How many hours per day should I run my pump?
Reply
There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

Does this work with any pool size and any type of filter?
I have 30,000 gallons with spa and DE filter

Hi, This pump can be used with most residential pool and filtration system. You will have to calculate the "feet of head" of your pool to make sure that it can produce the flow rate needed for your pool.

What pumps will this be a direct replacement for? I currently have a 1.5 hp superpump.

how do I open the basket for cleaning I tried to turn it to the left but it does not open

Hi. To remove the strainer cover you would turn it to the left. You may have to use a bit more force to get it but budge if it's the first time it's being opened.

Do you carry the wire terminal necessary to relocate the controller to the wall mount unit. The terminal wasn't included in the pump box or the wall mount package. All we received was the wire. Thank You

We apologize for the inconvenience, however, we have been unable to obtain that information from the manufacturer. We suggest calling them directly to see if you are able to find anything.

Hello, Do you have replacement parts available for this model? Specifically the union connections?

Hi. The Union Kit - SPX2700UNKIT which is used with this Max-Flo VS Variable Speed Pump is available.

I am looking to replace an existing constant speed pump that does not have a timer. Does the pump have a built in timer, so i can adjust how many hours a day it runs? We leave our pool open all year, does the pump have freeze protection so if the temperature drops below a setting it automatically turns on despite the run times?
What information do you need from the existing pump to determine its direct replacement?
Thanks!
Reply
Hi, David. Yes, this pump has a built-in programmable timer where you can adjust how many hours a day it runs. It also has a freeze protection feature. We will need the make and model of your existing pump to determine if this will be a direct replacement.

Current pump is a Hayward model# SP3010X15AZ.

David, Your options are the TriStar VS Pump - W3SP3202VSP, Power Defender 165 Variable Speed Pool Pump - PD-VSC165 and or the Infinium ECO V-150 - 243150A-VS.

Hi David here is the link for your replacement pump W3SP3010X15AZ Hayward Super Pump 1.5 HP which you will require. If you are in California then state law requires a Variable Speed Pump and I would Suggest the 1.65 HP Waterway Variable Speed Pump

I have a Hayward hydromax II pump. What pump would best replace it. Thank you, john
PS I also was wondering my pump seems to be sucking water well, but have no output pressure. I took pump apart everything looked fine inside. Kinda bewildered. Thanks again!
Hi John, there could be a few reasons that can cause priming issues. Here is a guide that we put together called "How To Determine Why a Pool Pump Won't Prime" that should assist.

I have a 15 year old in ground spa jet pump that I would like to replace because my jets are really weak. It’s a 1600 gallon spa. What is a good pump to use

Hi, Joe. We will need additional info including the current make and model of the pump, the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of the spa, and the CFM if a blower is used, and the jet model(s) to determine what pump you will need.

Hello - I have a 6 year old Hayward Super Pump model# SP2607X10 1hp with 2" piping which is overheating. Would this be a good pump to switch to? I think the piping and distance between suction and pressure pipes would be good but I don't know about power. Thanks!
Reply
Hi Aaron, I would suggest this Hayward Super Pump Variable Speed Pump instead as it will be a drop-in replacement for your current pump, making the installation much easier.
Reply
How does that make it an easier drop-in replacement? The old one is a 120v and the new one is 230v so I need to redo the wiring and breaker.
Reply
It would be easier from the plumbing side of things and the plumbing ports on the pump are in the same location so no re-plumbing would be required.
Reply
My worry is the suction elbow is right next to the pump (1" instead of 10") no matter which pump I put in. Right now my pump is overheating and if I drop a $1k pump in, won't it just do the same?
Reply
Hi Aaron yes you re-plumb and give yourself at least 10" going directly into the pump, so if that is the case than the Max-Flo VS would be fine if you are going to be re-plumbing anyway.
Reply
We live in an area where we can't get anyone to come out for 5 months so replumbing is not an option and I don't know if this overheating pump will last that long. Is my best option to buy a single speed 1hp pump until I can get it replumbed? Thanks.
Reply
If re-plumbing is not an option then I would go back to a single speed Hayward Super Pump or just replace the motor and shaft seal, you can find these parts here Hayward Super Pump Parts Breakdown

I am looking to replace an aging Hayward TriStar High Performance Pump model #SP3207Z1BER with a variable speed pump.
Would this be a suitable replacement?
Reply
Hi Gary, Yes this is a suitable Variable Speed replacement for a #SP3207Z1BER. Please note that the plumbing ports on the pump are not in the exact same location so you may have some re-plumbing.
Reply
Just out of curiosity which single speed pump would be comparable and be a straight drop in fit?
Reply
Hi Gary, This 1 HP Max Rate Tri Star Pump would be the drop in replacement. The flow rate on the 1 HP Max Rate pump is identical to that of your 3/4 HP Full Rate pump.

Is this a good replacement for a Sta – Rite Dura – Glas P2RA5F ? I have 2 inch plumbing. Thanks

Hello Brent. The Hayward Pool Products Max-Flo VS 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pump W3SP2303VSP is a good replacement for the Pentair/Sta-Rite Dura Glas 1.5 HP P2RA5F. The port size in the Max-Flo VS is 1.5". Hayward Max-Flo VS Variable Speed Pump - SP2303VSP - W3SP2303VSP To facilitate installation, the Hayward Max-Flo Union Connector Kit Hayward MaxFlo II Pool Pump Union Connector Kit SPX2700UNKIT or the CMP 1.5" MIP/2" Socket Union would be beneficial.

Hello James. The Hayward TriStar VS Pump 2.7 HP - W3SP3206VSP or the Hayward TriStar VS Pump - W3SP3202VSP are compatible replacements for the Hayward EcoStar SP3400VSP Pool Pump. Does this pump have easy start/stop ability, without messing up programming, for doing weekly maintenance (backway & rinse)?
Reply
Hello David. Attached please find a copy of the MaxFlo VS Owner's Manual. Please reference Section 6.3, User Interface Summary, page 20. The Stop/Resume button stops the pump without disrupting the pump's programming until the button is pressed a second time, restarting the pump.
