The Key Seal Assembly is the bottom section of the Key, Cover and Handle Assembly in a Multiport Valve. It contains the spider gasket that helps direct the flow of water through the filter and out to the exit ports, Return and Waste. If this gasket is damaged, it will allow water to leak into undesignated areas, like leaking into the Waste port when in Filter mode. For many MPVs like this Hayward SP-714T Valve, the spider gasket is glued into the Key Seal Assembly at the factory and is not sold separately. To replace the gasket, so must buy and replace the Key Seal Assembly This guide shows you how to replace a Hayward Key Seal Assembly. Although this guide features a Hayward SP-714T Valve, many of the steps in the procedure can be applied to most other MPVs.

If I wanted to purchase a complete new Hayward valve to replace this valve so going forward I only need to replace the gasket, what would the Hayward multiport valve be?Reply

My spider gasket was worn so I replaced the key assy because the gasket was already glued on. I installed the valve and tried to backwash. I turned the pump on and it did not gush water as usual. Could my alignment be wrong?Reply

Are you saying you believe this is a low flow issue? Or is it not coming out of the right pipe.Reply

When i try to turn my filter on it is leaking out where i screwed the key cover on almost like there so much pressure its shooting out the sides of it. Do i just need new seal?Reply

Yes, you will either need a new seal or, at the very least, inspect the current one to determine if it has been pinched or fallen out of the groove.Reply

Thank you! Is there a Hayward partReply

The Pureline option PL0714 is an aftermarket brand that is a drop-in replacement with similar quality parts as the Hayward. Because there is not much difference in the quality of the part, I would go with the less expensive one.Reply
