How To Set Up In Ground Pool Equipment - Part 0 - Overview

This guide shows you what's involved in setting up the equipment for a large and fairly elaborate pool system. It is intended to provide you with a menu of options you could select in designing or adding features to your own pool. This is a fairly broad subject, so the guide has been broken down into 6 parts as described briefly below. To access each of these parts simple click on the key provided at the end of each description.

Step 1

This is a picture of the pool we are featuring in this guide. It includes: 30,000 gallons of water that circulate through a large filter system every day, several water features with their own filtering system, two types of heaters, a fully automated chemical sensing and dispersing system, an extensive lighting system and a comprehensive control system.

Step 2

Part 1 - CIRCULATION - This picture shows the subset of pool equipment dedicated to filtering the water from both the spa and pool. This equipment consists of the circulation pump, a large filter and the valves and piping required to control the flow of water from and to the pool and spa. Step 3

Part 2 - WATER FEATURES - The water features include a Waterfall, two Bubblers set in the floor of a shallow sun shelf, and a set of four Laminars which project columns of water into the pool. The water features have their own filtering system separate for the main circulation system. Click here to access Part 2 - Features.

Step 4

Part 3 - HEATERS - This pool system has two types of heaters: a Heat Pump and a Propane Gas Heater. The Heat Pump is much more efficient and is operated as required to maintain a higher pool temperature. The Propane Gas Heater is used to raise the temperature of the Spa rapidly for short periods of time. The Propane Gas Regulator controls the flow of gas to the Propane Heater. Step 5

Part 4 - AUTOMATED CHEMICAL SYSTEMS - The two main pool chemicals, chlorine and pH acid, are automatically monitored and dispensed in this pool system as required. This pool has three chemical systems in conjunction with the main control system to automate this process: a chemical monitoring system, a salt chlorine generator and an acid tank and pump system. Part 5 - LIGHTING - All of the lights in and around the pool are controlled through the inside control panel. Lights are included around the perimeters of the pool and seating areas and color changing lights are incorporated in the pool and spa as well as the Waterfall, Bubblers and Laminars. Part 6 - CONTROL SYSTEM - This pool has a fully automated control system. With a push of a button on an inside control panel you can turn on the circulation pump, activate the Spa jets, operate any water feature, maintain your main pool chemicals, and turn on your pool lights.
