Which side goes where when I replace this 201 shaft seal?

When replacing this 201 shaft seal as well as others you need to put the spring side on or against the impeller with the dark ceramic side out and then the other half of the seal inside the pump seal plate with the white ceramic side facing out. Please be advised not to touch, wet, or dirty any of the ceramic parts for it very well may compromise the seal.

I bought this along with a motor. I have setup watching your diff videos. It is a JWPA Sta-Rite pump. After hooking everything up and turning it on, there is water coming from the backside of the impeller so the seal is failing. I did have a VERY hard time getting the seal onto the impeller and I'm not sure the spring is actually able to move properly. Should I lubricate the impeller to help slide on the seal, and if so, with what (not the seal itself, but the impeller to help slide on).

Brian, Lubricating the shaft/inside of the impeller with a silicone lubricant where the shaft seal goes will make it easier to install the seal. You may need to install a new shaft seal since its leaking.

I never replce a pool pump motor. This was very easy to replace the seal. 4 screws pump comes out. Allen wrench a 22mm to losen the bolt on the shaft. Use a screwdriver to take the seal out press the new one in. Put it back. Done. 30 min job at most.
