Is there a feedback mechanism that tells the unit the chlorine balance in the pool? Is this a way for me to automate addition of clorine to keep it always at the correct level? Or, just another place to put the tab aside from the the drain basket?
Reply
There is a dial on this unit which has a setting from 1-10 If you set the dial on 1 it will be letting the least amount of chlorine to the pool and if you have it set at 10 this would send the most amount of chlorine to the pool. So you can automate the feed of chlorine to the pool but you will still need to manually test your water. We do not recommend placing tablets in the skimmer basket because this high concentration of chlorine goes directly back to your pump and can cause corrosion to your pool equipment. If you do not go with the automatic chlorinator we would recommend at least going with one of our floating chlorinators so you do not damage your equipment you may view our floating chlorinators here http://www.inyopools.com/chlorinators_floating.aspx

What is the difference between an inline and offline chlorinator?
Reply
An inline chlorinator would be plumbed directly inline with the plumbing. For an existing pool, this would mean a section of pipe would need to be cut out to install the chlorinator. An offline chlorinator attaches to existing plumbing by chlorinator tubing (holes would be drilled into existing pipe to attach the tubing.)

Is the Rainbow 320 Inline Chlorinator a direct replacement for the Lifegard No. 320 chlorinator?
Reply
Paul- The Rainbow 320 will be a direct replacement for the Lifeguard 320.

I brought a replacement flow regulator and it will not quite fit onto the existing threaded spigot on the main body of the chlorination. Is this a common problem?
Reply
Norm, this is not a problem we have run across. Can you double check that your chlorinator is indeed a Rainbow 320?
Reply
do I need to recharge my chlorinator everytime I open the lid to check it?
Reply
I recommend refilling the chlorinator if and when the pool chemistry calls for it. If the chlorine level is maintaining a high level then either add less or none until that level lowers a bit. If low then a shock and refill is necessary. If its maintaining a level chlorine reading then yes refill.

I have a variable speed pump and there is not enough water coming into the unit as these pumps are designed to save money by running at a lower speed.
I don't want to run the pump higher just to get water into chamber.
Reply
Hi Ross, Variable Speed Pumps are designed to run on a low speed to save money, however certain equipment need a certain amount of flow to operate properly. If at the current speed your pool is being properly chlorinated then it's ok.

I have a 12,500 gallon in-ground pool. How many tablets should I put in the Pentair 320 at any one time? Do I fill it up or use a n umber associated with the size of my pool?
Reply
Hi, You can fill up the chlorinator but set it on 1 or 2 depending on where you want your chlorine level to be. Also you would want to monitor the CYA level of your pool, if high reduce the amount of tablets and set at a higher output level.

Hello Charlie - We sell 8' sections of the chlorinator tube. Part number R172023 (6704-0) is the correct tubing.

I have a Rainbow 320 in-line chlorinator, my tablets are not dissolving. There is water in the unit. What could be the problem?
Reply
There could be a number of issues that can cause these tablets to not be dissolving. There could be a pinched hose, clogged chlorinator, or even insufficient flow from an equipment issue. I would advise to trouble shoot all of the above and if no success consider having a technician inspect the system.

I have a Rainbow 320 inline chlorinator on my 14,000 gallon in ground pool with a ozonator. The pool and equipment was installed in 2009. The 320 seems to be working properly; water drains when opens, fills when turned on and the tablets are dissolving etc, but no matter how high I set the feed dial the chlorine is always low. Could there be something plugged that needs servicing?
Reply
Hi Pat, A few things that you can check: (1) the Screen on the bottom of the unit (2) the Check Valve. You can also try pouring hot water down the chlorinator, that can clear the lines of any blockage due to chlorine build up.

Please i want to know the mentioned part model no. Rainbow 320 Inline Chlorinator - R171096 - how much one pc. weight? please reply me my mail
Reply
Hello, The weight of the chlorine feeder is approximately 7.5 lbs.
Reply
the length of damage hose is about 8 inch. the new is 18. just leave the whole hose in and not cut it down
Reply
You will need to cut the larger hose down to replace the damaged one. I would recommend removing the old hose and using that length as a template for trimming the new tube.

I’ve a 320 inline chlorinator and it’s bottom feed. No matter how high I set the feed dial the free chlorine is always low. I set the feed dial to 0 off, removed the lid and turned the pump on and the tube filled with water in seconds and started to overflow. I shut the pump down and the tube drained slowly. Is there anything wrong with the chlorinator? Thanks!

How much pressure is required for this chlorinator. I approached my pool builder about a 2 speed pump so I could run the filter pump / chlorinator just as long but not use as much electricity, and he said the 2 speed pump did not provide enough pressure for the chlorinator?
Reply
Your pool guy is probably concerned with the decreased flow rate which will cause the chlorinator to produce less chlorine than when it is on high. I am guessing he is concerned with your pool turning green due to not enough chlorine being applied to your pool.

I have a pentair model 320 inline pool chlorinator that is leaking where the base is attached to the threaded T fitting. Is there a o-ring or gasket there that might be leaking, and if so , how do I replace it?
Reply
Hello Joyce- here is a link to the Rainbow 320 Parts Diagram. In the diagram, I would like you to look at 17, 18A, 21, and 22 on the diagram. To access this area, you would need to remove #18A, the locking screw. This will allow you to access the #17 o-ring between the #22 Tee and the tube. You would need to order #17 O-ring, Bottom-Inline (128).

I have a Rainbow chlorinator #320 but have noticed the tube doesn't fill with water as others have described. I can feel water movement through connector tube and at base. What could be the issue. The equipment is only 8 months old. Thanks

Hi. The issue could be that you do not have enough water flow, the unit is clogged or the unit was not installed properly with 6" or of straight pip on either side.

I have a 20 year old Rainbow Lifegard model 320 chlorine feeder. Was clean it out in that debris was in the check valve. When cleaned it out buy takening apart I noticed that the Lock screw was screwed all the way through the cannister. Is this correct?

Hi, Jimmy. It is okay if the screw goes all the way through the tee.

Why does my current chlorinator run dry and suck air into the system?
Reply
Hi. Your cholrinator is dry because water is not flowing through the unit. The chlorinator is on the pressure size of the system so it's unable to suck air into the system. The problem is on the suction side of your system. To troubleshoot this issue, follow the steps in out How to Identify and Correct Air Leaks guide.

I have a lifeguard 320 inline chlorinator which looks like the rainbow 320 it is 28 years old and failing. Can I replace it with the rainbow 320 without any "mainline" retrofits? It looks to be about the same unit. Thanks Walt

HI, Walt. Since your current unit is 28 years old, the new style chlorinator will not fit so you will have to replace and replumb a new 320 Chlorinator.

i have a 37000 gallon pool. How long should I have to run my pool to get the bromine to the level it should be?
Reply
Hi, Laurie Bellows. It's hard to say how long. It depends on how much bromine is in the unit, the flow rate of the pump etc. Also, bromine can not be stabilized so it's will not remain in the pool for a long time so it will have to be continually circulating.

I have a pentair automatic chlorine bromine in line feeder MODEL 320 model R172276 has that model been replaced by a newer model? It has a set screw and can be removed by taking set screw out and taking unscrewing the canister.

how close can the pentair check valve be installed to the pentair 320 chlorinator i have a total of 10. 5" of actual pipe between filter and a tee?
thanks jim

Hi, Jim. The check valve should be installed with 6" of straight pipe between the feeder and the valve.

Have been running this one week. Even on a 1 for a 15,000 pool it is maintaining too high a chlorine - over 5PPM What now?
Reply
Hi, Ann. You will need to reduce the amount of chlorine tablet in the unit. Also, monitor the pool water temperature. The colder the water the less chlorine you'll need.
Reply
Had Rainbow 320 installed and I have it turned all the way up. The chlorine level will not go up. I keep having to put tablets in the skimmer or shock the pool to get it up. The tablets are dissolving in a few days inside the unit. How do I know if it is getting the chlorine delivered.
Reply
If the tablets are dissolving and you cannot keep a good balance on the chlorine level you may have to much cyanuric acid in the water. Please view How To Break Chlorine Lock Link http://www.inyopools.com/HowToPage/how_to_break_chlorine_lock.aspx and have the water tested with a professional.

If I want to use the top feed i would run the longer pipe from the top to the valve. I would leave the valve where it is on the chlorinator. Is this correct?

Hi, Donald. You will have to move the valve to the top and plug the bottom. Instruction are available in the SPECIAL FEATURES AND INSTRUCTIONS section of the Rainbow 320 InLine Chlorinator Owner's Manual.

Hello, what is the max flow this chlorinator can handle? Pad is 2.5” and then goes to 1.5” before going to 3 returns, water slide and 3 waterfalls.
Can I place the chlorinator right after the filter and before everything else? Or should some water features be bypassed?
Thanks
Reply
Hi, NT. This unit using the bottom feed port max flow rate is19 GPM and using the top feed is 48 GPM. The chlorinator should be placed after all other equipment with a check valve.
Reply
does it matter if the valve was installed at the top of the feeder versus the bottom as all pictures show it? My pool guy installed our new chlorinator with the valve at the top and plug at bottom.
Reply
Hi, Jeremy. It does not matter which port is used. The top port is used in high flow applications.
Reply
after installing chlorinator I noticed an arrow pointing for water flow . the arrow is pointing toward my filters . that seems to be backwards . does it matter which way chlorinator is flowing . or do I have to reinstall the other way ?

Hi, Jeff. Yes, it matters which way he arrow is pointing, you will have to reinstall the chlorinator the correct way.

I'm using a 320 for a 1000 gallon Spa and the Bromine levels are always high do they make a 1000 gal. chlorinator or is there something i can use to slow the flow?
Reply
Good afternoon, you can add a ball valve to decrease the flow or would just be adding smaller amounts or bromine to the system.
Reply
What kind of ball valve should I use to slow the flow rate down. I have a 2000 gallon spa and stays at 100 degrees 24/7. If I add one tab to the chlorinator it shoot the levels through the roof overnight and that's just barely opening the valve.

Hello, What is the size of your PVC plumbing?
Reply
i have a 500 gal pool w/ the 320 but seems to raise the cl2 to, does it matter the amount of tablets in the chlorinator the I've been keeping it full.
Reply
Hi, Rob. The amount of chlorine in the chlorinator will determine how much chlorine is released into the spa. The more tabs in the chlorinator the more chlorine is released.

The Rainbow 320 Inline Chlorinator - R171096 is listed under the sanitizer category as a one-year warranty with a certified installer competing the installation. Please view link http://images.inyopools.com/cloud/documents/limitedwarrantycard-2.pdf for the warranty card.

Do you install the chlorinator between the pump and the filter or after the filter
Reply
John, The chlorinator would be the last thing that is plumbed in before the return. If you have a heater, it would be installed after the heater. If you don't have a heater, it would go after the filter. You will also want to install a check valve or plumb in a loop to prevent backflow from the chlorinator when the pump is turned off.
