I've been told that my pool water is high in phosphates. I have used a phosphate remover to lower the levels but they were high again shortly thereafter. Am I doing something wrong?
Reply
There are several reasons why the phosphates can increase. Certain pool chemicals contain phosphates. Fertilizers and pollen can add phosphates into your pool too. You may need to drop down the phosphates as low as you can and use a phosphate remover on a weekly basis for maintenance.

Will using Phosfree raise my filter pressure?
Reply
Phosfree raises the filter pressure because it puts a coating on the filter media (sand, d.e., or cartridge) so it is able to catch the phosphates. After an 8-10 psi increase in the filter pressure, the filter should be cleaned or backwashed.

My phosphates kept measuring very high, above 1000 on multiple tests. I decide to tackle it with the Phosfree Extra Strength. Per the instructions on the bottle, I did the following steps.
1. Vacuumed the entire pool to make sure to get all dirty I could out of pool.
2. I thoroughly cleaned the filters.
3. I poured in the phosfree and ran the filters for 48 hours continuous.
4. I vacuumed the pool again.
5. I cleaned the filters again.
My next test showed that my phosphates had decreased to less than 100!

(4 out of 5 stars) High concentration Phos Free

Pros: High strength Phos Free
Cons: Package does not include the Phosphate test tablets
My pool water had greater than 1000+ ppb of phosphates, giving dark blue color on the tests for phosphates. With such high level of phosphates, I was constantly battling with stubborn yellow algae. I had to get a couple of these 3L commercial strength Phosphate remover products.. and they have now considerably reduced the phosphates in my pool, and my algae issue is under control. I will keep monitoring phosphates ( I wish they had included the test tablets along with these bottles), and will consider ordering more of the same strength again.

I bought the commercial version of PhosFree since my pool was at 2500. It lowered my numbers dramatically and saved me lots of money. Works great.

(5 out of 5 stars) Best Swiiming Pool Product on the Market

Pros: It's simply the very best product ever!!
Cons: There are none!!
After using Phosfree in my pool to get rid of phosphates, I have eliminated the need for much else. I now add 4 oz. of Phosfree in the summer months every week. During the winter, I use 4 oz. every other week. You literally just measure it and pour it around the edges of the pool. I use chlorine tabs, baking soda (as needed) and muratic acid (as needed). It's simple, phosphates feed algae, chlorine kills algae and getting rid of the phosphates eliminates the food to feed the algae. I haven't needed any algae product in my pool since 2009. I don't brush the pool anymore, just let the Polaris do all that work. It's the best product on the market. One 3 liter bottle lasts all year. Inyo Pools not only has great prices, but nice, knowledgeable people working for them, and great delivery.
