What is the difference between Blu and the other Navigator type cleaners?

Hello Greg - The Blucon is the same cleaner as the older Navigator. The only difference is the total hose length. The Blucon comes with 32' of hose and the Navigator came with 40'.

My pool has the pop up heads for cleaning...they are not getting my pool clean, some pop up heads are not working. Can I use the Hayward in place of what I have now. Will it connect to the skimmer?
Reply
Yes you could use the Hayward Blue Cleaner in place of the in floor pop up heads and yes the cleaner just plugs into the skimmer. If you had the pop up heads in the up position when you ran the cleaner then the cleaner would get stuck on the pop up heads, so you would not want to run both systems at the same time.

The Hayward Blu Cleaner works on all pool surfaces including gunite, concrete, vinyl and fiberglass. If your cleaner has difficulty climbing on vinyl or fiberglass surfaces, you can purchase the Cork Pod Shoes separately. This cleaner comes with 32ft of hose so make sure that your pool dimensions will work for this cleaner. I verified that there are no current rebates for the Hayward Blu pool cleaner on Hayward's website at this time.

Way is my hose constantly getting tangled ?
Reply
This pool cleaner has a gearing system that is designed to spin the hose in one direction and then in the opposite direction. If this Gear Box Assembly has failed, then that could be the cause of your hose tangling. You can always view our How To Repair a Hayward Navigator or Pool Vac Ultra Pool Cleaner on our website to assist you if you like.

Does the Hayward Blue cleans the walls and steps in my in ground pool. If so how good. Does it clean up any Algae build up?
Reply
The Hayward Blu pool cleaner will climb the walls in your plaster finish pool. There is not a pool cleaner that will do stairs very well due to the sharp angles, so they will still need to be brushed from time to time. Algae build-up is a sign of a chemical imbalance in your pool. You would want to address that with an algae treatment. Pool cleaners and vacuums should only be utilized for the clean-up and removal of debris in your pool. The Hayward Blu is a solid and reliable cleaner.

Hi, I recently purchased a home with a 17X30 inground pool. It had a Polaris 360 which has it's own power switch and- apparently- pump, but the unit is nowhere to be found. Will this or another product you carry be suitable to repalce the missing unit? Thank you.
Reply
Hello Dan- The Hayward Blu In-ground Suction Swimming Pool Cleaner, w/Hoses is a suction side cleaner, it will not work with the auxiliary pump that you have. Suction cleaners have to be controlled by the main pump. Your Polaris is a pressure side cleaner, so it uses that pump to push and move it throughout the pool. Here is an article that might help clarify this for you: http://www.inyopools.com/blog/do-i-have-a-suction-or-a-pressure-side-cleaner/

How is the problem with tangled hoses addressed with this model?
Reply
Stretch the hose out on the deck in a straight line and let the sun bake it for an hour or so to get the memory out. Then you can rearrange the hose lengths. This should fix your tangling problem.

Hi, Adam. This cleaner is not equipped for a vinyl pool application but can be converted by changing the concrete shoes to the Cork Shoes - AXV413P. Wrinkles will affect the cleaner performance and maneuverability.
Reply
Can I use this cleaner with a high/ low speed pump? It is 1 and 0.09 hp.
Reply
You can use a dual speed pump on your pool but the low-speed likely will not generate enough suction to run the cleaner.
Reply
Does it clean the walls of the pool
Reply
This cleaner may be able to clean the walls of the pool but that will based on the setting of the cleaner, finish of the pool and the suction of the pool pump. In the end it is always advised to manually brush the swimming pool once a week as to not necessarily depend entirely on the cleaner to get all areas of the pool.

Hi, i have a 30,000 gallon pool and i am looking for an automatic cleaner. Does this vaccum clean on its own? Would it be sufficient for my size pool?
Reply
Hi, Shanell. The Hayward Blu Cleaner requires a suction port. You can use your pool skimmer if you do not have a dedicated vacuum port. This unit comes with 32 feet of hose which may not be enough depending on where your suction port is located. Installation requirements are located in the Hayward Blu Owner's Manual.

I have an older Hayward vac (looks like the blu) that has had quite a few parts replaced (spindle kit, bumper, flaps, wings, hoses and gear) but still gets stuck in a vertical position on different sides the pool walls. It obviously has a good suction since it does climb up some walls (and sometimes breach the water sucking in air before falling off). It appears to have diminished turn radius. Before this, it used to turn as it climbs up a wall. What do you recommend to do next? Thanks
Reply
Hi. I would recommend that you check the Gear Box. Also, reduce the suction to the cleaner, that will prevent it from climbing out of the pool.

The skimmer Takes care of surface debris, I just need something that can get the dead algae on the bottom.

tell me what sort of hookup is required to run the haywood pool cleaner
Reply
The hose from the Hayward cleaner simply goes into the port at the bottom of your skimmer and whenever your pool pump turns on then the cleaner goes around the bottom of the pool sucking up debris. Also, some pools have a dedicated suction port and for those pools, the hose just gets inserted into that port. Pretty simple!
Reply
does my suction hose for my pool cleaner fit right into the hayword ? my suction hose attached to bottom of skimmer?
Reply
Hi Tommy, This cleaner does come with it's own hoses so I would suggest using the hoses that come with the cleaner, however most cleaner hoses are universal meaning your current hoses should work with the hoses that are included with the BluCon if you ever needed to use those as replacements.
Reply
I currently use a Polaris pool cleaner on my vinyl lined pool. Is the blu con a good replacement for the Polaris?
Reply
Do you know if your current Polaris works off of suction or does it have a bag on top and the debris is collected in the bag? Most Polaris cleaners are pressure cleaners where the debris is collected in the bag on the top of the cleaner and the cleaner is powered by a separate booster pump. If you went with the BluCon you would simply plug the hose into your skimmer and you would no longer use the Polaris Booster pump. The BluCon would be powered by your main filter pump and suck up the debris to be collected back in your filter.

Shafik, the Hayward Pool Products Hayward Blu In-ground Suction Swimming Pool Cleaner, w/Hoses is a suction-based cleaner which relies on the suction produced from your pool pump. Usually, there is a direct suction line in your pool to the pump that you would connect this cleaner to. So, this product could work for your application, but only if you have the ability to provide suction to the cleaner.

This is standing over the deep end. The suction port/skimmer is on this side on the bottom left of the picture in the deep end which is about 6.5 feet deep. I know it would need a longer hose and I actually have that. It’s about 27’ x 22’ on the outside of the L shape and about 12 feet wide throughout. Make sense ?

What type of pool vacuum should I use after I put Floc in my pool? From what I've read, I should NOT use my pool's filtration system but should use something that will bypass my filter system.
Reply
Noel, you can use something like the Pool Blaster Max CG - POOLBLASTERMAXCG which is a self-contained battery operated unit. Everything that you vacuum with this unit will be collected in a bag inside the unit. Floc should never come in contact with your filter media as the clumping agent can cause havoc. Floc is only suggested for use with filters with bypass options, i.e. sand and DE filters with multiport or slide valves. It is not suggested to use floc with a cartridge system unless you have plumbed a bypass for the filter.

Hi, Mary Ann. The difference is the texture of the surfaces. A tiled surface is much smoother than a gunite surface. You will need to purchase the Pod Shoes, Ceramic (4 Pack) - AXV014CP in order to allow this cleaner work with your pool's surface.

I purchased the Hayward Blue from you about 3 years ago. It no longer moves around in the pool but stays pretty stationary though it does climb up the side of the pool. What could be causing this? I have the flow correct. Could the shoes be worn? They look ok to me. Thanks.
Reply
Hello David. Attached please find an exploded parts diagram for the Hayward Blue Cleaner. Hayward For troubleshooting purposes, remove the cover assembly, part 29, by loosening the retaining screw. It is captured and will not remove completely. Manually spin the turbine and inspect the movement of the Pods. Remove the 4 screws that secure the Bottom Assy. and separate. Inspect the A-Frame, part 33, bearings for function. Replace any bearings that do not move freely. Inspect the Pod Shoes for wear. If these have never been replaced, they are probably worn thin and causing the failure you describe.

Hi Henry - it depends. The 10 hoses that the W3BLUCON Cleaner comes with total 32' in length. If your suction port for the cleaner is towards the middle of your 32' long pool you should not need anything else. If the suction port is towards the end of your pool you can get some of this Generic 4' Automatic Pool Vac Hose which is longer and a bit less expensive than the original 3' long BLUHOSE.
