This portable outdoor timer is specially designed to control the filter pump of a portable pool or spa. P1161 Specifications: Case - Outdoor grade plastic. 5" (12.7 cm) H x 5-1/2" (13.97 cm) W x 3-3/4" (9.52 cm) D. Cord - three-prong grounded plug, outdoor grade, 22" long. Timer - 24 hour with 23-1/2 hour maximum ON time. Two ON, two OFF trippers - standard. Dial will accept up to 12 sets of trippers.

I have a 1 1/2 HP Hayward filter, I need a timer box that I can connect to it. Will this handle it or do you have another timer that might?

This will only accommodate up to 1.0 HP pump. If this is for an above ground pool pump then you could use the following timer SP1500FT http://www.inyopools.com/Products/02200022032590.htm

How dose this run your pump?

This timer is designed to operate an above ground pool pump which has standard 3 prong plug and is 1 HP or less. The timer plugs into a wall outlet and then the pump plugs into the timer, you set when the pump turns on and off through the timer dial on the front of the timer.
