Broken handle

When replacing the pump O-rings on my challenger pump I had to tighten the clamp so much that the plastic portion of the handle broke. It was likely brittle from years in the sun and weather.

I had to chisel off the plastic portion of the handle to reveal the brass portion underneath. Since the plastic was broken I could not loosen the handle. The plastic just turned around the brass threaded part.

Once the plastic portion was removed I was able to use vice grips to hold the brass threaded portion of the old handle and remove it.

I replaced the Oval shaped o-ring With a square shaped one and then used the new handle to tighten the metal ring around the challenger pump sections. With the new square type o-ring only hand tight was required with the new handle to seal the pump.
