We have a 40 foot long by 20 foot wide above ground pool, would the 2 Wheel or the 4 Wheel Pool Cleaner work better than the other? The pool is about 4 1/2 ft deep. Does the 4 wheel come with 33 foot of hose too or longer? Can more house be ordered?
Reply
For a pool under 6' deep we suggest the 2 wheel Pool Cleaner. The 4 wheel cleaner is for pools deeper than 6'. The 4 wheel cleaners come with 33' of hose and you may purchase additonal hoses for both here http://www.inyopools.com/Products/07501352028024.htm
Reply
My pool is a 10,000 gal. deepest point is 6 feet do I need a 4 wheel pool cleaner or will a 2 wheeler be good enough?
Reply
The 2 wheeled cleaner would be just fine since the gallons are perfect for that cleaner. Also, the max depth the cleaner is "best" for is 6 feet, so you are good for that as well. If you get lots of leaves might I suggest a leaf catcher that gets placed between two of the sections of hose. http://www.inyopools.com/Products/02201321001425.htm This would help keep the larger debris from clogging up the pump basket.
Reply
What is the diameter of the hose? 1 1/2" or 2"? I couldn't find it in the description or manual, and I need to get a leaf filter/trap.
Reply
Hello Terry - The hose is 1-1/2". We would recommend the Hayward W560 Leaf Canister for the The Pool Cleaner hose.

Is the installation of the pool cleaner easy?

Jim, The cleaner comes with all the necessary hoses (33 ft.) and attachments.

Does this model still need different tires to work properly in a Vinyl Liner In-Ground Pool?
It it does, is Hayward supplying them at no-charge now?
(I read somewhere that it's very expensive for the fiberglass/vinyl tires and no trade-in value for the gunite/concrete ones that it comes with)
Reply
Tim, Hayward has advised that the tires that come with the cleaner are mainly designed for concrete/plaster/gunite but can be used on a vinyl pool however the 896584000-075 tire kit will work better for vinyl/fiberglass.

My 4 wheel "The Pool Cleaner" went to work in July 2012 in 16k gallon pool the is 9 ft in the 30' long (diving pool). Recently the left wheel fell off. The screw actually broke away from the grooved setting. Is this repairable and if what parts would I need. Thanks!
Reply
Hello Phil - According to our list of available parts, the wheel and the screw are replaceable. If a part of the body broke, the entire cleaner would need to be replaced.
Reply
I'm assuming this can be plugged into my scimmer. What is the hose length? I have a 35ft pool so I would need about a 40ft hose.
Reply
This cleaner comes with 33 feet of hose, so you'll have to purchase 2 more sections of hoses.

I just found the answer to my last question. If the hose is only 33 ft long can I get an extension hose.

If your pool is more than 6ft deep, this model is what you need. It also comes with 33ft of hose.

what about vynal liner pools?

Hayward has advised us that the tires that come with the cleaner are mainly designed for concrete/plaster/gunite but can be used on a vinyl pool. However, the 896584000-075 tire kit will work better for vinyl/fiberglass.

I have a pool with pop ups on the bottom. Will this work with the pop up system operating?
Reply
Hi Mike, The In-floor cleaning system acts as your pool cleaner. No automatic suction cleaner will work properly in your pool because of those pop-ups. The only cleaner you'll be able to use is a robotic, manual suction vac head or a battery-powered vacuum.
Reply
How much does the four-wheel model weigh? If I choose to buy one, can I pick it up directly in Santa Rosa?

I have a free form pool, 24000 gallons with the deepest point 6'6" Will this pool cleaner work, and it will or will not go partially up the wall?

Jim - This cleaner will work in a pool your size. It is not designed to climb all the way up the wall. It may climb 1/4 of the way up a wall.
Reply
Which The Pool Cleaner 2 or 4 Wheel Cleaner should I use for a 19,000 gal pool?
Reply
Jean, It all depends on your pool. Usually if your pool is deeper than 5ft and has steep transition from the deep to the shallow end, the 4 wheel would one will be better. If your pool doesn't meet these criteria then the 2 Wheel Cleaner would be the preferred one.

Do you have the limited edition Gray at the same price?

We have the limited edition dark 4-wheel cleaner but the price is $418.99.

Our vinyl pool is 22,000 gallons. The deep end is 8ft and the shallow end is 4ft. We live in an area with lots of fine dust that ends up in the pool. Would the 4 wheel pool cleaner be right for us?
Reply
Yes this cleaner should be good for your application as long as you have a strong enough pump and compatible filter considering the potential of a steep slope.
Reply
Pool size is 16x32 - it is a "sports" pool where each end starts at 3.5ft goes to 4.5, the drops in center to 7 ft. It also has a 18 inch walk all the way around. Point is lots of curves and angles
Which do I need, do I need a canister?
Reply
As long as you have sufficient suction and flow from your system it isn't actually about what you need but more of a preference. Either the 2 or 4 wheel model in theory will suffice. As far as a canister, the more debris then the larger canister you may want to use.

I see this has a 1 year warranty. How do I get it repaired/replaced if there is a problem?

Hello Pat - The warranty is taken care of by the manufacturer. All you have to do is call the manufacturer and provide your serial number. They will first try to troubleshoot the cleaner over the phone. If that doesn't work they will put you in touch with the closest warranty center.

My pool is surfaced with fiberglass. I understand that the model I should get is 896584000-020V. Is this correct? Do you carry this model? Will the hoses fit my current canister, which is used with the Navigator?
I get a lot of leaves on occasion. Will it be able to handle these?
Thanks,

There most definitely is a vinyl version. We only carry the standard 4 Wheel Pool Cleaner , but we do have the tires available for vinyl pools. They are part number 896584000-075 .The Hayward Tech said you would only have to replace the 2 front tires. The hose is standard, which will accommodate the canister used typically on Hayward cleaners. The cleaner does have a large vacuum hole and can handle large debris

Hello Pam - We would recommend getting the tires for fiberglass/vinyl. Part number 896584000-075 would be the correct tires.

In a fiberglass surfaced pool, what does the standard model do/not do compared with one equipped with the wheels made for fiberglass pools?
Reply
I spoke to the Technical Help at Hayward ( 908-355-7995 ) and was told that the only difference is the tires. The standard tires may climb the walls, but if they do not there are tires available that will. They are part number 896584000-075 . The Hayward Tech said you would only have to replace the 2 front tires.

I have a vinyl pool so I will need to buy the front tire kit for fiber glass pools? There is no way to designate which tires a new model should come with? Will I need a leaf canister if I have a lot of trees in my yard?
Reply
Yes this is correct about needing to purchase the front tire kit for fiberglass pools, unfortunately at this time you cannot change out the tires at the time of purchasing the new cleaner. If you get a lot of leaves then I would suggest a leaf canister, you could always add this after the fact if you want to see how the cleaner works without a leaf cansiter.

I have a 2 wheel version. It often gets hung up on the steps and won't free itself. In addition, I recently put weights on the vacuum hose to keep them on the bottom. Now the unit gets stuck on the submerged hose as well. Would new tires or the 4 wheel version fix this?
Reply
Clark - It's not clear why you submerged the hose. It's designed to float on the top out of the way of the cleaner. The 4-wheel cleaner is designed to pull a longer hose in larger pools so it has more pull power and may not get struck on the steps as easily. If you have a smaller pool and the cleaner tires are worn smooth, you might solve you problem by replacing the tires.

Just received the Hayward Poolvergnuegen 896584000 (4 wheel gray) and was more than disappointed that it does now climb the sides of my PebbleTec pool. RPMs are 14 (counted 14 wheel revolutions using a countdown timer) and tried all 3 throat attachments - hoping the large opening (installed in the correct direction) would have solved the issue. Even cranked up pool suction but still no joy - just spins on the base of the curve to climb the wall. Any suggestions?
Reply
Hi, John. I know that you also tried increasing the suction but you will have to do it in intervals. Too much suction can also prevent the cleaner from climbing the walls. Also, you can try positioning the floats closer to the cleaner. If that doesn't work the issue could be the pool curve.

About the Pool Cleaner or Poolvergnuegen 4 Wheel:
Can the cleaner remain in the pool while we are swimming?
I read on https://www.hayward-pool.com/images/pdf/manuals/aquanaut-200-400.pdf "DO NOT swim with cleaner" in SAFETY FACTS.
Does this mean it must be removed every time we swim?
Also wondering how sturdy the pool is.
If something falls in the pool, will it destroy the cleaner?
Wondering what it can do and what to watch out for.
Thanks for your help, DS
Reply
Yes, I would not recommend swimming with the cleaner in the pool. It is not harmful, just inconvenient for both you and the cleaner.

If designated for larger pools, how's only 32 feet of hos sufficient? Standard pool length is 30 feet; at a depth of only six feet, 32 feet would have to be completely stretched out, which will not happen. 38 feet of hose should be standard length to accompany the unit.
Reply
Hi, Herach. This unit comes with approximately 40 ft. of hose not 32 like the 2 Wheel model.
Reply
have the 4 wheel model built in pool 18x36 does not go up the sloops and never makes it to the low end
Reply
Hello, you might try checking your hose to see if it is all going towards one direction, I would lay your hose out in the sun for a little bit and then reconnect to see if this is better. It also depends on the skimmer location, if it isn't in the middle and on one side more than the other than that could also be the problem.

Reply
If we add additional hose length (beyond the 40 ft.) for the 4 wheel model will it effect the performance?
Reply
It could potentially create tangling so you really only want enough house to reach the ends of the pool or maybe even slightly shorter. Weekly brushing down the walls and steps of the pool will help move that dirt or debris to the better areas for the cleaner to reach.
Reply
I have this model. It is four years old. It no longer moves forward, but it does periodically change direction. I checked everything in the troubleshooting checklist. Everything checks out OK. I also replaced the front tires.
It looks like the small gear on the driveshaft is not engaging the internal gear on the large wheel (that is, it is slipping). Could this be the result of wear? Is four years a reasonable lifetime, or should I expect longer?
Reply
Hi, John. Yes, if one of the gears is not engaging then that will prevent the cleaner form not moving. The suction spins the turbine which spins the other gears causing the wheel to move forward and maneuver around the pool.

You didn't answer this question fully. Please do.

Does this climb walls? Does it help with algae? ty. I cant find a pool man and Im doing it alone
Reply
If the pool system has enough suction on the pump then the cleaner may go up the walls but it is always recommended to brush all the pool walls and steps weekly to remove algae and dirt allowing the filter and cleaner to remove it. A cleaner will not actually rid the algae.

Hello. My pool man has recommended your product but, before I make a decision my questions are. How well does the PoolCleaner 4 clean up silt and does it pick up pine needles? My current cleaner does not get all the silt off the bottom of the deep end of my pool. Thanks.

So this cleaner will do a good job with silt and some needles but the problem with pine needles with any cleaner is the tendency to clog the cleaners due to their length.

What is difference between the pool cleaner two and four beside the number of wheels?
Reply
Hi. The additional two wheels are the difference between the model. The 4-Wheel model is used in pool deeper than 6', has more obstacles and free formed pools.

Hi. You can use The Pool Cleaner Owner's Manual to troubleshoot your cleaner to find out why it's not moving.

How do you program a 4 wheeled pool cleaner
Reply
Hi. This unit does not require any programming, review The Pool Cleaner Owner's Manual for installation requirements and instructions.

I can't get my 4 wheel pool cleaner to work. It won't go 11 to 13 rpms. I have tried running my pool pump at 1400, 2200, 3000 and it doesn't make a difference. It doesn't travel very much and I can tell no difference in the cleaning. Hayward sent me some videos but The Pool Cleaner is not on their list. I am really not happy!

Hi, Shar. Take these steps to increase the suction to the vac line, adjust the valve, increase the RPM, clean the main filter and or change the Throat.

We are building a pool that is 40' long, 11' wide and the depth runs from 3 1/2' - 4 1/2' deep. I'm looking at The Pool Cleaner and don't know if we need the 2-wheel or 4-wheel version. What is your suggestion? Our pool is rectangular.

Hi Camille, The 4-Wheel model is used in pool deeper than 6' so we suggest The 2 Wheel Pool Cleaner for a pool with your dimensions.
