I am going to purchase two 12 Volt lights do I need to purchase a transformer with these lights?

The power coming from your house is 120V so you will need to purchase a transformer to drop the voltage from 120V coming from your house down to 12V going to the pool light. We sell two transformers the PX100 which can handle up to 100 watts and the PX300 which can handle up to 300 Watts. You may also put multiple lights on one transformer, for example if you had two 50 watt lights then you would only need to purchase one PX100 transformer and wire both lights into this single transformer.

Is this transformer designed to be switched on and off? Or should the light switch be on the 12vdc side? Just wondering if anyone has had problems with the inrush current of the transformer? The reason I'm concerned is because the LED light I was looking at requires power to be switched on and off to change the color/light show.

Turning the light on and off as well as changing the colors is going to be done by switching the light switch on and off, the transformer does not have the switch for that.

I have to 120V pool lights (2) that I want to convert to 12V to then install LEDs. Are there any transformer compatibility issues with these transformers and the LED drivers of different manufacturers? Also any reason not to spend the extra few $ to buy the 300W transformer to future proof i.e. when higher wattage LED pool lights are released?

Hi. There is no compatibility issue with these Intermatic transformers and pool light. I would recommend getting the 300W unit because of its load capacity.

If I installed this transformer to my existing light which is 300 watts could I then use a lower wattage bulb?

Hi, Sean. Yes, you can use a 100 Watt 12v bulb if one is available for your fixture or else you will have to replace the entire fixture.

Should this transformer be wired in before the switch or after the switch? IE: should it always have power to it, or should the switch control whether or not the transformer gets power?
Reply
Hi, Chris. The transformer will be placed after the switch. So the switch will control the transformer.

Can you get this or a similar transformer with a remote?

Hi, Kevin. Unfortunately, this transformer is not available with a remote. You can purchase an external control that can control the circuit that powers this unit.

will this transformer work with a PL5822?
Reply
Mike, yes, the PureColors LED Bulb & Pentair Amerlite Pool Light Fixture Kit 12V 100' Cord - PL5822 has a 35 watt LED in it. So, yes the Intermatic Intermatic 100 Watt Transformer will work with this light. Keep in mind this transformer is not to exceed a load capacity of 100w.

we presently have three 100 W boxes. Thinking of using a 300 W box for the three but don't know how to wire, Box 100w has three wires but box 300 has four. How to wire??
Reply
Hi, George. You will wire the box according to the output voltage, 12, 13, or 14. Reference the Intermatic PX100 & PX300 Installation Manual.

Hi, Is this transformer suitable for use with: Pool Astrolite 12V 300W 100 Ft Cord SS - W3SP0581S100? I currently have a light using 120V and want to be safer with a 12V. Is this a good pairing? And I can simply replace the incandescent bulb it comes with and led version, correct? Thank you!

Hello Mark. The Intermatic 100 Watt Transformer part #PX100 is compatible with the Hayward Astrolite 12V 300W Pool Light Fixture. The 12V incandescent bulb that is installed in the fixture can be changed out to a 12V LED white or color bulb.
