I have a pool that is about 10,000 gallons but I am thinking of buying a salt chlorine system for pools up to 20,000 gallons. Would the larger unit be a problem?
Reply
It is not a problem to oversize a salt system. It would take the larger unit less time to produce the necessary chlorine so it is actually more efficient. When the pool volume is very close to the capacity of the salt chlorine generator (for example, the pool is 18,000 gallons and the generator is rated at a maximum of 20,000 gallons), we would recommend going up to the next size generator.

Is the salt included with the salt chlorine generator?
Reply
No, salt is not included. You would purchase the salt locally and the quantity will depend upon the number of gallons of water in your pool. Use a salt that is at least 99.8% pure NaCl. The preferred salt is evaporated, granulated, food quality, and NON-iodized. Avoid using salt with anti-caking agents like sodium ferrocyanide, also known as yellow YPS (prussiate of soda). These cause some discoloration of fittings and pool surface finishes. DO NOT use calcium chloride.

I'm getting ready to start up my salt water pool. What chemicals do I need?
Reply
If you are staring up the pool, you will want to top off your pool water level before you add any chemicals. To keep a salt water pool chlorinated, the salt range should be about 3200-3500ppm (you can find it in the owners manual). You should not have to add a significant amount of salt to your pool each year unless the pool has lost a significant amount of water due to draining or leakage. When you open your salt water pool, you will want to check the stabilizer, total chlorine, free chlorine, pH, phosphates, salt and alkalinity. The main chemical you will want to pay attention to is the conditioner/stabilizer. The conditioner is sunscreen for the chlorine your system will be making. Simply put, no conditioner = no chlorine. Two additional products that I would recommend are Salt Water Magic & PHOSFREE

I have a salt system on my pool. The pool is constantly turning green. The pool maintenance company we use shocks the pool every time it turns green but there seems to be no permanent solution. Could there possibly be something wrong with our chlorination system?
Reply
Without knowing more about the salt system and the water chemistry, it will be difficult to trouble shoot. I would recommend having the pool water tested and make any necessary adjustments. Once that is done, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer to trouble shoot the salt system to verify that it is working correctly.

I have metal stains in my swimming pool. How can I get rid of them?
Reply
To remove the stains, you can use this product. To prevent them you can use metal free.

Will the water taste salty?
Reply
Generally you should not be able to taste any salt in the pool because the level of salt in the water is so low, however some people with sensitive palates might detect a small amount of salt.

Will the Aqua Rite work on a portable spa?
Reply
The Aqua Rite chlorinator is specifically designed for use with in-ground pools, and will not work with portable spas or hot tubs due to its high output.
Reply
What is “SUPER CHLORINATE”?
Reply
The unit will run in 2 separate polarities and continually switch sides as long as the pump continues to run. The desired output percentage dial will tell the chlorinator how long to generate in each polarity, SUPER CHLORINATE simply tells the unit to ignore the dial setting for 24 hours and generate chlorine at 100% of its capability.

Is the flow switch direction important?
Reply
Yes. The flow switch must be mounted so the arrows on the switch it’s self go in the direction of flow. Also, the flow switch requires 12 inches of straight pipe before the water enters the part to ensure there is no turbulence inside the switch compartment causing the switch to display “no flow” in error. Also, the switch needs to see at least 11GPM of flow to properly close the switch.

how much salt do start with originally 15000 gallon pool;
Reply
Derral, Your pool salt level needs to be about 3000 ppm in order for this salt system to work effectively. I would recommend getting your pool water tested before adding salt so you know how much salt to add.

my pool is 11000 gallons but local pool supply companies say to buy the larger 40000 gal Hayward . is this just for a bigger sale or is there a valid reason?
Reply
Hi Mike, The larger system will produce more chlorine which is helpful if you get into a situation where you have a big algae bloom. Normally if you oversize the salt chlorine generator you will run the system for shorter periods of time meaning your cell will last quite a bit longer. So I think there are some valid points with upgrading to a larger system, however this system would also work just fine.

approximately how often should this be replaced if it is cleaned every 6 months?
Reply
Hello, the Aquarite cell should be checked every 3-4 months and cleaned as needed. There is a internal timer that will notify you when to check the cell also.

Hi,
We are building a swim spa that will have approximately 4,000 gallons. Would there be any problem installing this unit? Anything special we ought to do for smaller volume of water?
Thanks
Reply
Hi John, This unit can be installed on you Swim Spa, you will have to run it on a lower generating setting so that it does not over chlorinate the pool.
Reply
can you install this unit between the pump and filter. there"s isn"t much room to install it the required 12inches to the return line
Reply
It is recommended to install the salt cell after the filter on the return line back to your pool.

Does colorin generator balance all parameter of pool water like (free colorin&ph&stabilizer&total alkalinity) or no? if no do we need an ph perfect for
our pool or no? and have can we balance our pool?
Reply
Hello Hamed, This AQR3 will only take care of you chlorine level, your PH is either increase by PH increaser (sodium carbonate) or decrease with PH decreaser (Dry acid). For Alkalinity it's Pool Alkalinity Increaser (Sodium Bicarbonate). For Stabilizer (cyanuric acid), make sure to test your water either with a test kit or at your local pool store to make sure everything is balanced and level.

My system doesn't stay on all the time it comes on and generates then will kick off
Reply
Good Afternoon, depending on the size of your pool and the generating setting. This could cut off also has temp control and will not need to generate at low temps.

My AquaRite Chlorinator panel POWER light is on. When I switch to Auto, I do not hear the click relay and the generating LIGHT never comes on.
I can read the Rev software, the percentage of chlorination and the Voltage = 32.5
Chlorine level reads 0 (even thought I had my salt level tested and it is 3200 ppm).
Is this my circuit board?

Hi, John. Get the Cell Amp, if it is between 1.3-4.5 amp, the board will be the issue.

Can we replace a pentair 15 system with this unit, would there be any pitfalls?
Reply
This salt system has very similar chlorinate generating to the Intellichlor model. Different design but same goal. Just make sure you have extra capacity on the salt system as far as gallons are concerned. I usually recommend 5-10 thousand gallons of extra capacity.

We just redid our pool. About 13k gl marcasite finish. We have the t-15 salt system. Well we got it to read 3000 on the salt and it all looked great had the water tested too. But now it doesent seem to be generating anymore. The check salt level and check cell lights are on steady and the instant salt and average salt reading are zero. Today the pool temp is 67. Tried resetting. It just won’t generate . The light doesn’t stay on.
System is about 2.5 years old

Good day, the AQR3 cell life is about 7000 hours which would be around 3 years of running the unit. I would suggest taking the cell into a pool store and having them run a cell test to see if the unit is still working.
Reply
Well to follow up we did take it on and it wasn’t generating since it has a 4 year warranty on it we got a new cell. It now ran for 2 days . All seems ok though last night about 3-4 hours after the pump shit down the salt system read hot and lights were flashing. By this morning it read normally. Thought the instant salt lever still says 000. Don’t know if that means anything though the average is 3300

Hi, Bobby. The system displaying HOT when the pump is off is unusual. I would recommend getting the cell check or tested since the instant salinity level is showing all zeros.

I have the Aqua rite 20 with T-cell 5. Would this AQR3 unit be a good replacement for it or should I go with the AQR-9. My unit is 13 years old and I have replaced the cell 3 times. The pool has 9 thousand gallons of water and I just installed the Century variable speed motor. I'm thinking of replacing the control box and the t-cell.
Reply
It is not a problem to go to a larger size salt system. It would take the larger unit less time to produce the necessary chlorine so it is actually more efficient. When the pool volume is very close to the capacity of the salt chlorine generator. For your example, the pool is 9,000 gallons and the AQ3 is rated at a maximum of 15,000 gallons. The AQR9 is rated up to 25K. In other words, the larger cell should just last longer. The control unit will work on either cell. So if you want to get the AQR9 instead of the AQR3 you do not need to update the control box. You will just need to program your box to tell it you have a different cell.

replacing my old salt system with the same one. the old one was rated for 15000 GAL pool which mine is 15000 my question is
should I replace with a larger unit
Reply
Hello Narciso, essentially you are using your salt system at max capacity to work on your swimming pool so in essence you could potentially get a longer lifetime out of a salt system that is rated for a higher pool gallons max capacity.
