We have the Zodiac LM3-24 and need to replace the cell. We usually get the LM3 -24 but wonder if we can use the LM3-51 since our pool is only 8,000 gal. Will it fit the same housing?

Unfortunately the LM3-15 cell would not communicate properly with the LM3-24 power supply. So you would require the LM3-24 Replacement Cell. The plus side to having a salt cell which is oversized for your pool is that you should be able to run it for shorter periods of time, which means the cell should last quite a bit longer than the LM3-15 cell.

How long does a cell normally last? Also, the LM3-15 cell you have will fit the zodiac model without having to modify the casing?

There are too many variables to say how long those usually last, but it is a generic cell which is not going to last as long as the OEM cell. I recommend spending the money on a better system, Compupool no long exists so finding replacement parts is going to get more and more difficult.
