Part # GOKIT32
Standard tune up kit for the Pentair / Purex Whisperflo pump includes the shaft seal and all o-rings, gaskets and lubricant.
We highly recommend replacing the shaft seal, o-rings and gaskets when replacing your motor. If you use your old shaft seal, it will not mate up properly with the new motor and may leak.

I recently changed my pool motor and gaskets. I made sure to lubricate all the gaskets with vaseline. A few days later water is leaking from the pump. What did I do wrong? Help please!!
Reply
You never want to use vaseline on any rubber gaskets or o-rings. Vaseline is petroleum based and will deteriorate the rubber quickly. Whenever you change the motor on a pool pump it is recommended that you replace the gaskets and shaft seal as well. A >Go-kit contains the shaft seal, packet of non-petroleum based lubricant and gaskets you will need for your pump. If you already have the gaskets, you can purchase >Magic Lube.

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
Reply
Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

My pump is not priming even after cleaning impeller. Will purchasing this kit aid in fixing that problem?
Reply
The seal kit can help with loss of prime. I can't guarantee that it will solve your problem. The loss of prime could be from an air leak at the valves or plumbing in front of the pump.

Why doesn't this kit come with bearings?
Reply
Alex, The GOKIT32 is specifically made for the "wet-end" of the pump not the motor. The bearings are specific to the motor not just the pump model. We can try to match the bearing based on the model number or the size of the bearings.

I install the new motor including the seal kit. Once we turn the motor on we had a leak. We attempted to reinstall the seal kit but unfortunately it continue to leak. Ultimately I had to use the old seals which worked perfectly fine. In other words the new seals leaked and the old ones did not.

I did some troubleshooting based on watching the excellent videos on inyopools.com and determined that the motor bearings were bad. I called Inyo and they were able to find the correct bearings for me very quickly.
The associate also suggested that since I will be removing the motor to do the repair I should get the tun up kit and do a tun up. I did get this tun up kit and replaced all the gaskets and seals. I didn't have the correct tools for installation of seals but managed to get it installed using PVC pipe. I saw the instruction of doing that on Youtube. It all worked well and the pump is running very well now.

Caveats: after removal of the motor rear cover to expose wiring: picture wire hook up w your phone.
The shaft seal is pressure fit into the housing mount plate. I agree with removal w motor attached. This allows removal of volute and impeller. Then motor can be removed.
Caveat: carefully tap the old shaft spring and seal out of the mounting plate. The new spring seal unit must now be press fit. Look in your socket set and select a socket that matches the diameter of this seal cup.
I placed Teflon lube around the outer cup of the seal/ spring unit. Then line up w the plastic motor plate receptacle. The socket you just measure matched is now placed over the spring/seal assy.
Keeping level and over the plate receptacle, tap in with a small hammer. This applies pressure evenly to press-fit flush into the plate. The Teflon lube should be used on all seals.
Keep seals in their respective grooves and avoid twisting. Reassemble in reverse order. Power up and check for leaks.
Leaks are due to:
Seal got out of groove
Seal got twisted
Didn’t use lube
Not tight enough
Over tightened and cracked plate or housing
That little motor support is essential to keep the motor level. A cracked plate, or worn seal may occur without it over time.

Every so often, I undertake the task of rebuilding my pool pump and motor myself. Every few years, the front and/or rear bearings go out on the motor. When this happens, I take the motor apart, clean up the armature and stator, drive old bearings off and drive new bearings on the armature. after the motor is reassembled, I then take the pump apart and check the impeller, as well as all other parts in the pump. I ALWAYS reassemble the pump with a new ceramic seal, as well as all rubber parts - "O" rings and gaskets. In this fashion I am guaranteed a great repair with no need to repeat the task.

After turning off all power to my pool equipment at the main, I started by draining all the water out of my pump volute. I next used a socket and ratchet to loosen the six (6) bolts from the seal plate to the volute.
Next, I removed the Seal plate, still attached to the motor, from the Volute. Next, I replaced the rubber gasket for the seal plate as well as the o-ring on the diffuser.
I was now ready to reassemble the pump. I used a little lube to hold the gasket in place as I moved it back into the volute. Once I had a good seat, I started inserting the bolts, being careful just to hand tighten all six. Then I went around and tightened the bolts carefully with a wrench, alternating from top-right to left middle to bottom right and so on to create an even tightening on the gasket.
When I was all done, I switched on the electrical, primed the pump and everything worked great.

Pros: Has what you need
Cons: Also has some things you don't need
When replacing the motor in our old pool pump, we also needed new seals for it, so this "kit" came in handy. My only complaint would be that it is a standard kit for the brand of the pump I had, but not the specific model so there are parts I will not need to use. I would have preferred to pay less and receive only what I needed.

Pros: direct replacement - all the parts needed
Cons: No "Don Not Lube" Warning
Didn't know NOT TO LUBE the ceramic disk as there is no warning on the Go-Kit. I luckly had some troubles on installing the impeller and refered to Inyo's great online help, where I learned about the oil contamination issue and got mine cleaned up before going into service. The "D" shaped O-ring was a PITA to install, but eventually got it my filing the grove on the plate so the ring would seat better. I used the lube to help keep the ring in place as I seated the ring into the groove... a 30 minute job alone.

Reviewed By: LKJU from Hurst, TX ()
Pros: Did have the parts I needed.
Cons: Expensive. Had about 6 more O Rings that I didn't need.
I was changing out the motor on my pump. This kit had the parts I needed to basically rebuild my pump. I thought it was going to be hard because it had so many O rings in the package I thought it must take all day. Well, only one of the O rings is actually used on the pump I have. The rest are for different pumps, I guess, but I still had to pay for them all. Thought it was sort of expensive for what it is. I printed out the instructions from this web site. They were not very clear, but I figured it out myself. Replaced everything (three parts) with the new stuff, and put it back like it was. Didn't take that long once I got the pump apart. Directions for taking the pump motor off were bad, I wasted a lot of time trying to get it apart.

Pros: Everything you need to tune up
Cons: A diagram of the pump would be helpful
I replaced the motor and at the same time used this handy kit. I think just the gaskets would be the same price at the local pool store. I did not use all the included gaskets because I was not sure where they all go. You can find a diagram on the site but it would be nice if one was included with the package.
