I have a Hayward Supper II single speed 1 1/2 HP pump. What do I need to consider to replace the single speed motor with a dual speed motor?
Reply
Check the SF on the old and new motor. The product of the SF and HP has to match. If your old motor has a SF of 1.0, its actual HP is 1.5 (1.5 HP x 1.0 SF). If that's true you should replace it with 1 HP dual speed motor (STS1102). With a SF of 1.5, its actual HP is 1.5 (1.0 HP x 1.5 SF). Also be aware that you will have to buy a hi/lo switch. It is not provided with the motor.

My pool pump motor makes a humming noise when I try to start it. Will replacing the motor fix my problem?
Reply
Will the AO Smith UCT1152 cost less to run than the UST1152?
Reply
Yes, the UCT1152 will cost less to operate compared to the standard UST1152. Depending on how the motor is cared for, it should last several years. When replacing the motor, I would recommend buying a tune up kit based on your pump model and age.

I shopped around and found the motor at INYO at a good price. Mostly the reason I went with INYO was the info I received from the chat person. Very helpful info and very prompt. They also told me which rebuild pump seal kit to purchase, based on the Hayward pump model number I supplied to them. This is a company I would have no hesitation to recommend.

I order a replacement Century motor and the experts at Inyo provided the correct replacement and parts needed. Simply unscrew the motor from the pump making a photo of where everything goes. The diagram from Inyo is clear as tap water so its easy to remove and replace the various components. Once done, re-attach it to the pump and away you go. No experience required for this repair

I turned off the power to the pump, and disconnected the wiring to the motor.
Next the pump wet end was drained.
The 6 motor mounting bolts were removed.
The motor was removed and diffuser and impeller removed. Then the seal assembly was replaced, and the above steps were reversed for reinstallation.

Took the old motor off, which is the only 4 bolts that can be seen. And also unwired the pump. I took the motor inside because it was close to 100 degrees outside. There is still plastic parts that have to be removed from the motor and revolted to the filter box. Used a 7/16 wrench to hold the shaft while spinning the shaft off. Once that was off could remove the other bolts and then take the rest of the plastic part off. Attached it to the new pump. Bolted the plastic to the the new motor and then spun the shaft back on ( this does not need to be tightened as using the pump will tighten it). Then took the motor back outside and bolted it back to the filter box part of the pump assembly. Only thing I didn't do was change the gaskets. I did order new ones and will replace when I get them.

The motor that I had stopped working after 25 years. After doing some research I decided on this motor. The whole process took me less than 1 hour. I had to wire the cable for the electric. I’m very familiar with doing this so it was easy to do. It hooked up to the pool plumbing since it was identical to my old pump. Here’s to another 25 years of zero issues.

This was a replacement motor for the Hayward motor that was there when we bought the house in 2011. That pump ran forever!
The install was not difficult, but did take some time to be sure we did it correctly. I HIGHLY recommend taking the time to watch the video & read the installation guide. Compare them & ask questions via chat even before you begin. Don’t rush & the install will be great!
I will say, however, that right as we were approaching the 2 year mark the impeller snapped & of course the motor stopped working. Now I am ordering a replacement that will HOPEFULLY last longer than the original.

Removed old motor from pump by 4 bolts. Detached power supply wires from motor, and ground wire from housing. Obtained video information from INYOPools.com site. Following video instruction, disassembled all pump-related components from front of motor, including removing motor end cap to access motor spindle. Ordered new gasket kit and reinstalled pump-related components to new motor. Reattached electric wiring and reinstalled motor into pump housing unit. Motor runs well, but has small drip coming from pump impeller location, so I will need to investigate further. Outstanding and timely service by INYOPool to promptly deliver new motor.

Hardest part was to bypass the water connections to remove the filter from the pool. Four bolts remove the motor and part of the filter, four more separate the filter halves. and permit access to the seal parts. Replacing the seal is a matter or pulling it off and replacing it with the new seal (assuming I had the KIT 1 I had ordered and failed to arrive with the motor) Reversed all the action and removed the motor cover. Replaced the cord making sure to set the voltage selection if using the 115 voltage.

I followed this video on INYO Pools - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpJLp3oWDGU&feature=youtu.be
Yes I watched it several times but made it very simple. Biggest problem was removing the existing impeller. Had to take the broken pump completely apart.
Save yourself the time and buy new impeller and restrictor cover.

Removed and disassembled motor/impeller assembly per the Inyo Pools instructional video (well done!), with the following notes:
I could not get the impeller off by hand, and had to resort to GENTLY using a small screwdriver, inserted into one of the vane openings on the outer edge of the impeller, in order to get leverage - it worked like a charm! I used an appropriately sized socket to remove the ceramic shaft seal by gently pounding it from the opposite side of the ceramic part. Other than that, the operation went as planned!

First I looked on line for Companies that had our model motor and their cost! The INYO Pools were the company with best price and model for replacement! The web site was easy to use and time of delivery time as very short! I had just had back surgery so my son came over and replaced the new motor! With the model being the same the process to replace went very fast and instruction from your company very easy to follow! Would recommend this company to friends and for future use.!

First I tried to replace Solenoid on the old motor but when power was put to it it just smoked out ( burned ). Then went onto Lesile pool website to match Hayward motor but seeing their crazy price I searched the web and came upon INPOpools.com site and they had an AOsmith motor that would replace my Hayward exactly.
Ordered it and showed my pool store guy and he said this is a great motor and so I took the impeller apart and replaced the AOsmith motor so easily. I can't believe how much more quieter it is than the Hayward and strong 1.5 HP.
Thanks INPOpools my new pool store!

First trip the circuit breaker, drain the water from the pump system, remove the bolts that connect the motor to the pool water pump, remove the cover at the other end of the motor.
Disconnect the three (3) electric wires from the motor, short the capacitor to ground remove the capacitor with a 1/4" nut driver, use a 7/16" open wrench to hold the motor shaft from turning.
On the other end of the motor turn the diffuser c.c. wise to remove it from the shaft, put new seals on the shaft of the new motor. Use the same diffuser that you removed from the old motor, connect the electric, put the dust cover back on and re-bolt the motor to the pump, reset the circuit breaker. your good to go.

I order the replacement from Inyopools.
1.made sure power was off to motor
2.removed the 2 screws holding the end cap. You don't have to unscrew it all out.
3. Disconnected the 2 power leads and ground wire. Note where you removed them from.
4. Removed 4 bolts attached to pump, and slide out.
5. Remove infuser. Pull right out. Notice the label Top on the cover.
6. Remove from bolts from housing.
7. After parts are removed, clean them and check for reuse.
8. Reinstall housing in reverse order on new motor.
9. After all of the connections are made, make sure to add water to prime pump and start. Check for any leaks.

Pool motor quit working, ordered new motor, installed and still not working. Checking more found timer box had quit working. Not sure if old motor is good but saving it just in case. Pool motor working good now!!!
Took longer to do the job because of the additional troubleshooting, also made sure it is sealing right to make it prime right!! Challenging to do but once you become familiar with it, it’s easy to understand!!

I removed the old motor from the pump housing. I then removed the power cord from the old motor. I removed the cover to the new motor. I verified the new motor was set to the proper voltage which was 230V for my setup. I carefully discharges the capacitor to insure no nasty shock. I then carefully connected the old power cord to the motor and put on the cap. I bolted the new motor to the pump housing and plugged in the pump.

Best part is the pool motor arrived 2 days earlier than I was expecting. I had some questions about the accesory kit. for the installation..The support was great. I had to upload the picture of my pool motor which he reviewed and suggested the right kit.
The installation was easy once you watch the step by step DIY video provided by inyo pools.
Need to follow the video carefully to avoid leaks. Overall great experience.

Easy direct replacement to the Hayward Super pump. Local pool shop wanted almost 2x the cost of the motor as INYO pools. Online instructions were great, and the follow up emails on how to install the motor made this really easy.
I have replaced the motor before, but it has been over 5 years, so the refresher course/tutorial that was available was very much appreciated.
At first, I did not know how to take the company name, and decided to give them a shot. I am glad I did. I have since purchased additional parts and accessories from this company.

I removed the old motor, switched the impeller over to the new motor, replaced the seals, and reinstalled the new motor. The project was very easy, with the most important part being to shut off the power to the pool before disassembly.

I'm still a novice at pool maintenance.
This is my 3rd summer ever owning a home with a pool.
Opened ourselves with the help of a friend who works in the field.
I have 3 pumps, Main, Spa booster and Waterfall.
The main pump was replaced last year along with a new DE filter and a couple of actuators at a cost of $2000+ by a local company a week before a big party we had planned with 50 guests coming.
After that experience I was done being robbed
This year the Spa pump was right at the end of life (loud as hell) and waterfall pump tripped breaker or would just stop after 30 minutes of run time.
There was no way I was going to go back to the local company.
My friend would have charged me a nominal fee for his time but I figured I would give it a try on my own watching the video and following advice online.
The first pump was a learning curve but the second was a breeze.
The online help and customer service at InYoPools were super helpful.
I recommend also getting a Seal Assembly kit and replace with all new when replacing the motor.
Also which is not noted in the video or article to get a SLINGER FOR the MOTOR SHAFT.
I missed that and had to reopen the first motor and did not find out until I was halfway through the install of the second motor when checking other sites online.
AND be safe everyone. turn off your power to the system before opening anything.

I was fortunate by contacting Inyo and talking to Adam. He convinced me I could handle the replacement process and save some money. He spent time gathering the necessary information to get me the correct motor. He walked me thru the entire process and forwarded a video . I made a call back as I was unsure of the wiring . Once again Adam went over the correct setup. I am happy to report success. Because of people like Adam I will always call Inyo Pool. Your people are your most important Product!!!!!!!!

My Haywood pool pump had quite running. When I turned it on it would only hum. Through research I determined that it was needing replaced. I found Inyopool during my online searches. Their prices were the best I found. The replacement was easy. I did order the tuneup kit, as recommended on their site. It took less than 30 minutes to install the tuneup items, and the pump. I referred to the online videos that were provided to me by Inyopool.
For the project you will need a screwdriver, a wrench (to hold the shaft in place while you tighten the impeller), and a socket set.
1. Remove your old pump, and take off the plastic housing that goes from the pump to the filter basket.
2. Clean up the pieces you will be reusing (all the plastic pieces)
3. Replace your shaft seal parts, be sure to lube the areas shown in the video
4. Now you can attach all the plastic parts onto your new pump.
5. Tighten the 4 bolts being sure to tighten each snug, before tightening all.
6. Attach your power wires, and your ground wires, put the back cover on and turn your breakers back on.
7. Final step is to refill the filter basket with water, once it is full, your new pump will be ready to roll.
Biggest recommendation is to watch the Inyopool videos. I am a female, and I was able to complete this without any problem, thanks to their step by step videos.

The motor was removed from the pump housing and inspected. It had locked up due to moisture from a leaking housing. A new motor and seal kit was ordered for replacement, delivery was made in 2-3 days and the repair was completed using instructional videos on the INYO website. This was my first attempt at a pump repair and everything went smoothly. Thanks to INYO for the quick delivery of parts and detailed instructions on the repair!

(5 out of 5 stars) Excellent Pump Moter Replacement
Reviewed By: PoJo from Clarence, NY ()
Pros: Awesome fit - excellent replacement
Cons: none
Tip to get the impeller off the old pump moter: use a 7/16" open ended wrench - it slides in near the capacitor on the electrical side... rotate the impeller until the wrench slides into place at the end of the shaft and then one person holds the motor and the wrench while a 2nd person loosens the impeller off with bare hands by turning the impeller counter clock-wise.
