Hi Pat, The Wheel Deflector snaps onto the Cassette Assembly keeping it in place.

is the center tube with the clips that lock it into the cassette assembly come with this ring? If not, how is it attached to the cassette assembly so that it does not come loose?

Hello Gordon- The Zodiac Wheel Deflector (w83278) does not come with the cassette assembly. You simply push this on top of the cassette assembly and when you connect your hose it holds it in place.

Cons: gets stuck
I bought the "wheel" to prevent my barracuda from getting stuck in corners, first thing it did was get stuck in a corner! I bought a variable speed pump and to save I now use the barracuda only 3 hours a day so those hours are precious and shouldn't be wasted stuck in corners! Not INYOPOOLS fault but....
