When should I change the sand in my filter?

You should change the sand in your filter every 5-7 years. You can generally tell that it is time if your pool water is not as clear as it normally is or when you notice the interval between backwashes is shorter. You can use > this guide to walk you through it.

How often do I have to replace the sand in my filter? What is normal operating pressure?
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/1/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

On a "fresh start-up" a filter would operate anywhere between 10-20 psi. As a general rule of thumb you only want to backwash when the pressure increases 8-10 psi. You want to make certain that the pump is being turned off whenever you move the handle on the valve. Once backwashing is complete (3-5 minutes), you can switch to the rinse option to re-settle the sand bed. Sand will typically last 5-7 years. Premature backwashing will wear down the size of the sand which will cause difficulties such as cloudy water and higher operating pressures.

Is this filter large enough to handle a 40,000 gallon in ground pool? If not which Haywood would be?
 Reply

Hello Kevin - The S244T would not be sufficient for a 40,000 gallon pool. We would recommend the Hayward S310T2.

Looking for a replacement sight glass (glass NOT plastic) for a Hayward Pro Series Sand Filter Model#S244T. Do you have this part? Thanks

This is the part number that matches to the site glass for that Multi-port valve. SPX0710MA I know that it once was glass, but I believe they have now switched to plastic. To be 100% sure, may I suggest giving Hayward Tech a call at 908-355-7995.

will the pipes to the valve connect the same way as my old Ranger Model RS 24
 Reply

David, The valve on your old Ranger sand filter and the valve on this Hayward Sand filter ports are on the same side, but can't say for sure if it will match up exact. Some adjustment might be needed or you may also need to replumb in this filter.

DE Filter had Started Discharging Sediment

Written on 1/2/2019 by Guest

Arrived on time and was in good shape. The instructions were a little daunting as the old system had been in place for 20 years. My pool service is very experienced and helped with problems before. They changed all out and all extra small parts for $140.00. I still saved a ton by buying from Inyo pools from what local pool retailers charged for the same filter, and I arranged installation. Thanks, Jeff

.Tank has pihole leaks.

Written on 7/5/2018 by Guest

The Hayward tanh (made in Canada but only 3 years old) developed several pinhole leaks near the seam and near the top by the valve clamp. I first sealed it with JB weld on the outside of the tank. Still leaked. I then covered the JB weld with fiberglass marine repair. Still leaked. I took the head off and did the same on the inside of the tank. Still leaked. I sealed the whole thin inside and out with Bondo. Still leaked.
I gave up and bought a new tank.
Same Hayward but made in USA.
We'll see.
