I have a 16' x 32' inground pool. Shallow end is roughly 3.5 feet and deep end is 9 ft deep. 1) Would this be the right filter? 2) Does this use the Vari-Flo valve? 3) How much are replacement cartridges and how often do they need to be replaced?
Reply
Yes this would be a great choice of filter for your sized pool. This particular filter does not use a backwash valve like the vari-flo valve, typically a backwash valve is used on a D.E filter or a sand filter and not on a cartridge filter. The generic replacement cartridges for this filter are roughly $50 each and 4 are required, 4 cartridges are included with the purchase of this filter. Typically the cartridges will last roughly 3 years before needing to be replaced.

What size filter do I need for a 30000 gallon 20 by 40 pool.
Reply
George, This Hayward Swimclear Cartridge 425 Sq Ft Filter can handle a maximum flow rate of 150 GPM. So if your pump does not exceed that amount then this filter will be great for your size pool.

What cartridge filter do i need
Pool 20000 gallons
Pipes one and a half inch
Old pool under a tree
Pump close to return
Thanks

Hi Maylis, This filter would be more than adequate for your sized pool but by going with a larger filter like this you will have much more cleaning capacity meaning that you will clean the cartridges less. If you have 1-1/2" plumbing you would need reducer bushings as this filter has 2" connections. The reducer bushings can be found at any hardware store for less than a dollar.

I have a 13,300 gallon saltwater pool. I need a new pool filter. I presently have a 700 square foot filter that Shasta Pools installed 11 years ago. I've been told that the Hayward Swimclear 425 square foot filter will work as a new replacement. Is this true?

Hi, The Hayward SwimClear Filter C7030 is the correct replacement filter that I will recommend.

Hi, The Hayward C4030 is a good replacement filter and will provide adequate filtration.

I currently have a Hayward C3000 filter that is leaking. My pool is 18X36 with roughly 30K gls of water. I was told that I should have the C4030 and that the inlet/outlet on the filter would match the piping perfectly. Can you verify that please?
Thanks

Hi Blake, The C4030 can be used as a replacement, however, can't confirm if the water ports on the C4030 will match up exactly to the C3000 model.

I have a 10Year old Hayward C5520 Cartridge Filter system that has sprung a leak. I'm looking to replace it. Will this one work in its place or do I need the 525 sq ft one?
Reply
That would be fine going to the C4030, but just so you're aware, each one of those four cartridges will be 7 inches shorter than the C5520 cartridges. This will make so you have more maintain because you will be cleaning the cartridges more often.

Hello Arthur- Unfortunately I don't have the dimensions or specifications for the Triton Seahorse, and the only dimensions we have for the Hayward Swimclear Cartridge Filter 425 Sq Ft. - C4030 which as a width of 24" and height of 40 1/2".

I currently have a Hayward DE6020, would the C4030 be a good replacement for a 35,000 gallon pool or would the C5030 be the better choice?
Reply
Rick, Either of filters will work there is a 100sq ft difference on the two. They Both will handle the same amount of flow and turnover time. In the filter world bigger is better but in this case both filters will work.

How do we determine what size Hayward Swimclear for our pool. Pool looks to be between 15,000 - 20,000 gal. Thanks
Reply
You can determine that by what the flow rate is. I can figure that out with the pump model and the distance from the pump to the skimmer to calculate the flow rate that will help me properly size your filter.

I want to replace my 2002 vintage Hayward C4020 cartridge filter with a new Hayward C4030. Can I simply remove the old filter and replace it with the C4030 using the old plumbing kit? Also, when do the filters go on sale? While old and in need of several parts, failure of the C4020 is not imminent and I can wait.
Reply
Hi. The port configurations are almost identical that not alterations are neccessary. However, the union on the C4020 are not compatible with the bulkheads on the C4030 so you will have remove those and use the one that comes with the C4030. We do not have a time frame of when this unit will go on sale.

pool is circulating fine but there is only five pounds of pressure on the gauge and water slowly comes out of relief valve when opened. could the valve be bad?

The most common issue that causes this is a suction leak. The first thing I would suggest is to the following the steps listed in our Article on How to Correct Low Pressure in Your Pool Filter System.

Hello, The cartridge filter does not use any sand. Adding sand to a cartridge filter would cause severe damage to the filter and cartridges.

I have a EC75A and Super pump II, 1.5hp. Started last year DE blowing into pool. Replaced several parts including tube sheet, oring bump shaft, etc.. Still getting DE in pool this season. I'm not lookin to invest $400 into replacing tubes so I've considered Swim Clear. 3.5 deep shallow 8.5 deep end. Any remedies for my current DE problem or what size Swim Clear do you recommend?
Reply
Hi Marc, I believe that the DE getting back into your pool is due to the fingers needing to be replaced and the $400 cost to replace the fingers on the EC75A is definitely the biggest downside to that filter. Really the only remedy on the DE issue would be to replace the fingers. I would suggest replacing the filter with a SwimClear Cartridge Filter and the 425 Sq. Ft. C4030 would be the size I suggest.

Hi Kirk, Outside of some plumbing supplies look glue and pipe fittings, this would be everything you need. The cartridges are included with this filter as well as the unions for the plumbing connections.

Hi, Mike. This filter will be sufficient with your existing setup. You will have to use a pvc adapter to either downsize or increase the plumbing to the unit. You will not have to upgrade your pump.

Going down 5 percent would not hurt your filtration. The pluming would not line up exactly the same

Hi Cecil, The cartridges last about 3-5 years. They can be heavy to take in and out of the filter, I have a similar filter and normally its a 30 minute job to clean all 4.

Hi . . . what size pool filter? Current Hayward Ecostart pump 2.70, powered by Century. Current filter Hayward 425 ft2 model C4020CP with 2 1/2" pipe in and out. Pool equipment pretty far from pool, perhaps 50 -100 feet. Size of pool 12,631 gallons = 397 ft2.

Hi Pool Mom based on the pool information you supplied then the W3C4030 would be the exact filter we would suggest. If your pocketbook can afford it then you could also upgrade to the larger Hayward W3C5030 525 Sq. Ft. Filter which has a larger filtering capacity which means longer periods between cleaning your cartridges, but either filter will work fine for your set up.
Reply
Thank you so much for the model. Our system has 2 1/2" pipe both in and out. When I review model W3C4030 the picture shows the top pipe hole at 2 1/2" and the bottom hole 3 1/2. Wasn't able to find a brochure to confrim this. Is this bottom hole adjustable down to the 2 1/2" pipe.
Reply
Hi Pool Mom, This filter can accommodate either 2" or 2-1'2" plumbing. 2" Plumbing would go on the inside of the port on the filter where 2-1/2" plumbinb goes on the outside of the port. This is for both plumbing ports on the filter, so with 2-1/2" you will be fine with this filter.

What is the difference between W3C4030 and C4030?
Are there any quality differences between the two?
According to Hayward's site, the C4030 falls under the "expert line" while the W3C4030 falls under the "open line".

Hello Mike, the only difference is W3 stands for WWW for the manufacturer to track if their unit was purchased on line or at a local store. They are the same unit no difference in material or warranty.

Hello. The Hayward SwimClear Cartridge Filter model W3C4030 is supplied with 2" unions that attached to the filter's bulkhead fittings. These unions will accommodate 2" pipe inside slip and 2 1/2" pipe external slip. With the use of an adapter, the 2" inside slip can be reduced to 1 1/2" pipe size. The filter inlet (from the pump) is the top fitting, filter discharge (to the pool) is the bottom fitting. Attached please find information specific to the SwimClear W3C4030. I have a Hayward DE3620 filter. Will this cartridge filter system work for me?
Hello Ray. Comparing Hydraulics, the Hayward DE3620 has a Public Design Flow Rate of 72GPM with an 8 hour Turnover of 34,560 gallons. The Hayward SwimClear W3C4030 has a Public Design Flow Rate of 150GPM with an 8 hour Turnover Rate of 72,000 gallons. The Hayward DE3620 is "typically" installed on pools with a volume of 10-15,000 gallons. The Hayward W3C4030 is "typically" installed on pools with a volume of 20-25,000 gallons of water. The additional filter size of the W3C4030 would provide longer intervals between cleaning. The W3C4030 is generally compatible with pool pump systems installed with a DE3620.
