Hi Michael, It does not matter how the module is installed into the base according to the Paramount Water Valve Manual.

Pros: Same as original equipment
This item was exactly the same as the original base installed in my pool. I purchased this 6 port base to replace a 4 port and just plugged two of the ports myself.
