I just purchased a house with a pool. I tested the pool water and according to the chart, I need to adjust the pH, alkalinity, chlorine and calcium hardness levels. How much of each do I need to add to my pool?
Reply
The amounts of each chemical you will need to add will depend on the volume of the swimming pool (gallons) and the actual chemical levels. You can use our How To Guide for reference.

What can we use in our salt water pool to lower the alkalinity?

My test kit only check for chlorine and pH. What does the alkalinity do?
Reply
Total Alkalinity is a measure of the "buffering capacity" of water, or its ability to resist a change in pH. Low Total Alkalinity can cause: etching of pool plaster, corrosion of metal parts, staining of the pool surfaces, etc. High Total Alkalinity can cause cloudy water, burning of eyes, chlorine being ineffective, etc.

How much of this alkalinity increaser or sodium bicarbonate can I add to my pool at once?
Reply
You should only add up to 10 lbs. per 10,000 gallons of pool water of our alkalinity increaser per treatment if needed. Also we advise to mix with pool water first and not to add any other chemicals in conjunction with it. Follow the printed instructions if unsure and leave the pool running for 24 hrs after ward for proper circulation of the chemical.

(1 out of 5 stars) MISLEADING DESCRIPTION OF CONTAINER
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
The description (and photo) says it's a 25 lb BUCKET. Actually, it comes as a plastic bag filled w/25 lbs of product in a flimsy cardboard box. NO bucket! Makes storage & use of it difficult. I'll go back to buying the Clorox product at the local Lowe's. It works well and comes in a container that can stand up to the pool environment. Very disappointed in INYO for such a misleading description & photo.
