After 4 years, the top half of the housing on my filter has fine fiberglass hairs sticking out of the composite material. I presume this is from breakdown of the outer portion of the composite, due to exposure to the Sun. This makes the housing impossible to handle without getting the glass fibers stuck in your hands. Is there a recommended paint I can use on the exterior to protect it from further breakdown? Possibly Krylon Fusion, since it is made for use on plastics?

Eric O., I would recommend visiting your local paint store for recommendations on what type of paint to use if that's the direction you want to go, since we do not carry that type of paint.

We purchased this home with a pool in November 2015. Now I am getting the pool ready and it has a Purex/Pentair/Pac Fab CC420P filter system. I am experiencing "fiberglass itch" from the lid. If I rest my arm on it, then it gets all prickly, itch as if I've been working with fiberglass insulation. Is there any type of clear coat polyurethane or anything else to seal the exterior so as to avoid this itch?

Hi Jerry, We do not have anything specifically but you can check your local hardware store.

Do you have a complete, specific parts list of what is included in the package purchase? I understand top and bottom tank and pressure guage and four cartridges are included. What about the ring gasket, the bottom manifold and pipe connection, exterior clamp, etc ...?

I am just wondering whether something like this is crated in wood for shipping to prevent damage? What is the process if I receive it and it is damaged do I refuse it and send it back or contact you to resolve?
Best,
Tom

These are not crated when shipped. They are in the original box from the manufacturer. If the unit comes damaged then you would just need to take some picture and either refuse and call us or just call us so we can set up the carrier damage claim then set up a new order for you.

Hi Craig, so there are a number of variables to consider when sizing a pool filter. Here is a guide that we put together called "How To Size a Pool Filter" that should help with that.

If the cartridge filter is too large for the system (using a variable speed pump), e.g. a turnover at 4 hours rather than 8 hours,
is there any problem?

Hello Young, having an extra capacity filter is not an issue. Here is a guide that we put together that better explains called "Can a Filter Be Too Oversized?"

I currently have a Pentair DE filter with the inlet connect on the bottom and the outlet connect on top. It looks like this filter has the inlet on the top and the outlet on the bottom. Is this correct? There is not a ton of room around the current filter so I am just wondering whether I can replumb to match the change in the inlet and outlet pipe locations.
Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom. On the Pentair Clean & Clear Plus model CCP420, the water inlet is located on the TOP, the outlet is located on the BOTTOM. If you are removing a Pentair DE filter with Multiport this may open sufficient space for the installation of the CCP420.

I switched from a de filter, to a clean and clear ccp420. but the multi valve is now sending the water into the centre of the filter which should be the outlet. what would be the correct 2" multivalve to use now?
Reply
Good day, Les, the Pentair Pool Products Clean & Clear Plus 420 Cartridge Filter would not be installed with a valve. It would be just piped directly into the system. If you wanted to install a bypass valve before the inlet so you would be able to drain the pool.

Looking to change from DE to cartridge filtration. My current Jandy filter is DEV 60 square ft. Is it normal for the cartridge filters to be much larger in square footage than DE? I'm Looking at the Pentair 160301.
Reply
Hi David, how big is your pool and how often do you need to clean the filter? It is almost impossible to oversize a pool filter - the larger it is the less frequently you will have to clean it. Yes, the cartridge filters do have more square area than DE filters, but they generally have significantly better flow. We have an article on How To Size a Pool Filter buy the manual for your DEV60 filter says that it is designed to filter 43,200 gallons per 6 hours, so, looking at the specs, the EC-160301 might be a great replacement.
