What is the benefit of the clear solar blanket over the blue one?

First, the clear solar blanket is thicker than the blue; the clear is 12 mil thick while the blue is 8 mil. Secondly, the clear allows the sun to pass through the blanket thus heating the water better. The blue blanket tends to absorb the heat itself so the blanket gets hot, not the water. Lastly, the clear blanket has a 5 year warranty as opposed to the 3 year warranty for the blue.

Does the solar cover come with an overlap like a winter cover does?

No, the solar cover does not come with an overlap. A solar cover is designed to sit on top of the water's surface and fits on the inside perimeter of the pool wall.

We've had our above ground 12 FT diameter pool for a couple of years and we've never been able to get the water warm enough for our Grand Daughters. Oh, they'd get in okay, but would soon be shivering from the cold water. We put this cover on and within 5 days the water was almost spa temperature. Our Grand Daughters can now play in our pool for hours without freezing.
