David, Once you have the proper length of hoses that is required for your pool to operate the Haward Pool Vac, you'll connect the hoses to your suction port. With the hose submerge under water you'll attach this gauge to the lead hose, turn on the pump and the spring plate will move letting you know if you have enough suction.

  once you've connected the gauge to your lead hose and turn on your pump what should the gauge read? Thanks
