How do I tell the difference between old style and new style shaft seal
Reply
Ronny, The best way to tell is by the serial number listed on the pump body (housing). The old style seal is used with serial #s prior to P08FF0001. If you have the above serial # or later, you would use the new style shaft seal.

My Jandy Stealth SHPM 2.0 serial # is L07FD3409. What seal do I need

The seal that would be needed for a Jandy Stealth SHPH ( 2006-current ) would be part number 5020-087. Here is the parts diagram for the Jandy Stealth SHPM

Where should the serial number be on a Jandy PlusHP? Would it be a sticker that might have gone missing or is there a more permanent number I can get off it somewhere?
Reply
Lauren, the serial number will be on the wet end of the pump near the pump basket. It is usally on a sticker or metal label.

I have the Jandy Stealth SHPF 2.0-2 Ser# MO7FG1155. Do I need the old or new style shaft seal to go with my new B984 I just ordered from you?

Hi Mike, This would be the correct seal for your Jandy Stealth Pump as this seal is used on Stealth Pumps with Serial #'s of P08FF0001 and earlier.

Screwdriver, Socket Set, Adjustable Wrench
I followed the inyo pools video for this. I disconnected power to the system, disconnected the hoses, and removed the front cover of the impeller. Then I removed the shaft cover on the back of the motor so I could lock it out with a wrench. I spun the impeller off, which allowed access to the shaft seal. I still needed to remove the hoisting from the motor so I could press out half of the seal. I applied a small amount of lubricant to the seal prior to pressing it in and that allowed it to seat easily without binding up. Reassembly was opposite of disassembly.

This only involves replacing shaft seal. Very easy. Remove existing seal and replace exactly the same order. Do not be cheap. Replace the seal when you change the motor. I saw how much wear there was on the old one.

As with the motor I ordered, the seal arrived in 3 days. I was also advised as to which seal I needed. When you spend the kind of money for a motor and seal, it is nice to have the confidence of knowing that they are the correct items.
