Changing the shaft seal is quite simple. Here's How To Replace a Pool Motor Shaft Seal.

I have a PlusHP pump model: PHPF 1.0
serial number K07fb0396
I am replacing the motor part: 7 - 193986 24 with a B854 motor.
Is this the correct Shaft Seal?
Thanks

My pool's pump was dying. It had been running 24/7 for seven years. My first pump lasted seven years so I knew it was probable needing replacement. I ordered a new one (Century (A.O. Smith) 1.5 HP Full Rate Motor) with the additional Mechanical Shaft Seal - R0479400. I hired a certified tech to do the install. Upon inspection of the pump and seal, he found the seal to be broken. Since this was a critical part, I DID NOT want to re-use my old one. Rather than stop the install, the technician rummaged around in his work van and actually found one--new and unopened. HALLELUJAH!! So basically, I paid for the extra piece with my pump purchase and ended up being saved by the install tech.

1. Turn off the breaker and power. Disassemble the pump and motor in one unit. It makes it easier to mate the two components on end instead of trying to reinstall the motor parallel to the ground.
2. Look at the way and orientation of the old seal.
3. Take a photo of the old seal for reference.
4. Install the new seal being careful not to damage the new one or it will leak.
5. The seal will compress when you screw in the blade. You need to have pliers on the end of the blade shaft to tighten the blade. Make sure the blade turns freely after you install the motor to the pump. Do this by turning the shaft at the end of the motor. If it binds or rubs tighten the blade down a bit more.

Tools are required to replace the pump motor, but not specifically to change the seals
As recommended by Inyo, I purchased the new Jandy shaft seals in conjunction with purchasing a replacement motor for my loud, 10-year old motor. I was pleasantly surprised that there's nothing special or difficult in replacing the shaft seals - they are pretty simple parts. By watching the Inyo video instructions on how to replace shaft seals, while my Jandy pump has a slightly different impeller and shaft design than the one in the video (Hayward), it was still relatively easy to replace my shaft seals (especially after taking note of how they were configured on the old motor prior to removing the old seals).

During the process of installing a new motor for my pump, I used this new shaft seal to ensure the new motor was correctly sealed. With the new motor out, I easily and carefully hand pressed the shaft seal onto the shaft and into the pump housing. The installation of this part was part of a larger repair. Ensure you do not touch, damage, or alter the ceramic and graphite surfaces of the new seal. These surfaces mating correctly are what seals the water out.

Reviewed the Inyo online repair guide to troubleshoot the problem and remove the motor. Took my time and had the motor off the pump housing in less than 1 hour. Good general directions and had no problems. The 5-year-old motor was shot and I installed a new motor and bearing assembly. Again no issues - 45 minutes to complete the job. Had to be careful with the alignment of plastic couplings when reassembling to avoid damage to couplings. Average homeowner skill level required.
