Hi, R Bruce. The A&A QuickStop Assembly is designed to be plumbed directly above the Top-Feed Upper Housing enabling the ability to pause the gear system mid-cycle.

  Since I don't seem to have one of those now, I'm assuming it's necessary for standard operation of the system, correct?

    R Bruce, The system will still operate without the QuickStop, you will not be able to pause the gear system mid-cycle. You will just have to stop the pump.
