Hello Tony - Pre 98 this filter was known as an American Products Quantum filter. The replacement for pre-98 is an obsolete part number , # 178551. You may still be able to find that part on E-bay or Amazon perhaps. According to the Pentair Technical service, this is what is suggested for a replacement, but they could not guarantee that it would be a perfect fit. Not sure why. If you wish to see if they can help you any further, please call them at 800-831-7133

Will this lid replace or sub for a Hayward de2400

Mark, Unfortunately it will not. The lid for the Hayward DE2400 was discontinued by Hayward without a replacement, so if you lid has gone bad then it might be time for a new filter. We would suggest one of these Waterway DE Filters as a replacement.

Super simple. You need a Locking wrench to unscrew the clamp unit to the filter that separates lid from filter bottom. Once its unclamped, lift old lid off, Replace the Black Gage on top of your old lid and insert and tighten to the new lid top and reinstall keeping attention to the rubber seal making sure it is INSIDE the filter top and bottom and not sticking out. Once you have it secured, and aligned, tighten with your locking clamp until unit is thoroughly sealed.
