How do I backwash my Hayward Vertical Grid DE filter?
Reply
When the filter pressure rises 8-10 PSI over the clean starting pressure, the filter must be backwashed. Turn off the pool pump. Rotate the multiport valve to backwash position or slide the slide valve up. When the pump is turned on, the dirty DE and water will flow out to waste. Once the water runs clear, turn off the pump. With a slide valve, push the handle down and start the pump. Once the pump is primed, add the required DE. If using a multiport valve, rotate the handle to rinse. Turn on the pump and let water flow for 20-30 seconds, cleaning out the plumbing lines. Turn off the pump and rotate the valve back to filter. Turn on the pump and once primed add required DE.

Will the filter vessel clamp provided for the current DE7220 DE Pro-Grid Filters work on the older DE7220 (S/N 107573) filters. Also has the following number in block near Model Number "330M33". Can Hayward provide legacy T-bolt (5/16" 24 tpi x 5 1/2" long SS material), associated sleeve nut, spring and washers for the older style clamp?
Hi. Yes, the Clamp Assembly Kit - DEX2421JKIT will work with the older DE7220 filter models. Unfortunately, they're unable to provide that bolt.

We would advise you would need to change the filter elements inside the unit you have.

(5 out of 5 stars) DE pool filter par excellence
Reviewed By: coolblue from Winter Springs, FL ()
I recently purchased a Hayward DE-3620 filter as a replacement for a 10-yr old Hayward DE-3600, and was initially most satisfied with the ability to directly install the new unit in place of the old one without having to make any adjustments whatsoever to the interface connections with the existing vari-flow valve and external piping. Upon first use, I found welcome improvements had been made to the ease of operating the air relief valve and to the pressure gage with a simple means for indicating changes in pressure from the initial setting and when filter cleaning is required. Having just encountered a particularly heavy accumulation of oak pollen and blosom debris that indicated a need to manually clean the filter elements (rather than the more usual backwash routine) I was most impressed with Hayward's changes to the design of the clamp ring and the relative ease and speed with which the top shell and the internal filter elements could be removed. I am pleased to see that Hayward has continued to improve their already great DE filter product line.

(4 out of 5 stars) Hayward filter

Pros: Great water clarity
Cons: High rate of media usage
The Hayward DE filter does a great job filtering the pool, the water is crystal clear. My only disappointment with the filter is that it does not have a bump feature like some other DE filters that I have had and seems to go through media quicker than my previous filters. The filter was very easy to install.
