I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!
Reply
You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

My pump is not priming even after cleaning impeller. Will purchasing this kit aid in fixing that problem?
Reply
The seal kit can help with loss of prime. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem. The loss of prime could be from an air leak at the valves or plumbing in front of the pump.

Salt water and regular seals: what's the difference other than price? Could this be why the bearings in my existing motor failed? Is there a way to tell if the existing seals in my other motors are salt water or not? If they are not should I replace them on the working motors? Can I get a kit containing the salt water parts? Do I need to? Why isn't this more prominently advertised? I just about bought the kit and if I hadn't read the comments maybe it would have been a big mistake?
Reply
Michael, The only difference between the standard and salt water kits is that the shaft seal is made with VITON instead of standard rubber. Viton can withstand harsh minerals better than the standard rubber seals. There is no saltwater tune up kit for the challenger yet, but we do offer the salt water shaft seal. The bearings on your motor failed more than likely because your shaft seal did at one point. These salt water seals are so new manufacturer's don't even offer them yet.

will this kit fit my Centurion (A.O.smith) 1 HP B853 model?
Reply
As long as you have the Challenger pump then yet this kit will work. Please keep in mind that some of the Challenger models have the housing and diffuser gaskets squared from a cross section perspective and those style gaskets are sold separately.

How do identify if my challenger motor is greater than 3hp. The labels are a little bleached. My pool is small and only 6ft deep so I doubt I have a larger engine. Not sure. Thanks
Reply
Hello Eric, There is a minuscule chance that your motor on your pool, less than 40,000 gallons is 3HP or greater. There is no real way to determine the size of your motor from a label that has faded or by visually inspecting the motor. You can take dimensions of your pool, filter size, pipe size, and attached features (spa, solar panels) and factor that information into determining a motor size. We would also recommend changing the seal on your pump when changing the motor.

Hi. I have a Pentair-Model # CHII-N1-1A/346204. It was making a really loud noise, so I replaced the bearings. It is really quiet now, but now it is leaking a lot of water. What seals would I need to replace. The large seal is square. Thank you for your help.

Hi Renee, We would suggest this tune up kit and replace all the gaskets and o-rings that are included in this kit. It is most like the spring loaded shaft seal that is causing the problem.

Hi, The bearings are going bad in the motor, you can either replace the bearings or the entire motor.

I have a 2hp pac fab pump, I can not get the bubbles out of the strainer so the filter gets air in it , I can not get a good suction and do not have very good volume of water . I replaced impeller and defuser but not much help new motor .Pump is 20 years old.

I apologize for the delayed response. You have an air leak somewhere whether it's the seals in the pump that are bad or a leak in the plumbing.

I have a 2hp PAC -FAB pump is 20 yrs.old , I replaced thr motor 3 yrs. ago put new impellar in this year can not find any leaks all lines are clear . It will not pull water from skimmer that is fartherish from pump can not get good volumn at discharge . Strainer will not completely fill get air in filter .

It might be the wrong impeller that you have. They have a medium head and high head impeller. If you happened to purchase the wrong impeller to match up with your diffuser and motor than that would be the problem with why it's not pulling the water.

Hi, Douglas. It depends on what is causing the pump not to pump water. Once you determine the cause we can assist you with resolving the issue. You can use our 8 Answers to “Why Is My Pool Pump Not Working?” Blog to assist you with figuring out why your pump isn't working.

What I can read is PAC-FAB 2 HP and then ABEL 35-546. On the inside, on the inside of the back plate there are numbers: 35-5303 (3 inserts) and 35-5497 (6 inserts). Question: what GO-Kit do I get? It was attached to a 2 HP motor.

I have the PAC FAB Challenger. Do I need GoKit 5 or GoKit 73?

They GOKIT73 has the squared off diffuser gasket at the cross section and the GOKIT5 has all o rings and gaskets that are rounded at the cross section. Technically there are two Challenger kits.

I think i need a repair kit for:
main pump impeller: Challenger Pentair 2 hp chii n2a, 1-07-f05 / 34-6201
booster: Century Centurion LA01N, Serial 1-12-G05
Main pump impeller sounds gravelly (about 4 cycles/sec - not continuous); but has good suction and pressure (I think the motor is ok).
Booster pump started whining recently, continuous. Seems like this is the motor (maybe a bearing?).
Would appreciate your help. Thanks,

I recommend opening up your Challenger to take a look at the impeller, it does not sounds like an impeller problem it sounds like the motor bearings and on your booster pump you will need to replace the motor and shaft seal which are part number 3285-81 and 5250-106. If you find the impeller is fice you will also need to replace the motor and shaft seal on your Challenger which are part numbers B855 and 354545S.

Will this kit work for CFII N1 2A/343240 Pentair 2 H.P. motor? and the pump housing gasket is round but flat edged with a bevel in the center

Hi, Kevin. This kit is not compatible with the CFII N1 2A/343240 model pump. The CF Series pump requires the square gasket Diffuser Gasket - 355030 and Housing Gasket - 355329.

Want to buy a go-kit for B855 motor (replacing Pentair Challenger High Performance motor CHII-N1-2A 346201 Uprated) It seems to be the Pentair Pac Fab Challenger GO-KIT-5.
But below is the complain on GO-KIT5 "... not for Challenger!, The outer cover seal in this kit is NOT a replacement for a Pentair Challenger! The gasket provided is a ROUND cross section and the Challenger requires a SQUARE cross section...." Therefore I need your confirmation on whether this kit is viable.

Hi, George. This tune up kit GOKIT5 is for the Challenger "CH" Series pump which is what you have.

Hello Douglas- There is not a kit for the CF series pump. The difference is the CF Series pump requires the square gasket Diffuser Gasket - 355030 and Housing Gasket - 355329. You would use the same shaft seal and lid o-ring as the CH Series.

Hi, John. Shaft Seals are not identified by the motor, only by the pump housing model or name. Check out our How To Find The Correct Pool Pump Shaft Seal For Your Pool Blog.

I have a Challenger CF II N1 1A MED HD pump that has developed a leak (and a loud whine). What gaskets and seals are appropriate for this model?
The label on the attached strainer says P/N 343233. 35-5300 is molded into the body
Hi, John. A loud whine indicates that the motor bearings are failing. Replacing the seals will not resolve this matter, the motor will need to be replaced. Your options are the B2853 or PL2853. The seals are all listed on the Pentair / Pac Fab Challenger CH / CF Series Parts Diagram page.

I am unable to see any kind of model # on my Pac-Fab pump. Maybe it’s an old one? See attached photo. Will the GOKIT5 work on this pump?
Hi Travis, this kit is correct as long as you have a CH-series Pac Fab/Pentair Challenger pool pump. If that is not legible on a label then you can confirm that by getting the impeller or diffuser part number marked on those and looking up what series Challenger those are used on. It's either a CH or CF series. You can also provide that to us using our live online chat feature as well.

Will this work on my setup? Casing says PM 35-5305 and the motor is an A.O. Smith Century Centurian B2738 2HP
Hi Jeff, in order to confirm the correct tune-up kit for your pump we will need to know whether you have the Pentair/Pac Fab Challenger CH or CF series pool pump. There should be a label on the font pump housing wet end that the motor attaches to but if not, you can locate a part number of the impeller or diffuser which will also serve as a clue.

Hi, Just wondering which GOKIT I need for my very old Pac Fab Pool housing/pump? The sticker is hardly there anymore but I included a picture. The diffuser has a part number of 355029 and the impeller has a number of 35-5067. The pump backing plate is part number 35-5303.
Hi, found my pool low so I went around looking for leaks. Noticed my pump was leaking out the bottom, I'm assuming it's the shaft seal. Pump model number is B2748. So making sure I'm ordering the correct part. Thank you!
Hello Mark, there are various seal/ go kits that can be used with pumps that use this motor. Here is our "Finding the Tune-Up Kit for Your Pool Pump" guide that should assist you with locating that.
