For More Pool Chemicals
How do I lower my total alkalinity level in my swimming pool?
Reply
You can either partially drain and refill the pool or you can use muriatic or dry acid. Both acids will also lower the pH so you will have to monitor and adjust the level accordingly.

My pool water is very cloudy and has algae in it so we super shocked it. Now the chlorine and pH are really high. I want to put a pH decreaser in it but we are having people over? Is it safe to swim or do we have to wait?
Reply
If the pH and chlorine are high, I would not recommend anyone swimming in the pool. The quickest way to lower both chemicals without adding more chemicals (More chemicals may add to the cloudiness) is to partially drain and refill the pool. You will want to keep everyone out of the pool until the levels are back within range.

What causes scale build up in a pool? My pool walls always seem to have a build up along the water line.
Reply
Scale along the water line can be caused by high pH, alkalinity and calcium levels. I would recommend having your pool water tested and adjust the levels as needed.
