What is the benefit of the clear solar blanket over the blue one?

First, the clear solar blanket is thicker than the blue; the clear is 12 mil thick while the blue is 8 mil. Secondly, the clear allows the sun to pass through the blanket thus heating the water better. The blue blanket tends to absorb the heat itself so the blanket gets hot, not the water. Lastly, the clear blanket has a 5 year warranty as opposed to the 3 year warranty for the blue.

Does the solar cover come with an overlap like a winter cover does?

No, the solar cover does not come with an overlap. A solar cover is designed to sit on top of the water's surface and fits on the inside perimeter of the pool wall.

Aside from the solar blanket, what do I need to install it on the pool?

Solar blankets are designed to sit on the surface of the water inside of the pool. The cover does not extend onto the top rails or pool deck. You will simply need the cover and a pair of scissors in case the cover needs to be trimmed to fit the inside perimeter of the pool.
