what you need. Ryan

Have had installed now for about 4 months and works great. The red light is pretty dim but that was expected by the description and reviews. All the others work great.

The only thing I don’t like is this light is difficult to get the color you want using my PDA, but I realized that my be a problem when purchasing this bulb since it is a light switch controlled bulb. If I get tired of this problem it will be a pretty easy fix by installing an on off switch in the supply line. Franky

(5 out of 5 stars) Color changing light adds something extra to the pool or for just sitting outside after dark.

light works great just as advertised. The light reaches the whole pool. The different blues are the best. suggest taking a photo of the retaining ring before taking the fixture apart. I wasted a little time trying to assemble it wrong but that was my fault. Take a few extra minutes and get photos of how the ring is installed.

(5 out of 5 stars) Great LED Pool Bulb!!!
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
Purchased this bulb and am extremely happy it... it is really bright and has a great selection of colors and programs to choose from. Much brighter than another brand of LED bulb I bought last year and it even works with my iAqualink pool automation system. I have it installed in the deep end of my pool

Great Light for the price. Install was easy, replacing the 500w incandescent. Most programs are very nice. I especially love the slow fades. The colors are rich and attractive. The red is less bright than I expected, even given comments by others. Apparently, the red wavelength struggles in water. The lavender color that uses red is still beautiful. It lights the pool well, though the individual LEDs create spots on the pool walls. An interesting effect.

(5 out of 5 stars) Nice change from the bright white light. Easy install and easy to go through the programmed combinations

We just installed this bulb and really like it. The only thing that we don't like is that red light color is useless and should be omitted because it does nothing and it's just one more program to go through. We don't have a fancy controller, so it's a matter of switching the light switch off and on to go through the programs. It's no problem but I'd rather there be quality colors rather than a strobe light around the pool or a couple of other programs. I would recommend it, though.

All in all, a pretty nifty light. Cheap to run LED lights versus incandescent -bunches of colors and displays available. Must say however that I mostly use either white or a blue light-the blood red is too creepy and the strobe are annoying-I suspect it would throw an epileptic into a seizure by watching the strobe display (note profound exaggeration) Anyway, easy to replace, cheap to run and gives a variety of colors-all around a good buy.
