ASME Pool Heaters
Raypak offers its complete line of residential gas heaters in an ASME version. Raypak has state inspectors on-site daily performing certifications for their pool and commercial boiler production that may require ASME. Being in the boiler business for over 50 years truly makes Raypak the leader for your commercial needs.
Why ASME?
Some local codes require that public pools, pools that are in a condominium and apartment or other commercial application be ASME certified. ASME stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. They are a non-profit group which sets many industrial and manufacturing standards. A pool heater that is made to ASME standards will perform to a set of specifications as determined by ASME, specifically in relation to the operating water pressure the appliance can handle. Each and every ASME heat exchanger that goes into a Raypak heater is certified by a state inspector to make sure it complies with the ASME code for that particular product.
Cast Iron Glass-lined Header
Raypak applies its years of commercial boiler experience to the design of its cast iron glass-lined headers. A metal header design allows for the higher working pressures required by ASME. All ASME headers are inspected upon arrival at Raypak and each lot (pour date) tested by an independent laboratory. Only after the material passes stress analysis and metal composition tests is it approved for use in an ASME unit.
All Copper Fin Tube Heat Exchanger
All Raypak RP2100 ASME gas heaters come standard with .065" wall integral copper finned tubes. This tubing is over 50% thicker in wall thickness than standard tubing. Since the fins are integral to the tube, maximum heat transfer is attained. The fin tubing is made from one piece of extruded copper tube, not from separate fins attached to the copper tubes. Every RP2100 has the same robust design tube bundle that is used in Raypak's large gas commercial boilers. Built to last, built Raypak tough.
CPVC 2" Water Connections
Standard with every RP2100 is a set of 2" slip fit CPVC water connections to make your installation secure and effortless. These couplings screw into the 2" flanged header. You can also direct plumb your copper pipe into the flanged header.
Condensation Protection
Standard on all RP2100 models is Raypak's Unitherm Governor, which is like an automatic bypass. The Unitherm Governor automatically regulates the water flow to help keep the water temperature in the heat exchanger above 105°F.
Hi Flow Rates
No need to worry about large pumps or high flow systems. The RP2100 comes with an automatic bypass built into the header. The RP2100 can handle up to 125 GPM.
ISO 9001
Raypak is proud to be a ISO 9001 registered manufacturing plant. One more reason why Raypak is number onein the heater industry today.
End-of-Line Test
Every Raypak gas pool heater is plumbed and test fired before it is put in the carton. This ensures that your heater will fire right out of the box and continue to give you years of trouble-free operation.
Quality Checkpoints
The Raypak assembly process includes 6 final assembly quality checkpoints that help to ensure that each and every Raypak RP2100 is built correctly, and built to last.
CSA Certified
All of Raypaks products are CSA certified. The RP2100 is tested by CSA to the ANSI Z21.56 standard.
Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?
Reply
Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

What is the difference between an Electronic and Millivolt ignition?
Reply
The basic answer is that Millivolt is the old style of ignition, using a standing pilot light. While the electronic ignition uses a spark start system like a gas grill. Electronic ignitions are more efficient in gas usage and also are better suited for high wind areas where a pilot light might get extinguished.

What is A.S.M.E. ?
Reply
A.S.M.E., stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This group has laid out certain design criteria that would protect it’s industry and insures that products meets all ASME standards. Some states or counties may require the use of A.S.M.E. heat exchangers usedin pool heaters. The ASME copper finned tubes are thicker than the standard copper finned tubes used on residential pool heaters.
