Is the Pureline Prime Variable Speed Pool Pump 1.65 HP a direct replacement for my existing Hayward Super Pump Model SP3010X15AZ?
Also, cant the controller on the Pureline Variable Speed Pump be remotely located?
Reply
The PureLine Prime would not be a direct replacement to the Super II as the plumbing ports are in a slight different location meaning you might have some minor re-plumbing. The controller on this variable speed pump cannot be mounted remotely, it is affixed directly to the motor. This pump would be a great option as a replacement for the Hayward Super II.

Is this energy star qualified pump?

This is not Energy Star Qualified I would suggest the Speck EcoMV Variable Speed Pump which is Energy Star Rated.

I tested this pump 6+ months before submitting this review.
Overall, I am pleased with the product and would recommend it to others if seeking a replacement or as a first pump. My pool is a 10K gallon inground fiberglass unit with 2-inch PVC piping, no lengths exceeding 50 feet in total length. This 1.65 HP Pureline replaced a 1.5HP Jandy single speed and pumping performance is equal to or better based on sand filter pressure at similar RPMs.
The variable speed capability is a nice feature and allows a homeowner to customize operation based on the seasons and situations (e.g., evening pool party – normally off). I operate the pump for 10 hours total run time each day in warm weather, 2 hours at near maximum RPM for initial start and skimmer cleanup, followed by 8 hours at mid-range RPM for circulating through the sand filter and chlorine production with the salt cell.
The automatic low RPM operation at 39 degrees F is perhaps the second-best feature that eases your stress and labor when cold weather hits. The pump controller keypad is easy to use however, I still need to refer to the owner’s manual when making changes because some steps are not intuitive. I created a brief written procedure for my wife to place the pump in standby and return to operation when backwashing and rinsing the sand filter.
She added this to her smartphone and doesn’t need my assistance now for these routine evolutions. Installation of the pump required new anchor bolts in the concrete pad, minor wiring changes (i.e., terminal ends, length), and new PVC pipe configuration for the discharge to the sand filter.
If you have average weekend warrior skills as a homeowner, you can do this yourself. Make absolutely sure all power to existing wiring is dead before starting the job and expect to visit the hardware store more than once as you get smarter.

Cut old pump out to replace 1.5" piping with 2" from two way diverter to multiport valve.
Hard Plumbed new 2" piping using threaded fittings while saving provided unions for future pump relocation to accommodate SWG (not advised - use provided unions with gaskets to prevent leaks).
Ran new watertight flex conduit and 12ga THHN wiring and 8ga bonding wire to accommodate future pump relocation for SWG. Replaced existing breaker with GFI breaker and wired pump.
Filled skimmer and started up. Ran flawlessly. Be prepared for some surging as pump primes and changes speeds.
Noted slow leak at outlet connection due to use of 2" threaded PVC fitting rather than supplied union. Replaced with supplied union and no leaks.

I purchased this pump to replace my Hayward 1hp Super pump for my 25,000 gal pool. The costs of running the single speed pump for 8 - 10 hours a day from June to Mid September was killing me. The initial cost of a variable speed pump was putting me off until I found Inyo Pools and the PureLine Variable speed pump. With the Electric company rebate of $200 and reduced electrical costs, this pump has easily paid for itself in less than a year.
Installation was a breeze since it fits into the footprint of the Haywards Super Pump. All I needed to do was:
1:Uninstall the Hayward Super Pump
a: turn off the power to the pump
b: unhook the electoral wires from the super pump
c: Unbolt the super pump from the concrete footing
d: Unscrew the PVC fittings from the super pump
e: remove the super pump
2: Install the new PureLine Variable Speed pump
a: Bolt the PureLine pump to the concrete footing
b: Attach the PVC fittings to the Pureline pump
c: Hook up the electrical wires to the Pureline pump
d: Fill the skimmer basket with water
e: turn on power to the PureLine Pump
f: Push the start button on the PureLine pump
g: Program the pump per the directions
3: SAVE MONEY
That's it. I am no handyman. Although I can do minor repairs this was one of the easiest jobs I ever did.

I removed the old pump, replaced with the variable speed pump. The wiring was tricky; the two holes for wiring on my old pump didn't fit the new pump setup. Luckily there were three holes for wiring on the new pump so I made an adjustment that works fine. The new pump was about one inch lower than the old pump, so I needed to raise the new pump up a little. Twenty minutes total time for the replacement.

(5 out of 5 stars) Nice pump!

Pros: smooth, quiet, easy DIY connection
Cons: none, so far...
I replaced an older Hayward SP with this one. I had replaced the old induction motor with a Marathon Impower motor, but the motor electronics failed and parts are not available. Since I was already sold on the power savings of the high efficiency motors, I was not going back. This pump and motor is impressive right out of the box. The connections were easy and it runs smooth and quiet. I hooked it up to my old trusty Intermatic timer which also turns my salt system on at the same time. With more RPM choices than my old motor, I will probable save even more. Programming is actually easier than the manual suggests. BUT... the best part of the deal was the customer service! Thanks!

It would have been so much easier to install if the openings were 1½ inches, or if 2-1½ reducers were included. Those connections that did come with it were useless and only confused me more. All that aside we did install it ourselves. It works great. We have a 16x32 foot pool, approx 25 thousand gallons. I like being able to present the start time and the duration of the pump. Now it's just a matter of how long it lasts. The price is fantastic and the delivery was fast.

(5 out of 5 stars) So far I Love It
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
Just got it running yesterday so not sure about quality and how long it will last. I replaced a 5 year old Super Pump 2 that was over sized. First thing I noticed was the Pureline is a lot quieter. Thought it was broke when it first spun up :) Next, my pump pressure went from 15 to 8 but the spa waterfall still works great and I am running it around 3100 RPM's but will probably drop it more and I experiment. Wish it had a clock but since my speed won't vary a lot not that big of a deal, now I drop it a few hundred RPM's at night. Last thing is it runs cool. My old pump motor was hot to the touch this one has a fan and seems almost cold, which is a good thing. I am debating adding a cover over the pump to help keep water sun and junk from hitting it. Little worried about the panel even though it's under a strong metal cover.

Replaced a Hayward SP2600VS with the PL2605. I can tell you the the ports lined up with my existing piping perfectly. I took a chance and bought reducers 2" x 1 1/2 bung type and was able to tighten everything enough and reconnect without cutting one piece of PVC. A second observation was that the 2605 was noticeably heavier than the Hayward on the motor side. Just going to call that a plus. The Hayward was installed in Jan 2014 by the previous homeowner who left us all the documentation and it almost made it 5 years so I'm not knocking the brand and have no knowledge of how the new Hayward or the others are built. But, I would recommend giving this line a try and save yourself some money. They ship fast and being a Florida resident I had mine in two days. P.S I have not tried to program anything yet. I was so happy the install went so well I primed it and pushed start. It primed and let it go to work using the built in programming for now.
