Model # LM3-24
Warranty 3 years
AUTOMATICALLY MANUFACTURERS CHLORINE FROM SALT IONS IN YOUR POOL!
Save time and money on chlorine and chemicals with Zodiac's chlorine generators. Swim in soft silky water that you produce; and say goodbye to red eyes, skin irritation and harsh chemical odors. It's 100% pure, trouble-free chlorine produced naturally and automatically. By adding a mild salt solution to your pool, the Zodiac LM3 charges the salt ions and produces chlorine. The salt solution in your pool is at a much lower level that is found in a human tear.
The Zodiac LM3 is fully automatic so you can set the chlorine level and forget it. The unit will automatically keep your pool chlorinated at the desired setting. The LM3 also reverses polarity which cleans the units electrodes, virtually eliminating any calcium build-up on the cell. The system is made with clear housing for easy inspection, and touch panel controls with a memory feature that make setting it easy.
The LM3 also has a unique super-chlorination feature, which can be activated at the touch of a button. This mode automatically boosts chlorine levels after periods of heavy usage or hot weather. We offer the LM3 in two sizes to accommodate most pools. It is backed with a 3-Year Warranty on the cell and a 1-Year Parts and Labor Warranty on the entire unit.
End the hassles and expense of buying chlorine and enjoy silky soft, clear pool water with Zodiac's LM3 Chlorine Generator.
A model for every pool
Unlike other chlorinators that offer one model for all size pools, the Zodiac LM3 Salt Water Chlorinator offers three models to insure proper chlorination and pool balance:
Easy Operation
The Zodiac LM3 Salt Water Chlorinator was designed to make pool sanitation as easy as possible. Not only will a Zodiac LM3 chlorinate your pool automatically, but its day-to-day operation can be summed up in one sentence: Set it and forget it. The LM3 will reduce the need to add chemicals and decrease spikes in your chlorine readings at the touch of a button, while you can relax and enjoy the crystal clear water. For added convenience, the Zodiac LM3 is also able to communicate with various types of Pool Automation Controls. The Zodiac LM3 Salt Water Chlorinator incorporates a unique Super Chlorination feature which can be activated with one touch. This is a fast and convenient method to automatically boost chlorine levels to compensate for heavy bather load, increases in temperature, or heavy rains. The chlorine production can be monitored through the LM3's unique power bubble.

I have a pool that is about 10,000 gallons but I am thinking of buying a salt chlorine system for pools up to 20,000 gallons. Would the larger unit be a problem?
Reply
It is not a problem to oversize a salt system. It would take the larger unit less time to produce the necessary chlorine so it is actually more efficient. When the pool volume is very close to the capacity of the salt chlorine generator (for example, the pool is 18,000 gallons and the generator is rated at a maximum of 20,000 gallons), we would recommend going up to the next size generator.

Is the salt included with the salt chlorine generator?
Reply
No, salt is not included. You would purchase the salt locally and the quantity will depend upon the number of gallons of water in your pool. Use a salt that is at least 99.8% pure NaCl. The preferred salt is evaporated, granulated, food quality, and NON-iodized. Avoid using salt with anti-caking agents like sodium ferrocyanide, also known as yellow YPS (prussiate of soda). These cause some discoloration of fittings and pool surface finishes. DO NOT use calcium chloride.

(4 out of 5 stars) Salt system

Pros: easy installation
Cons: large salt cell
This product is a very simple installation. The salt cell is large in size which make it very difficult to place it within all you other pool equipment. Another down fall it has is the way the power unit buttons are on the top of the unit. Unless you make a cover for it the sun will cause them to punch in and then water gets in and ruins the board inside. It could have a better design for that, but over all it does a great job.

Pros: Excellent Salt Water Chlorine Generator!
Cons: I have none.
Unit was delivered to my home on the 23rd of May 2011, & installed on the 31st. Even though I got this review request several days before the unit was installed, I decided to wait to see how the unit performed. So far, the unit has performed quite admirably. It's doing the job that I had hoped it would do. My pool water is clean & sparkling. And the chlorine is very soft & pleasing to the eyes & body skin. My pool is approximately 18,000 gallons; this unit is rated for 24,000 gallons. It more than meets my needs.

(4 out of 5 stars) upgrade from LM2 to LM3
Reviewed By: Dan B. from Fountain Hills, AZ ()
Pros: rated to 42 PSI
Cons: No threads, have to glue in with additional plumbing
I was a little disappointed the LM3 did not have threads like the LM2 but it was easy to plumb since I was already plumbed for an LM2. The end cap where the electricals are was not tight so it leaked on initial start up. A little magic lub and a proper snug fit took care of the leak, 5 minute fix.

Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Difficult to remove cell assembly for cleaning
I had to replace an older version of a Zodiac chlorine generator whose cells had gone bad. With some minor modifications to the plumbing I had the new LM3 installed in about two hours. The biggest problem I am having is removing the cell assembly for cleaning of deposits. I have to use a pipe wrench in order to remove the threaded plastic rear housing that has to be tightened with a pipe wrench to keep from leaking. This is probably because the O-ring that acts as a seal for the cell assembly may be too small. I fear that I may end up cracking the plastic housing before too long. Otherwise, the unit operates very well.
