Hi Paul, You would maintain your pool the same as you would a traditional pool. We put together a Video on How to Maintain a Salt Pool which you should find helpful. Yes you still adjust the pH normally salt systems want to make your pH raise a little so you would be using a bit of muriatic acid to reduce pH. Yes stabilizer is still required to be maintained at normal levels.

Hi Wendel, You could use the Crystal Pure PL7701 on a 21,000 gallon pool, but my suggestion would be to go up to the PL7100 40,000 Gallon Crystal Pure Salt System. By going with the larger system you will be generating more chlorine meaning that you can run the system for shorter periods of time resulting in longer time between needing to replace your salt cell. Also if for whatever reason you get an algae bloom the larger system can be dialed up to create a larger amount of chlorine. Hello Larry- Yes the Pool Salt System 20,000 Gallons PL7701 will work for your size pool. The only thing to consider would be the salt will corrode any metal parts you have on your pool, which would void any warranty on the pool as well unless it is fully resin.

I have the original 20K version, not this newest model, and I just have had it running a few days, I have it set to auto and it indicates a good level of salt and shows a voltage indicating it is generating chlorine, however I do notice it seems to cycle down to 0 voltage at some times, even when the LED is still set to generating chlorine. Is this unit supposed to generate chlorine 100% of the powered on and switched on time or is this the correct operation where it switches between modes ?

Hello Justin- The cell voltage would vary, depending on the setting that it is on. When you have your unit set to 50% it will operate 50% of the time that the unit is on, if it is set to 100% it would operate 100% of the time. If it is fluctuation while on full power that may be something to keep an eye on.

I currently have a Hayward Aqua-Rite system with a T15 cell and it's on its last legs. Will this system work as a replacement? (Do I have to deal with a different pipe size for the cell and what about the flow switch which is a separate element in my current system.) Thanks.

Hi Ray, This would be the same set up as the AquaRite same pipe size and same flow switch. If you have a T-15 then I would suggest the CrystalPure PL7700 40,000 Gallon Salt System as this will be more comparable to your current system.

My salt level is 3200 ppm but my panel reads o ppm and yet there is no low salt indicator lighting up. Also, there are 0 amps per the panel yet the panel says it is generating chlorine ????? This is the second panel and cell I have installed in the last week. I have not switched out the floe switch.

You do not need to drain your pool. Install the board and connect to your breaker, install salt cell in line with your plumbing, and add correct amount of salt to your pool, about 40 pounds of salt per 2,000 gallons.

If you have a standard heat exchanger in your Hayward heater the salt will corrode the heat exchanger making it leak, that is the most common thing that happens. You would want a heater with a cupro-nickel heat exchanger because it is made for saltwater pools and will not corrode.

I have a 28' round by 52" dug out 1' in middle estimated about 20,000 gal trees all around. I use solar heat to keep the water about 82 84 degrees last couple of years I have had trouble opening and had to add copious amounts of calcium, ph up and chlorine in addition to algaecide and flocking agents. once operating I use 2 3" hth tabs every other day and shock at least once a week 2lbs. Hi Hank, Thanks for the questions! My suggestion would be the 40,000 gallon unit over the 20,000 gallon unit as the 40,000 gallon unit has the ability to produce double the amount of chlorine. On 100% output the 40,000 gallon will produce 2.1 lbs. of chlorine vs. the 20,000 Gallon producing 1.05 lbs. The cell normally lasts 3-5 years and you will need salt for start up and you will need to keep your other chemicals like pH, CYA and alkalinity balanced. I have found the larger unit to be nice since you have the ability to really crank up the chlorine if needed but for the vast majority of the time you will be on a much lower setting then the 20K resulting in much longer cell life.

However, I would check to make sure that your pump is strong enough to operate the chlorinator in the vertical position. Hi Laz, The chlorine production is measured in pounds (lbs.) of chlorine per day. And here are those ratings for each unit PL7701 (20,000 gallon unit) = 1.06 lbs. chlorine per day, PL7700 (40,000 gallon unit) = 2.1 lbs. chlorine per day and PL7703 (60,000 gallon unit) = 3.18 lbs. chlorine per day.

Hi James, This system would tie into your standard pool timer and works as follows. The crystal pure comes with a flow switch so the salt system is only producing chlorine when water is passing through the flow switch (i.e. pump is on). You then set the output of chlorine on the power supply so if you set the output to 50% then the Crystal Pure will be producing chlorine for 50% of the time that the pump is turned on (i.e. 30 minutes for every hour the pump is on). Hi Kenneth, for the install of the cell and the flow switch you would need to have at least a 12" (25cm) straight pipe run before (upstream) the flow switch. If the switch is plumbed after the cell, the cell can by counted as the 12" (25cm) of straight pipe and at least 16" for the cell to be installed.

Hi Michel, When in use the salt cell is generating chlorine, the average amperage is between 21 and 27 amps, and the voltage typically falls between 2.5 and 7.8 volts. Wattage can be found by multiplying these two values, so on the low end you're looking at about 53 watts and on the high end you're looking at about 211 watts. These number vary because if you run the system at 10% chlorine output the wattage is lower vs. running the system at 100% chlorine output. Based on the #'s above if you ran the system 4 hours per day you are looking between .21 to .84 killowatt hours per day. I hope this helps.

The system is complete, you may have a few installation components based on how you decide to install the system. If you hard wire the system then you will have the cost of the raw wire which is too much. If you wire a 3 prong 115V plug to the system so that you can plug directly into a standard 115V wall outlet then you will need this 115V 3 Prong Plug and Cord you will remove the spade connectors on this cord to expose the raw wire. The cable from the salt cell to power center is included. For your size pool, you will need 300 lbs. of salt at start up. Pool salt comes in 40 Lbs. bags and is about $10 per bag so you would be looking at 8 bags of salt or $80 in salt. Salt does not evaporate out of the water so you typically just have the expense of the salt at startup.

Hi Louis, Yes this would be a great replacement for your Auto Pilot DIG-220. If your pocketbook can afford it then the PL7700 40,000 Gallon System would be even better as you can really crank that system up to produce more chlorine if need be, also you will get much longer life out of the 40,000 gallon cell as you would be running that system at a much lower % output.

The Heavy duty is the same system as the standard but with two main advantages...1. The warranty is 3 year on the Heavy Duty Vs. 2 years on the Standard 2. The cell life on the Heavy Duty is 10,000 hrs. Vs. 7,000 hrs. on the Standard. The extra lifespan on the heavy duty salt cell is due to more Ruthenium coating on the cell plates. Cell life works as follows, say you run your pump 8 hours per day and you set your Crystal Pure to 50% chlorine output then the cell will be running for 4 hrs. per day, thus using up 4 hrs. of cell life per day in this example.

Ultimately it does depend on pool owner preference but the reasons why some prefer salt systems over chlorine is fewer hands-on maintenance since the system generates chlorine on its own. Also if you leave home for an extended period of time beings days to weeks the system if functioning well will keep the pool chlorinated and lastly many pool owners prefer the feel of salt water to their skin.

Hi, Chris. The cell total operating hours and warranty length are the differences between the LT, Standard, and Heavy Duty systems. The LT = 5,000 hours / 1 Year, Standard = 7,000 / 2 Year and Heavy Duty = 10,000 hours / 3 Year. The 20,000 systems will be too small for your size pool. I would recommend the 40,000 systems.

Hello, You will have to re-plumb with the pureline system because it is not the same brand. These newer units can last just as long if not longer if you take care of the unit (bi-monthly cleaning and recalibrating). These units have a dial for the output of chlorine such as 10%,20%,30% etc. It will let you know if there is low salt, high salt, salt level and other codes on there.

I have a Compupool system and I have had trouble with the it and I have wrote many emails to the company but had no replies and I am thinking to changing to yourselves. The Compupool system is fitted between the filter and the heat exchanger, there is no room in the pipe work to fit it after the heat exchanger would your system be OK if fitted in the same place as the Compupool system.

Hi Ken, Compupool has gone out of business so that is probably the reason for no replies. Our PureLine Crystal Pure System can go between the filter and heat exchanger. However, with any salt system, this is not ideal since you will be sending a high concentration of Chlorine to the heat exchanger which could cause the heat exchanger to corrode prematurely.

I have a Jandy AquaPure 700 currently installed, will this fit my current setup? I can't find the length/dimmensions for the salt cell to tell if I will have to alter my current setup. The current salt cell appears to be ~12" in length. Any help is appreciated.
These systems are not drop in replacements for this model Jandy so you would need to adjust your current plumbing.

Hi, BH. This 20,000 system will be adequate for your pool, however, the 40,000 system will operate more efficiently and you will get a longer life out of the cell.

Planning on installing your PL7701 Salt System on a 24' x 54" round above ground pool.
In a previous question you stated the system used 211 Watts. Is this 211 Wattage @ 115VAC?
What is the system rated amperage?

The PL7701 20,000 gallon salt system has a max power around 150W where the 40,000 gallon salt system has a max power around 211W. This is a 115V.

Where is this model in its lifecycle? I don't want to purchase something that's been on the market for years and is about to be discontinued. What year did it come out and how many years of production has the manufacturer committed to?

I have a 18,000 Gallon pool. I was thinking about buying a Pureline 20,000 gallon salt system. Should I go with the larger 40,000 gallon system or the 20,000 gallon system?

Does the Water flow detector need to be installed. I am replacing a Hayward system and that does not have the additional part

Yes, the flow switch is required for the CrystalPure; the control will not turn on the cell unless it can read there is adequate flow.
