Hi, I need to replace the ring on a Nautilus FNS 48 filter installed in 2004. The documentation provided in 2004 mentions for this item: "19-5008 Seal-Trapezoid-18" DIA".

I have a Nautilus FNS 48. I am tryin g to replace the O-ring (trapezoid shaped) that goes between the top and bottom halves of the tank under the clamp. How do I get the O-ring to stay in place to put the tank together? This tank doesn't have a lip to keep it in place.....

Hi, Mike. The o-ring must be lubricated and aid of the tank retaining ring the o-ring will be held in place.

Adjustable Wrench
I had been putting off this repair for a while, expecting it would be more difficult than it was. I drained the filter and lines, disassembled the stainless steel clamp around the center of the filter and removed the top.
After the top was off there is a steel ring on the inside that this gasket sits on. I removed the old dry gasket, slid this one onto the interior ring and reassembled. The leak was gone with the first try! I wish I had done this sooner!

The pool company was supposed to clean the DE filtering system via backwashing it, and then once a season remove the grids, do a full wash, and put in new DE.
After the pool turned green and they failed to do a good cleaning job, we took over the maintenance and the first thing was to open the DE filter. We found it packed full of fine dirt particles to the point that there was a full 2.5 to 3" of silt on each grid; thus we had to do a full cleaning.
When the O-ring was installed it leaked in two places. It did not appear to be worn, and we did a full cleaning of the matching surfaces (ring and lips of both the top and bottom of the tank) and new silicon grease used.
It still leaked and a new O-ring (o-420) was ordered and installed. The leaks are gone, the pressure is back to 22 PSI, and the pool water is again crystal clear.
The one problem that we had was getting the clamping ring tight enough so we could put the washers, spring, and bolt back on. The tip is to not use the washers or the spring, only the bolt to tighten the clamps, then remove the bolt and install the washers, spring and bolt.
You may have to use pliers or another device to hold the clamp in place until you can get the washers, spring, and bolt on as the clamp will have a tendency to try to loosen when you first remove the bolt.
Be sure to let the air out of the tank and to drain the tank before attempting any of the DE tank disassemblies.

I went to my local pool supply to get a filter gasket for my 15 year old canister filter and was told that the part was no longer available. They suggested INYOPools.com and sure enough, they have most of the part available for my discontinued unit. Nice!
