My test kit only check for chlorine and pH. What does the alkalinity do?

Total Alkalinity is a measure of the "buffering capacity" of water, or its ability to resist a change in pH. Low Total Alkalinity can cause: etching of pool plaster, corrosion of metal parts, staining of the pool surfaces, etc. High Total Alkalinity can cause cloudy water, burning of eyes, chlorine being ineffective, etc.

I was advised to increase a pool alkalinity and based on the water test it was required to add 10lb of Alkalinity Increaser. Bought this product online at INYOPOOLS. Add the product to the pool following instructions on the bag.
Works fine. Happy with results
