what is its purpose. it just sits inside of the bottom tank at the top. seems to have nothing to do with the o-ring. it sits on the outer lip of the tank. the retaining ring is on the inside of the tank away from the o-ring. always wondered what it was supposed to do.

Hi. The Jandy Pool Filter O-ring retaining ring is the stainless steel band that sits in the groove on the bottom half of the filter tank, used as a back plate for the filter tank o-ring to seal up against.
